Dont know if this has been mentioned yet but equalizing the volume between the stream and the commercials would be nice. I have a mini heart attack every time a commercial comes on because they are like twice as loud as the NASL stream. If there is a way to get the stream volume and commercial volume set to the same level it would be greatly appreciated :D

I'd mostly like the stream to be a little more steady. NASL is the only stream besides the Day[9] Daily that I've had serious trouble watching due to lag. It's improved a lot lately, though.

I would appreciate if there were high and low quality VODs.

My internet is not fast enough for the VODs on Justin TV, and there is no option to choose a lower quality one. It's possible to choose the quality when watching on the live stream, but not on the VODs

On every justin stream you can lower the resolution by clicking the icon at lower right. Next to the full screen icon, there should be a text saying "best" or something. You click that, and instead of best you choose a lower quality. I think 240p is the lowest. But you can choose between like 4 or 5 different levels.

I believe Dtrain was talking about specifically the VODs and not the live broadcast. I also would like lower quality VODs as to not kill my internet at work....

Simple list of 5 ways to improve the NASL (for sure):

1) Commentators: Allow for IdrA/day9 to guest commentate (or more often in IdrA's case - give the ppl what they want). Gretorp and InControl have a poor tendency to lose focus during match (and not in funny Tasteosis way) and also do a bit too much of mockery imho. InControl is a SC2 baller and yet he doesn’t go into enough detail with his comments as to WHY something is good/bad, only that it is as such. Treat us like idiots (please) and baby us ad nauseum so that no details go unnoticed.

2) Let me sign in when I arrive to site! (This really bothers me so I am listing it twice.)Currently, I have to go to vods first before it painstakingly asks me to sign up for HD ticket - every freakin time, and then I can sign in.

3) Interface management:
-Music/Sound Improvement (for starters, play terran music whenever possible), but adjusting the in-game sounds to the commentators is important. Isn't there a music sponsor for NASL?!
-Provide overlays based on relevant discussion of match (e.g.- when talking of failed 4 gate, open -technology resource spending tab, or worker tab, or resources lost tab)
-Stats, stats, more stats - take the stats like those from GSL (which are way too in-your-face imho) such as stats specific to race, map, last 10 W/L record, etc, and scale them down so they won’t give you an aneurysm upon seeing them but are still useful/helpful. Use these before the matches. Currently, I know very little of most of these players, please change that (yes, I know there are bios)!

4) Make players look reasonably professional in interviews (you can have your own style without looking like bum who hasn't left room in months (sorry Sheth, I love you but the raggy white tee-shirt look, surrounded by white walls in a dark room makes me scared for you - and clearly InControl agrees...). More to the point - I was under the impression that these players are on teams. Teams should provide their players with something more appropriate to play in. All GSL players look like they were ready to be on TV...

5) Organize and define NASL content better:
-Why can't I sign in when I go to NASL.tv? Currently I have to sign in by accessing the vod content. That’s like waaaay unnecessary; you guys (at NASL) are smarter than that.
-What is difference between 'featured' and 'matchups' tab under videos for instance? Think of what the benefit is of organizing it that way if you might be just cluttering the website and confusing people. Additionally, why not split up the match vods by each set as opposed to one video which has to buffer 6 times before it can be played through.
-The structure of the league itself (in terms of reg season and playoffs) also isn't very well-defined and no information is provided concerning this on the FAQ page... (what is code A and code B, again..?) Furthermore the 'About NASL' link is totally worthless btw.

Anyways, I appreciate the opportunity to help make NASL better! I really enjoy it and hope it succeeds and grows with time; however, I truly believe in order to grow these few issues need to be ironed out first.
Heroes live forever... but legends never die.

These things have stuck out to me as well, the Moman interview was depressing. I know these guys are gamers and aren't exactly rolling in the dough, but at least try and fool me into thinking that they are not just your stereotypical gamers. It looks like Moman was in a closet, there were old boxes and a teddy bear stacked behind him and he was trying to close the door. Give them some notice if they're going to be interviewed and let them know that there is expectations for their appearance, we need to be able to look up to these guys on some level, not say '' so to be good at Starcraft I have to drop out of college, quit my job and move back in with my parents ''.

