A lot of players have made the jump from BW over to SC2. I'm doing the exact reverse.
Why? Well, I'm not very good at SC2, and I figured maybe switching to a game that is harder might make me a better player of both games in the long term.
Because think about it....the ancient graphics...the noob-unfriendly UI, the way that units travel in lines and have terrible surround...all of this (and probably more) would be an excellent learning experience. It seems like so much more is demanded of the player in BW.
Methinks this'll be a great way to improve my mechanics.
I haven't played the game since 5th grade. First goal: beat the AI.
Here goes!

good luck!

good luck!
I'd personally start off with some ums (micro tourney, tma), but that's your choice.
hope you stick around with bw ^^

A hiatus to BW will do you alot of good, check out iccup, spend time learning the game.. working on your apm etc... if you plan on returning to sc2, you wil have an advantage over others... bw will teach you somethings.. but honestly.. play sc2 as well dont wanna loose your game sense etc.. they are different games and the races play different

Its great that you are picking up BW, but i feel you are doing it for the wrong reason. If you want to improve mechanics for sc2, then play more sc2 (practice makes perfect). BW will be hard at first, but once you get the basics, you will experience a whole new level of awesomeness.

Ah, well another huge reason for why I decided to try BW is because one of my friends at school keeps telling me how awesome BW is in comparison to SC2, haha

yea going from BW to sc2 was weird because of all the shortcuts.
can i get an amen if anyone remembers splitting probes? 1a2a3a? 5sh6sh7sh?

In someways the BW graphics are better than SC2 graphics. Nothing more satisfying than seeing a goon explode into blue goo after it dies.

Trust me, once you've actually played a decent amount of broodwar, you might never want to go back to SC2 again, unless you want to troll people with your BW-enhanced mechanics.

GL hf... SC:BW will be harder.... than SC2

Welcome to the fold. Play a few games, rage about how reavers/defilers/200/200 M&M are too hard to use, watch Stork/Jaedong/Flash, get your mind blown, become a fan for life.

Hehe if you thought sc2 was hard...boy are you in for a rough ride with BW. By far the hardest game in the world to get good at...I think it even beats very high level chess. This is why I do not play it lol.

hahaha, gl
ironic, using BW as traing for SC2
Honestly, I think it would be more productive if you just constantly ladder with SC2 and use apm management/micro management maps
BW will be much harder because you have 11 years worth of practice to catch up while SC2 is just 1 year of practice to catch up
