I find it crazy how GSL is still asking for money to run its events when we have people like Wardii running his own events for free with the use of subs, donations, and sponsorships.

I mean, if you look at how well RSL is doing given its spending split, it almost seems stupid for other orgs NOT to see what they can ask for and 'get away' with. Only hardcore fans (ppl still active on TL in 2026) do this kind of super granular cost/utility calculation—for most people, $10/month is probably a small enough sum that they're not actively researching other options or counting total hours of content produced or whatever.

"Global Starcraft 2 League - Champions Korea" ...I think there might be a reason why we don't spell out these abbreviations anymore...

It’s also worth noting the first couple of events were pretty dope. Had a Proleague vibe.

I mean it's a lot better that GSL is doing this, and I honestly hope they get a huge portion of the funds going to RSL.

How come?
Been enjoying RSL

Their prize pool is not commensurate with the amount raised through their Patreon. Production / Team is pocketing way more than the players.
The tournament relies on the players and the audience tuning in to watch their games. RSL was always clearly a moneygrab by Tasteless and team under the guise of "Reviving Starcraft 2".
They've been getting over $10k a month for the last year or so, and have had 5 or so tournaments paying less than $40,000 all in all. That's over 5 different tournaments, including the offline year end tournament.
They have raised over $100k in patreon support funds and have paid out less than 40% of that. If that isn't a moneygrab, i'm not sure what is..
I've been here since the beginning, we've seen many grifters come and go in this space. Thought that its time had come, but apparently not yet.
That's why I said I hope GSL crowdfunding takes a huge portion of funds going to RSL, because that might be the only thing that can finally end that grift, and will actually be able to support the ecosystem and the players, who are the most important part of the game's continued growth.

Its not like GSL hasnt been taking in alot of money during a long downtime.
But other than that I agree RSL have a "problem" with their split, but its not hidden and noone is beeing tricked about it. Seemingly people are ok with it and wants to support it.
