I believe the "one time password" is more like Blizzard's authenticators. An extra level of security, but only if you choose to add it. So far I've not had to mess with the one time password section, so if you didn't set one up then don't worry about it. I know FFXI had some type of authenticator so it's possible that if one was attached to a SE account for that game it counts here. I'm really not sure on the details as I didn't play XI.
The quote right under "One time password" says '*If you are using a security token, please also enter your One-Time Password. ' No security token = leave it blank.
Also, the updater seems to actually work now and I've gotten the last two updates rather quickly as opposed to it stalling forever and me having to torrent it.
The game also keeps your abilities on your bar when you change class if it can, now (they added this a week ago or less), instead of removing everything by default. By this I mean if you're a Conjurer and have Fire set as an ability, and then change to Thaumaturge or Gladiator, Fire will still be set as long as you have the AP in your new class to keep it equipped (starting with slot 2 and going right). Not the same as remembering each class's ability set up, but it's a step in the right direction and seeing changes like that give me hope that they'll keep improving the system.

Uh, this wasn't the case just yesterday for me. Am I missing something?

Just logged in as a Conjurer. Changed class to Thaumaturge. Fire, Blizzard, and Shock Spikes (ability slot 2, 3, and 4) stayed on my bar. The rest were removed as that put me at 9/10 used AP. Tranquility/Exaltation would be removed because they require their specific class, as opposed to something like Cure requiring "Disciplines of War or Magic."
I then went and bought a sword and changed to Gladiator. Fire and Blizzard remained on my action bar. Shock Spikes removed due to lack of AP. I was able to equip Light Stab, but the description states that it requires "Sword" so it would be removed if I changed class again.
So essentially it depends on whether the ability is class specific or allowed to be equipped by other classes. Any of them should be removed if switching to a gathering or crafting class, as they're outside the Disciplines of War/Magic.

They should change more important things than this, theres much more glaring issues. I already have this covered in one macro that changes class, gear and equips each ability I want, in the slot I want. Way to fix nothing that matters SE

I've been playing the beta for about 12-13 days. Open beta only. But the guild/Linkshell i am in has some people from Beta1 or Alpha and they say the current beta model is Leaps and bounds ahead of what it used to be.
I'm looking forward to this game so much, Interface will probably look much better in Retail. this is only a beta estimated between 20% of the content.
Macro's played a huge part in FFXI and i can imagine the same will apply in FFXIV or they wouldn't have a Macro system.

I'm actually enjoying this game quite a bit. I feel sorry for you people who complain and can't find enjoyment in exploring places and figuring out stuff yourselves. It's too bad. There's so many awful MMORPGs out there, nothing surprises me anymore. Final Fantasy XIV made me feel like I was playing my very first MMORPG, that innocent feeling of enjoyment that you get when you first start playing the genre for the first time. You don't what is what, or where is where, but you just enjoy looking around and finding stuff for yourself.
I'm not surprised that many people hate Final Fantasy XIV, typical gamers nowadays really.

man , the crafting system really give me a huge headacke and I QUIT! I QUIT!!! I mean it doesn't show what you need in game ,you actually have to search it online. and what worse is it takes almost 4 or 5 crafting classes to make something and the fail rate is so high....

How does the macro system in this game work? Similar to WoW?
|
If it's anything like FFXI, it's nothing like WoW

Tried to complete the registration, got as far as the beta site but when i login it just takes me back to the beta site saying i need a beta acc despite doing all the service acc stuf already etc.
Meh tried to follow the instructions on the email but it failed
Tbh im looking for another mmo just to timesink and distract myself a bit because i need it but looks like its failing atm lol

This game is utter garbage. I was looking forward to the next square enix MMO, but this is just horrid. It just plays like garbage, is poorly optimized for the PC, and just has terrible design. I would recommend anyone who is having trouble downloading/playing/registering, not to fret, you arent missing out at all.

