your defense is the reason youre so shit. so you flip the best one for a goalie who is an average at best at his position with a decent defense

Ha ha ha. Yeah, Steve I'm very sad. The Oiler circus is as bad as the Leafs one. >_<

I feel awful and so cynical, but I am honestly kind of enjoying the oilers suckitude.

Pretty much a white flag trade signalling to the team we have given up all hopes for the season.

They had no confidence before and the GM went out and made a trade where we lost hard AND we got no value for the NHL team. Anton Belov, if anyone, has made Smid redundant. Don't get me wrong, I was/am a big Smid fan. I mean, he's not a great defender or anything (he's about average) but he's a very likeable player and I enjoyed getting to cheer for him. Still, of all of the guys currently in the top 6 not named Nick Shultz, he made the most sense to trade. The Oilers lack top-end defensive talent (and good defensive play in general), but they're actually quite deep at the position right now when talking to guys around Smid's skill level. edit: And lol @ Bryz in Edmonton. "so cold". edit 2: Regarding Edmonton's defense, I'd say Smid was in the middle of the pack. Petry, in my opinion, has probably emerged as their best overall defensemen, Belov has been outstanding and is only getting better, Ference is middle-tier, Nick Shultz is ugh, Justin Shultz is chaos on skates who can't yet play defense. Beyond that, Fedun has been quite a treat, Nurse has been better than advertised, Klefbom still has promise (if he can stay healthy), and Marincin might surpass all other prospects not named Darnell Nurse while getting no attention. Point being, there aren't a lot of 1st pairing guys in that list, but a heck of a lot of 2nd, 3rd pairing people. And, that's what Smid is. On any team not the Oilers, that is.
