Lol just left it over night to DL and woke up and it had finished, i log in and then in trying to load up the game it throws an error at me. I try to open up the game again and the updater rears its ugly head and its only 36% done. Srsly?

I've been looking forward to the next FFXI for a long time, so I'm really pumped about 14. I played daoc, ffxi, wow, and now eve, with a few short lived ones in between and I must say while WoW really nailed gameplay, FFXI was by far the most imaginative world that I actually enjoyed just walking around... Large cities, expansive landscapes, areas that you feel you won't be able to visit for many months... These are the things I like about MMOs.

Plus, I speak Japanese so that's a big factor, it gives a way to practice and share stories in that language.

I have high hopes for the game, and if you guys all choose one server I'll try my best to start my adventure there. I'm planning to duo with my wife. I know I'm still relatively new around TL (found it after getting pumped about SC2) but I think this is a great community.

the beta is pretty fucking awful, down-times everywhere. i've only been able to create my character, walk around some dodgy boat and then have my client crash and not being able to get back in again.

Possibly the worst beta of all time.

- Very limited testing shedual
- When it's up, you can't connect or they have technical issues.
- If you somehow manage to connect, enjoy 10 minutes in character creation then get booted right off.

Now, I have not played in the alpha, but there is no way they could have launched the game from alpha into the beta phase with so many issues. Take it down, work another 1-2 months on getting the game actually testable, then reopen the servers with actual playtime deserving in an mmo (1+ week).

Yea this is like the worst beta experience i've had ever, it's up a meaningless amount of time in the week, and cant even get it to play when it is. Won't be purchasing based on my experience thusfar.

This is why I've stopped updating. I was super excited but my experience with the beta has been TERRIBLE.
