No Taiwan has an equal different past than China and the last 60 years of autonomous rule of China have made it become clearly different than China's mainland. If Taiwan wants to belong to China, then China should reach out an open hand for Taiwan to accept on their own willingness. Forcing Chinese pride on Taiwan is no good for anyone, and that is clearly what is the case here. You cannot have Taiwan unless you use force. This clearly means they don't want to be ruled by the Beijing government or want much to do with them. Now stop claiming territory.

I have Taiwanese friends who get really upset if you call them Chinese and ones who don't really care. I agree, it's mainly a pride thing.
