If you want to improve mechanics for sc2, then play more sc2 (practice makes perfect). BW will be hard at first, but once you get the basics, you will experience a whole new level of awesomeness. sometimes the difference is refreshing

you just made the best decision in your life.

Speaking of unit AI, wait 'til you see the Zergling conga line, or Dragoon-minefield soup, or dud scarabs lol

Good luck with this

It's definitely an excellent way to improve your mechanics. Your mouse accuracy will increase ridiculously, as will your finger speed on your left hand.
Also, take full advantage of location hotkeys. Go anywhere, and shit Shift + F(2 or 3 or 4 here). Then, even if you move your screen away, by hitting the respective F key, you can instantly jump back to that screen. Whatever units you have selected will remain selected. It doesn't change anything but where your screen focus is. I don't know why they got rid of it in SC2. It's a ridiculously useful feature.
Keep your main mineral line binded to F2, your natural binded to F3, and your third binded to F4. Then, if any one of those bases is getting harassed, you hit F2, select 12 workers, F3 right click on a patch, F2, select the rest of the workers, F3, right click on a patch. You can transfer all your workers between bases in less than two seconds.

Good luck! You're going to be in for a shock whether you expect it or not!
The 12 (?) unit control group, no MBS, no automine, worker splitting, dragoon/lurker/goliath AI, imba storms/dark swarm/lurkers, mineral sliding bug, weird-ass wall-off technicalities and fixed unit spawning might possibly just seem a little overwhelming at first

good luck bro, you're gonna need it. bw is like man vs. machine, you gotta fight not only the opponent, but tame the retarded unit ai as well, and you're gonna learn a lot working on the skills to do that

On the other hand, it's so rewarding when you do tame them. In SC2, you celebrate when you win. In BW, you celebrate when your dragoon goes where you tell it to.

i've found the TLPD vod archive is insanely useful for learning BW (especially compared to trying to muddle through liquipedia or forum posts) since you can sort everything. for example, i can look at all Light and Flash games vZ on fighting spirit if i'm trying to learn that matchup and map, and likewise for other matchups and proleague maps.
it's a convenience that doesn't really exist in sc2.

Give it a month and i guarantee you wont come back to sc2, i know i couldnt even touch sc2 again after a month of BW.

Man why does everyone hate goons. I find them fun to micro. Move, hold, move, hold...

They didn't. It's there and you can assign even more than three screens.
Good luck, definitely try protoss first, it's the easiest to get used to 1a2a3a.

Yeah goon micro is fun and pretty intuitive. Playing on a map like Blue Storm is still pretty rough though. Dragoons hate Blue Storm
