Disclaimer: Yep, this is pretty much just a rant, so stop here if you couldn't care less.
I have telus for my home internet as well as mobile phone service provider. Here is basically a list of why they fucking suck. I'm not even going to include typical shitty Canadian internet problems like low speeds and high rates. There's much to list aside from that.
I call telus after receiving my modem in the mail because nothing is working when I follow the directions on setting it up. I can't even understand the lady in tech support through her thick foreign accent. She tells me nothing I already don't know and ends up saying I have a 2 year contract with them. I signed up on a month-by-month basis. I'm positive of this. She says it's too late to change anything and I'm fucked and will have to pay a huge cancellation fee after I move away when my co-op term is over. I go in to the telus branch the following day and talk to the lady I signed up with. She says she knows I did a month-by-month basis contract too. She gives me a number to call. I call the number, tell them everything, and they finally make a note of it in my file or something so I won't get a cancellation fee.
Modem still wasn't working though, not that I expected it to work after fixing the contract problem though. I call technical support again, and they say they will send a technician out to see what's up the following day. I tell them I work 8-4:30pm and won't be able to answer my phone; they say that is okay. They will send a technician at 5pm. The next day, no technician comes by 6pm. I call in and complain and the person who answers the phone basically says "well I tried to call and there was no answer for confirmation for me to come today". He then says "so what do you want me to do about it?". I told you motherfuckers I was going to be at work, are you stupid? I want you to get your bitch ass down here and fix it now. I tell him that in a more polite manner of course, and he heads over. After about an hour of no success, he leaves down the street to look at their network console for the neighbourhood. Turns out my line wasn't connected properly and he fixes it.
My first bill is larger than it was supposed to be. I check where that price is coming from online and they pretty much charged me incorrectly, adding another 10$ or so. Based on the fact that every time I call telus I get dropped 2 or 3 times and spend an hour on hold I say "fuck it" and decide it's not even worth trying to fix.
Today I get home from work and I get that stupid page in my web browser directing me to telus to register my device and log in before I can continue. I've been keeping track of everything they give me, and I haven't even been given a username yet. I call telus, the stupid machine directs me to mobile phone tech support even though I'm sure I pressed the right key for home internet technical support. They answers and says he'll transfer me to the internet technical support. I'm on hold for half an hour and then my call gets dropped. Sick! I connect my phone to my laptop and enable USB tethering so I have a temporary internet connection on my laptop. I go to telus' online help chat and submit my problem. Estimated wait time: 13 minutes... 16 minutes... it's going up? grrr... Eventually someone responds and gives me a username + password to use. That was about 10 minutes ago, and she said wait 5 minutes, so I'm gonna try this again to see if it's fixed. I'm still using the tethered connection from my phone while writing this.
I'm not even going to go in to problems I have for my cell phone with telus. This is long enough already.
Basically, in summary, telus fucking sucks. There is no other option for internet here; I'd switch to something else in a heartbeat if I could.

I feel your pain. I'm in SK and we get Sasktel or Shaw. Both blow balls

shaw isn't much better, especially with all the bullshit going around with usage based billing
telco's in canada = supreme stacks of epic fucking bullshit. i'd be hard pressed to find another product that i'm more dissatisfied with but the market in canada blows all around

service providers in canada =

good God and I thought Verizon was bad. These companies really have to get their acts together. Stronger anti trust laws would force better products through competition, right? Oh well, good luck getting everything fixed.

canadian internet sounds so much awful compared to even australia.
|
That was hilarious. The whole thing is just a giant: "Fuck off" and "Oh God". So sorry to hear about it man, I don't have your patience, could never hold my tongue to those kinds of service people.
By the way, you're entitled to a refund.
And yeah, Canadian Internet is terrible. I'm with Videotron; high-rates, low speeds is right on the dot.

If UBB or any of the demented offshoots manage to take hold I think I'll switch to a quiet life of knitting and start actually saving some money. Yes, our ISP's are terrible. Every time I think of it I boil with rage and start throwing things.

Telus is still the lesser of the evils though, in my area, Shaw is even worse.

Never heard of the company "telus". It's kinda interesting looking at such a word totally unbiased though. I was convinced it was some food I didn't know about - and something really healty! Telus could totally be one of those pop healthy foods women love so much.
Anyways, sad to hear man. You guys in America are so behind with your internet connections. Google may stir up some shit soon, but that's certainly about time! Hopefully for the benefit of Canada aswell! ^^

I really hope google comes to Canada with gigabit connections soon. I just want to see our current ISP's squirm one last time before they suffocate on their own lard and die.

Shaw >> Telus, really high speeds and it helps that I live right beside Shaw for stability purposes lol.

Yeah I'm really wanting to fucking drive by the telus branch and whip a huge rock at the window.
So I was able to log in the with username + password the person gave me, which took me to a page asking me to register my devices with their MAC addresses, and I can't continue from here. There's nowhere on the fucking page that lets me register a device. I never had to do this the first time I set it up. What the fuck is this shit? Back on stupid chat support again -_-

18:42:52 : Edsel: Thank you for choosing TELUS and welcome to the TELUS Support Centre. My name is Edsel and I am here to help you today. May I have your phone or account number?
18:43:48 : Skylar: the account number is
18:44:07 : Skylar: **********
18:44:54 : Skylar: I don't see anywhere on the page to register a device's MAC address. It simply lists the MAC address of the modem router and that is all.
18:45:00 : Edsel: Ok I will need to transfer you over to our Internet department for more help. I better not get dropped or something or there will be hell to pay.

where are you at? i find it hard to believe telus can be the ONLY provider
|
Salmon Arm, B.C.
Telus is the only internet provider in the area. I guarantee it, I've asked around.
|
Ah yes, I remember having to register mac addresses with Telus! That was always such a wonderful experience. Every time I had upgraded a mobo or switched something around I had to manually fool around with their tech support. God damnit, the flashbacks. I remember having phoned them not once but twice because they would remove the wrong mac addresses and nuke internet access on one machine. Then I'd have them fix that, but they'd remove the NEW mac addresses instead and nuke the new one. Christ, it was such a hassle.
I loathed mobo upgrades just because of Telus.

Damn that sucks
