And to be honest, I for one am glad that it is in. Everyone has seen the guy who gets a new MMO the instant it comes out and automatically grinds to the highest level for no other purpose than to say he did it first. What's the point in developing a game for that kind of experience. Everyone who played FFXI for any substantial period of time knows that although there was never any defined cap for levelling in a period of time, there was most definitly a cap for solo play (roughly level 10-15) and after that, your levelling is capped by your reliance for 5 others players to stick out a six hour session trying to get the next persons level. True, there was no cap to how fast you got there but it took years (and I do mean years) for anyone to get to the highest levels. Maybe the reason for this hindrance isnt because SE want to screw the fast levellers in the ass but because frankly, there isnt much endgame content at this time and want to slow the whole process down. It's very easy to /rage about this, but just think about it for one second as to why SE might be doing this.... And for those of you worried that the game will always be a bit poor on the end game content, if theres one thing I learned from FFXI, it's that SE does endgame content very VERY well. Upon release, try and think of all the endgame activities there were..... none as far as I can tell. Dynamis, Limbus, Abyssea, Sky, Sea, HNM's, Einherjar, Salvage, Assault, Post-Promathia Missions, BCNM, ENM, KSNM, ISNM and lets not forget everyones favourite, Meriting. Do Not Worry.

True, there was no cap to how fast you got there but it took years (and I do mean years) for anyone to get to the highest levels. This only really applied at the beginning of the US version. There was a huge wall between the 2 communities, on one hand you had the new players (US or EU with imported US copies) and the old players (JP or US/EU with imported JP copies). Being a EU player with an imported US copy my playtime more often then not fell in the Night/Morning bracket for US players or the Evening/Night bracket for JP players. Considering the JP especially back then looked down upon anyone not able to speak/understand JP and would basically try and avoid inviting you into their parties, it was considerably harder to make a group then it would be today (localized copies, PC/PS2/PS3/XBOX360 players). On top of that you now have a lot more options with FoV (Fields of Valor). Also, the methods for leveling have grown over the years. You used to be good if you managed to get 5-6k exp/h, now 15k is pretty much standard and for merits (something you get when you are max level) its not uncommon to see 28k exp/h or higher. I pretty much quit last year when Astral Burn parties were very popular where a group of people would have a (couple) max level RDM pull and hold an entire zone (over 100 mobs) while a group of 4-5 SMNs with a COR for exp roll would Astral Flow (2hour ability) the unclaimed mobs for crazy exp. I never really got into that so I don't know the numbers, all I know is that some people managed to level from ~15 to 75 in a matter of days. From what I've been reading on BG recently the Abyssea expansion is the new standard for high level exp/merit parties where you can get a lot of exp fast aswell, although I don't know any numbers for that either since I stopped playing. When I started my first Job (Thief) took me roughly a year and my last job (Corsair) took me a little over a month. My Thief was level through PuGs till around 40 and after a short break from the game (fed up with not getting parties) I got invited to the static group a close friend of mine was in which took me to 75. Mind you, even in that static group it took half a year to go from 40-75. My Corsair was leveled entirely through PuGs and even still went a LOT faster (due to Colibri mostly). When the game was released in the US (first expansion, Rise of the Zilart) the slowly started to up the level cap from 50 to 75 and introduced Dynamis, Sky, higher level BCNM and KSNM and the big 3 (Behemoth/King Behemoth, Fafnir/Nidhogg, Adamantoise/Aspidochelone). Before that you had Mission up to Rank 5 (they expanded to Rank 10 in RotZ) and Serket,Simurgh,Roc as the HNMs (not entirely sure when King Arthro was introduced). So you had a whole 2 things to do after you got max level when they released FFXI, one of which was repeatable (HNMs).

"We would like to take this opportunity to provide an update regarding the FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test, which was announced to be postponed on Aug. 31, 2010. A critical issue where the client software for the open beta test would not respond on certain rare occasions has been addressed. As of now, we are in the final stages of preparation for the start of the FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test. A new schedule will be released at a later date. Until then, we ask for your patience in this matter." Via their twitter. It seems like it should be ready to within a few days :x

... Just keep it on and it will inch itself forward slowly but surelyedit: Also remember to update your client, theres a new small patch. Tried to log in (just to see what the message is) and it said that my account doesnt have a valid FFXIV account. Interesting.... Unsure how the system works but i'd think it would say that the servers arent up before checking accounts. Ah well...speculations speculations ![]()
