MMOs can't go to release half finished if the hype machine is already in full swing. People try it early, dismiss it, and the game suffocates under the weight of its reputation. I'll bet this turns into a good game somewhere down the road. Whether or not there's anyone left playing once it does is what I wonder. And how many more could have been playing it had they avoided the whole debacle?

The constant whining in that review was annoying. It's FF ffs, things evade you and you can't hurdle over everything you see. You actually have to run places and sometimes you have to think a little bit - or use spoilers. It may be 2010, that doesn't mean everything should be spoon fed to you with glowing dots on the map, portals everywhere, and over the top instructions on how to complete every simple task. To be honest I kind of like an MMO that plays a little slower. I'd rather spend 10 minutes taking in some beautiful scenery and 20 minutes doing the meat of the quest, maybe including the time where I get hung up for a bit or die once or twice, instead of getting portaled straight to my objective, mindlessly smashing mobs for 30 minutes until I get my drops and then portaling back. This review also reinforced my notion that it still needs a lot of work before I'll dare think about giving it a try. The spelling errors and repeating terrain aren't game breakers, but I have a hunch the rough edges don't end there. It also seems to have inherited all the clunky, unintuitive characteristics from its predecessor XI, which is probably something that if its not fixed by now isn't ever going to be.

http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/10/01/final-fantasy-xiv-launch-week-impressions.aspx That's a moderately objective view of the current state. Also, this thread has kinda died because a new one created for release as Psyonic wasn't going to be updating this one. The other TL FF14 thread is here: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=154929 The scariest part of this game for me so far has been reading the forums at FFXIVCore, a fansite. The mindset of the majority of the people there kinda scares me. They're all kinda "we're being passive aggressive because we think we're better than all of you, how dare you insult the holy grail that SE has delivered unto us mortals." It's the strangest playerbase I've come across and I hope it's just an anomaly and not how most of the more serious playerbase acts. Typical thread goes like this. Normal dude: "I've been trying to give this game a shot, but problem X and Y are putting me off." Fan 1: "I'm sorry to hear that, but I'm loving the game. If you don't like it just don't play! Good luck with your next mmo!" Fan 2: "I'm sorry that you are unable to play a game that requires skill. Go back to WoW." *headdesk*

People here give their input about Final Fantasy XIV. I was accepted into beta and did not enjoy the game at all. Yes other mmo games suck too but this topic is about Final Fantasy XIV. So I'm voicing my opinion in this thread that Final Fantasy XIV sucked. I have a very good computer that can run Crysis. But for some reason when it runs Final Fantasy XIV it lags. The interface of Final Fantasy XIV is also very uncomfortable for me. Thank you for listening to my input about why I did not enjoy Final Fantasy XIV.

I know people get torn up because a game is called FF and that this particular title is nothing like WoW -- so those aspects are working against it. But is it really a mess of a game?

Understandably WoW absolutely hate FF14 since they get everything hand fed to them. I've seen so many cocky players in PvP after the patch made wrathful gear the new welfare items. Psh, earn your crap before the patch before talkin trash....

New changes announced and a plan to roll them out over the next two years. Kinda sad it took this much whinging from the playerbase to get the ball rolling. I was in the beta, and personally panned the terrible mouse and keyboard control and camera response. Looks like that and many other improvements (including adding the full compliment of genders to every race... finally) are on its way... Eventually. Was originally going to be in Disdain from the old FFXIVCore boards, but that fell through before the game's release, and I think that guild ended up becoming a HoN clan anyways.

Of course, those fans probably played FFXI and are lifelong community members anyways, it most likely IS too late for the general MMO populace to see the light about this unless the PS3 version takes off and renews interest in the game. ...And the above all assumes the game actually gets good once it finishes puberty.
