Last night, RootCatz was shown in the game lobby spectating all matches. And someone else noted that an EG team member was spectating EGInControl's game. Why are people not directly involved with the game or broadcast allowed in the game?
I am not accusing anyone of any wrongdoing. But when there is money involved, people will be tempted to cheat. Professionals have been caught cheating in all sports, including Broodwar. With the players, spectators & NASL at different locations, there is no way to prevent a spectator from feeding a player information about the game in progress. (They could even be talking on Skype.) It's doesn't matter if you trust these people. People have cheated their close friends and family. With $400,000 on the line, it is important to avoid any appearance of impropriety.

Also related, some clarity on playoff tiebreakers would be nice. The top two from each division automatically qualify for the playoff bracket. What happens if two players have the same W/L? Say Fenix and Morrow both end of 7-2, tied for second place. Fenix has 7 points to 6 for Morrow, but Morrow beat Fenix head-to-head. Publish the tiebreaker procedure in advance to prevent claims of bias.. commentators/camera controller were using their accounts... no non NASL staff members have ever spectated a match.
So RootCatz is a NASL staff member?

It's been really annoying me that they announce that matches have been cancelled when the match is supposed to be played. I wish they would make an announcement sooner so we can know what to expect.
For example, I stayed up and watched last night only for the BoxeR v Socke match, and I was quite angry to find that the match wasn't going to happen after waiting through two other matches.

as I said... someone from our staff was using that account. It's a dummy account provided by blizzard for the NASL.
Could very well have been TB on that account in fact. Say hi!

I will not watch for a week now to make that up. Please tell me you're not serious. I stayed up until 4AM to see two of my favourite players battle, only to find out that it was a walkover. I almost smashed my keyboard and threw my monitor out of the window. If i remember correctly, during the pre-show incontrol even said things like "tonight we have Boxer VS socke, thats going to be interesting! i think alot of people are excited about that matchup". Thats fucking cheap when you know the series is going to be a walkover. You dont wait until the last damn minute till you announce such things just to make more money from adds. That's pretty serious. lol Can we get an official announcement about PainUser playing in the NASL since LG has disbanded? I think it would be nice to see some sort of policy in action -- basically the current precedent is that you only have to be a team at the beginning of the season?
You need to be on a team at the start of the season -- we're not going to kick people out of the league mid-season if they are out of a team for the duration of it, but to be in the league the following season, for example, he would need to find a new team.

When a w/o occurs we give those players THAT DAY to play the match. So for filming purposes we talk about the match during the pregame show which is filmed at the start of the day. We then give the players the entire day (virtually) to play the match. So until time runs out we talk about it possibly happening if it is possible... then we go "sorry, they couldn't do it!"
Also, we are at the mercy of said players. In a few cases we've had matches perfectly fine then an hour before or w/e someone will be like "oh sup, can't make it.. re LOLOLOL?"
ALSOOOOOOOO we have a staff and a studio... and a time crunch for each show. It isn't realistic to expect us to hop back in the studio and edit around the mishaps of a few players given our schedule. Is it perfect? Nope. But if we are to do things less than good I would rather we do it so that players have more of a chance to play than spectators know more ahead of time who is / isn't playing.
Would it really be that hard to just throw a caption on the screen during the preview saying that it's canceled? Or forget editing the video entirely and post on the NASL website saying it's been canceled. I think a website post 2 hours (or even less) before the show aired would be more than enough for most people.

that makes sense. just sucks everything can't go perfect 100% of the time all the time :D You and gretorp have really hit your stride imo I have really enjoyed the two you two casting together. Also greg and gretorp was very good :D TB as well! will you ever cast /w TB? that'd be amazing ^^

I dunno if this has been mentioned previously, but the NASL vods show a couple seconds of video and then freeze, while the audio goes on... they all do this, even if I fast forwards in the replay it will only show a couple seconds video then freeze. I know this might be a Justin.tv problem, but I've only experienced this issue with the NASL vods (vods from player streams play fine, for example)
I bought an HD pass with the main purpose being the VODs (canadian internet is shit so I can't really watch HQ, and lack of commercials is nice but not really worth $20) and so far I haven't been able to watch any of them

It is well known that the matches are commentated and recorded before they are actually broadcasted on justin.tv. I understand that it would be hard to put something in the actual video saying that the match will not happen, but I think it would be common courtesy to subscribers to post something on the website saying that the match will not be happening. Get the information out there somehow. Even if a mod in the chatroom on justin.tv could say that there was a walkover and that the match wasn't happening, it would alleviate a lot of the frustration people are feeling.

That is very reasonable. I will pass it along

It's spelled "Closing Words", not "Closeing Words"
|
i know this isn't what you are looking for, but right now in front of my eyes i just read this "stay tuned for: closeing words"
really? come on guys, you can't spell 'closing' correctly? That hurts my heart so much. It's like seeing a puppy on the side of the road with no home, your soul just breaks in two.

I bought the HD pass since PayPal was finally enabled, and I have to say it is really worth it. The VOD quality is quite insane, as well as the livestream. The stream does lag for me sometimes, but it seems to run better with the US stream than the Euro stream (I'm in Europe myself). That's not a huge deal though, you can just watch the VODs and they play smoothly. For the insane amount of games (and the great player), I'd say it's easily worth the money.

Isn't the point of being prerocorded the ability to deal with these kind of things? You had the mid session talk about how the game wasn't played so couldn't you have edited that part in directly after the pregame to give prior warning? and then have it again when the series is supposed to be on to get the people who missed the pregame?

Will there be lower quality on the VODS? Its impossible for me to stream the VODS atm from justin.tv (wich is weird in itself, got good inet atm)

I know this would kind of be a bummer, but why not just cast replays during the regular season, to make scheduling and coordination easier, particularly for the Korean and EU players?
Live casting seems like it would a lot easier to manage during the playoffs with a smaller pool of players.

Live casting seems like it would a lot easier to manage during the playoffs with a smaller pool of players. It seems they manage just fine, barring some walkovers? I don't know if it would improve that much, casting live just feels better in my opinion so I'm glad they do it this way.

Sync issues mean that reps are always 100% inferior to live casting.

aaaaaahhhhhh, good point. Still, livecasting so many players over so many timezones must drive you guys nuts.

Last night there was a game that was played, can't remember the specific match up, and the pictures that was presented before the match showed sjow vs cruncher. That was a mistake but it wasn't noted by the casters so I felt that it was sloppy... Although it was the only mistake of that kind for a long time.