The developers heard a ton of the complaints and are already fixing them for release. They had a pre-release designer panel this morning broadcast live followed by a report. I translated most of that report and it was published on http://www.ffxivcore.com/ if you guys watch to check it out.
Biggest stuff:
UI Improvements across the board Hardware mouse Guildleve cooldown reduced Anima regen increased Response time in battle improved
|
And here, I saw a translated copy of their press release.
UI Improvements - Yes, eventually. Hardware Mouse - Yes... eventually Guildleve Cooldown - No. Deal With it Anima Regen - Sure, whatever Response Time - Maybe.
The game simply isn't very amusing to me. Crafting takes an inordinate amount of time, for very little tangible benefit. Combat's amusing enough I guess, but still far slower pace than any WoW veteran will be used too. Game is simply poorly responsive, and the questing system is horrible.
Expect to grind, ALOT. Expect to wander into places and have no clue how tough stuff is relative to you, and get oneshotted by mobs. Expect to try and find the things you want to buy, by going through people's trade-bots, one at a time.... endlessly, with much lag. I mean, I guess it's better than them trying to hawk their wares directly, but it's still slow, and annoying, and hardly productive. Game needs itself a centeralized AH system (even if it's localized ingame), fast.

You must not have read my translation or any correct one. All of those things are coming for the release, not eventually, but in just over a week when the CE version starts. Completely wrong on the guildleve cooldown thing, they said they had intended people to party up to do more leves while theirs cooled down but overall the time was just too long so they're shortening it. Increasing anima regen is a direct result of that since you'll be traveling around more doing more leves. In fact hardware mouse is already in the game now, you just can't enable it without hacking a bit. Some people discovered it already before the announcement.
The rest of your post is pretty much correct though besides all the assumptions that lag in beta will be the same in release. Overall though, yeah this is a slower paced game designed to be enjoyed as you go, not when you get to the end like so many others.
They said specifically they do not want a centralized AH because they want crafters to play the role of salesman and traders as well, instead of just dumping things onto AH, but still they recognize that the current implementation is inadequate.
|
Not having an AH is not purely a negative. There are things made simpler by the existence of an auction house, but many things are also lost. It's simply forcing the economy to function in a different manner than what many people are used to - that being to play by yourself, dump your crap on the AH undercutting everyone since you can see what everybody is selling it for at that moment, and then wait for it to sell and money to show up in your mailbox. I'm actually looking forward to seeing how things will play out without an AH. It'll be a nice change of pace.
Anybody that's paid attention to WoW knows how much of a farce the AH is now. Usually has a few people on each server that have it on lockdown. They have the money to buyout anybody trying to go against them (or enough to wait them out) and then go back to setting prices as they see fit (good example would be the glyph market during the current expansion). A number of people have hit the gold limit running the AH. Of course some pretty crazy addons in WoW made it even easier, too.
Combat not as fast as WoW (or some other mmo) is not inherently bad, by itself. Merely different.
That seems to be a common theme throughout the game - being different. There isn't one golden formula to making games and all deviations from it are wrong. The thing to look at is whether or not they've implemented "different" in a good or bad way. Currently, there are of course a lot of problems, which they seem to be diligently trying to address without utterly changing the direction they want to take the game.

QQ still cant access the beta site
Anyone get the same problem or what

It may have been a different interview I saw a transcribed copy of... simply put, of the many questions asked, their answers were less than desirable, and in somecases downright rude. Though that could of been a language shift. It's possible we listened to different press conferences and they changed the tune on some issues.
I don't mind a player driven economy. Look at Eve, it's almost completely player driven and it works. BUT... you have the means and ways to actually find what your looking for, searching mechanisms that don't involve going through and finding the trade-bots one at a time, in lord knows what instance of the market row, they happen to be in.
Maybe a centralized AH is a bad thing, but localized hubs are still a good idea.
I don't comment about how good/bad combat or gameplay is going to be, as it's very much up to the people who play them. Just from my perspective, though loads faster than FF11, it's not any faster than WoW. Take from what what you will.
I do hope they fix the lag, and maybe the pc hardware support and lag reduction will make the game more responsive... one can only hope.

I gave it a try. The control, interface and overall gameplay was just awful. Can't say I would ever pay to play this.
My opinion of course