Can we get some clarification on who is allowed to spectate matches? Last night, RootCatz was shown in the game lobby spectating all matches. And someone else noted that an EG team member was spectating EGInControl's game. Why are people not directly involved with the game or broadcast allowed in the game?

I am not accusing anyone of any wrongdoing. But when there is money involved, people will be tempted to cheat. Professionals have been caught cheating in all sports, including Broodwar. With the players, spectators & NASL at different locations, there is no way to prevent a spectator from feeding a player information about the game in progress. (They could even be talking on Skype.) It's doesn't matter if you trust these people. People have cheated their close friends and family. With $400,000 on the line, it is important to avoid any appearance of impropriety.

----------

Also related, some clarity on playoff tiebreakers would be nice. The top two from each division automatically qualify for the playoff bracket. What happens if two players have the same W/L? Say Fenix and Morrow both end of 7-2, tied for second place. Fenix has 7 points to 6 for Morrow, but Morrow beat Fenix head-to-head. Publish the tiebreaker procedure in advance to prevent claims of bias..

commentators/camera controller were using their accounts... no non NASL staff members have ever spectated a match.

I demand you release the tapes!

Also, how about instead of kicking off the show with a "classic" NASL game doing a sports-entertainment-esque recap of the past day's / week's games?

Same. But for me it's not improving. Each time I want to watch nasl, I have to reload the stream like 10 times, while juggling between 240/360 and 480p until I'm connected to a good server (I guess).
Even with that, each time a battle or some action starts the stream goes in slideshow mode, with good audio but I only see the keyframes (I guess again, I have one image each like 3 seconds).
This is the only JTV stream that act like that for me, currently I'm watching idra+Sagacity invitational+Tyler streams, all justintv in best mode with zero problem.
I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the way nasl encode their videos.

Havn't read the rest of the thread so if this has been posted before my mistake.

Have a betting section similar to liquidbet and during the cast you guys can reference who people feel the favourite is and agree/disagree. As an incentive for people to sign up the person who gets the highest score at the end of the season gets a HD pass.

Loving the NASL so far judging at the size of this thread i'm not sure you hear that enough. Keep up the good work!

This is a pretty cool idea, something to think about for season 2 for sure imo.

You guys should get sponsorship. I'm sure you guys have discussed it many times, and there may be reasons you don't already have sponsorship... but if you guys are planning on going for many more seasons with such a big prize pool and paying all the employees, it just seems like the HD tickets won't be enough. Now of course I could be wrong as I don't have the numbers, but either way it seems sponsors would be a great idea, especially when you can simply show them that you are consistently getting 15k-20k viewers on the stream (plus quite a few thousand for the restream).

Stream is still quite glitchy for me, it is watchable unlike before. But like others have said I don't see why I have such trouble watching the NASL stream even in low quality when I've never so much as had a hiccup watching the GSL, TSL, IPL,ect.

Dont put the chat in followers only mode. I realy dont get why it is in followers mode, it kinda excludes the audience. Once i said something in chat they directly afterwords put it in followers only mode. Why would you do that? The NASL chat is as empty as no other i have ever seen, kinda sad

when the game ends the audio commentary from the game gets cut off and then the screen cuts back to incontrol and gretorp with new commentary, "fantastic game right there gretorp" and it seems sorta awkward... though i dont know if its something technical but it definetly could be improved.

I don't know if anyone else is having this issue, but I watch the VODs and the sound in the VODs is really weird when playing music. I don't know why, but when you guys are playing the music right after a match or before you actually start talking, all the sound goes into the right speaker on my headset. The left has little, if any sound coming out of it. As soon as the music ends, the sound becomes perfect again.

Seem like the stream dies (for everyone) at one point every single day, might want to look into that. Today it crashed during the final engagement of goody v Brat_OK game 2 and the game is over before stream comes back on.

when they were doing the intros for players before their matches, the info screens came and went WAY TOO FAST - literally, like 2 seconds!

There's barely time to read the first line, and then it vanished....

Going subscribers only chat cuts into your viewer count. Only slightly, but be aware of it. I think it's a bad decision.

i disagree, sub-only chat removes SO MUCH of the horrible chat-spam that makes the chat 100% worthless, essentially making it a "must-hide" feature

sub-only chat is awesome, even for us non-subscribers!
