I couldn't find a thread or blog about this so here we go!

You can currently sign up for the beta and the game is slated to be released sometime this year. I would imagine sometime before Blizzard release's their next expansion in hopes to lure some of the player-base away but Square Enix has been very tight lipped about a release date.
I never did play Final Fantasy 11: Online but I heard a lot of good things about it and wish I had given it a shot. Only reason why I don't give it a go now is because of the impending release of 14.
So any other folks from TL out there thinking about giving it a shot? Post here and when things start heating up for a Beta I'll update this OP and try to get in contact with you all.

reallllly realllyl realllllllllly regret playing WoW and not FFXI
ug...
anyways, for sure contact me

I loved FFXI, but I don't think I want to get hooked on its successor too. Still, SE knows how to make a beautiful and immersive game.
|
From what I've heard about it so far (not much) the combat is incredibly boring, even by MMO standards.
|
Help! I have made a Square Enix ID, but whenever i try to do the beta signup and log in, it just says 'The region is different'. I'm picking the right region (PAL - UK) ahhhhh, anyone got any advice?

Haha, after FF13's release they started alpha testing of the game, so it should be soon for the beta (if the beta hasn't started already!). They want to copy Blizzard's footsteps of making their game easier and accessible i heard.

From an ex-FFXI player, its STILL very tempting to go back.
even after quitting for just about 7 months, but 6 years of gameplay on it... gawd. idk anything about this new online FF, sides that it looks better and has similar controls, from last years E3 vids.
skill was based on timing abilities, chaining them to your job's strength and adding that up with a subjob.
Here no subjob, more twitch play rather than timing and auto attack. idk but if i can mutliple job on one character i should be fine should they add all the old jobs back again with similar mechanics.
I am intrested in testing it tho, never hurts to try it out and see if i can help with reporting bugs.

I'm definitely interested in FFXIV. I played FFXI for about 6 months and liked it so I'm sure I'll get some enjoyment out of the sequel too. From what I've read, jobs are now linked to weapons so you can equip a sword and be a warrior and then switch to a staff and instantly become a mage. It sounds like a cool evolution of the job/subjob system that worked well in FFXI.

I played FF11 and it was super, super horrible(atleast from my experience).
I didn't even understand where to go, i couldn't even manage to equip items and i kept dying (and leveling was slow aswell). Then when i was gonna quit i deleted my account WITHOUT canceling my subscription, took like a couple of months to get it fixed -___-'

@KinosJourney2
Yah i have to admit the game was very punishing, and even i had trouble learning my way around. the thing was you had to have advice from older players or do it the hard way and learn for yourself (i did mostly the latter until i got my first Linkpearl).
leveling got easier, abeit they dint change the exp system often (year and a half they reduced lvl 30-75 exp requirements, 4 years later they add level sync).
Although i am very proud of my Chara and I loved the community, that's what mostly kept me going for the entierty of my career was my friends and LS mates.(thanks BlueGartrsLS)

FFXI killed wow for me. Its so much better in EVERY aspect. Leveling, jobs, battles, party play. The game as a whole was amazing. I will be playing FF14 the day of release. Promise . (Level 60 Dark Knight before I stopped playing)

urgh do they really expect me to give me my personal details just to get into a beta? -_-
just made up some stuff and googled some addresses, hopefully i'll still be able to get in.

the FF11 combat system was one of the worst/most boring MMO combat systems I have ever played.
From what I have heard and played of the FF11 MMO, it was horrible and a heaping pile of trash.

So far all i can say is it's beautiful hope the rest will follow.

I was going to make a thread on this but didn't feel like i could make a thread of substance T_T http://www.ffxivcore.com/ <-- i think this is the best fan site out there IMO
I signed up for beta about a month ago @.@~ if you pre-ordered final fantasy XIII and got the first edition, you got a code you can use to guarantee a console beta (I signed up for PC beta using this beta code that is meant for console beta signups tt hopefully they dont notice and give me either one, preferably PC o.o)
i really really hope they dont release the japanese version a year before NA version again it really let for the japanese players to essentially dominate the economy by all being maxed out on all the crafts T_T!
