Nintendo, Sony and XBox currently in a nuclear arms race to see who can fuck over their customer/consumer the most and the quickest. Even Blizzard charged 90$ for the 3-day early access Diablo 4 Deluxe Edition on launch...

Maybe it's just the trailer, but definitely felt different than my expectations based on previous GTAs.

I loved Vice City and San Andreas. They had that cartoony element you describe. Not just in the characters but also in the missions. San Andreas especially had such a wild and crazy list of missions. Then from 4 onward everything got more serious and the missions got more dull. “Go to X, get in a shootout”. And ofc heists in 5. Definitely looking like 6 continues that trend, despite being back in vice city. Oh well. And lol at the poster thinking it’ll be 70 dollars.

There's a pretty strong tradition of portraying criminals are varying mixture of cartoony, deranged, lost, miserable, unpleasant and silly. Meanwhile over here the main couple seems to have things going quite nicely. Maybe it's just the trailer, but definitely felt different than my expectations based on previous GTAs. I also agree. Maybe as the game-making becomes more realistic they feel pressured to make the other elements more realistic too? It doesn't make me want to play it more.

In some ways it's realism, but I think for example many series and movies still find ways to make it feel different. Even something super slick like the Heat movie has still criminals who are in many ways pretty unsettled in their lives. Then you've got Sopranos, Scarface and even Breaking Bad where it's pretty clear how unpleasant and destructive the lifestyle is. Meanwhile this trailer feels more like a Michael Bay movie in some ways.

Imho Rockstar would be so much better if they hired decent writers. I had kinda similar issues with RDR2 but there it was more because I just couldn't give a single shit about what happened to "my" band of merry murderers that you are somehow expected to like, even identify with?

If there are like endless hours of content and gametime and my friends are picking it up (which I guess they will) I don't even care about 100$ price tag EDIT: Not yet sure about the good guys / bad guys thing. Could be "some" moral compass in the game. Too early too tell. Okay just rewatched the trailer and was thinking how awesome would it be if our couple were actually (undercover) cops. That could be an awesome story and not just random mass murder and stuff. Not really a story for a GTA universe but that could be an awesome game
