I'm pretty sure it's not opinion, and the recommended amount of 'deep' sleep is 8 hours 45 minutes. Read it in a sciencey article that was making the case that lack of sleep is the biggest contributor to low grades and to make school days start at 10am.

I get 8+ hours most of the time anyways. Mom's doctor just told her to get less sleep, because he thinks its' slowing her metabolism.

i'm white So I am guessing that a score of 4.2 is actually very good? A 4.2 is ridiculously good Depends what grade OP is in. I had a 4.2...sophmore year? Finished high school with 6.0. You really should tell your parents to chill the fuck out. Do you at least argue back?
What grade are you in though?
The amount of sleep needed varies GREATLY between people. Some people need 9 or 8 and some can go as little as 6 or less (very rare though). It seems like your parents read way too much BS on "how to raise your child." Can't help but feel like this ties in to that ridiculous thread about why chinese mother are superior bs

The highest recorded in my district was an 8.0...or maybe a 9? Highest in my school was 7.0. Some Japanese guy, when I was a freshman, who got a full ride to Yale. Some nerdy white, named Alex?, had near a 7 I think and got into MIT with some scholarship. He was a really bright guy from what I heard. My val and sal hovered around 6.5

wtf are you talking about? are you SURE your school didn't just have some kind of weird grading system? I've never heard of anything above 5.0. AP class gives you a 5 for an A, 4 for a B, etc etc. The AMOUNT of AP classes you take shouldn't matter as long as you take 100% AP classes the maximum would still be 5.0 whether you took 10 AP classes or 8 AP classes (as long as none of you classes were non-AP).

A=4 B=3 C=2 D=1 honor class bonus: .04 (i think) AP class bonus: .08 (Again I think).
Those are my OVERALL GPA. Is that the misunderstanding here? All the numbers that you quoted me on are overall, the GPA which they graduated out of

Similar here. So your GPAs added up to 6?

Wait...I've never heard of those bonuses o__o
If you took all 30 AP classes, you would still end up with a 6.4...to get an 8.0 that guy would have had to have taken 40 honors classes on top of 30 AP classes (assuming you have a 4.0 GPA + 0.04x + 0.08y, where x is honors and y is AP)...right?

Yeah, i've never heard of "bonuses" besides counting an A as a 5, B as a 4, etc. Guess it's different in different schools.

Well yes he would have to taken honor classes. Obviously to break the 4.5 or 5 mark you can't take any regular, or what we call boom-boom classes. The bonuses might not be right...it could be.04/.06. I can't remember exactly
so OP what are..fresh or soph

Oh, just overweighted bullshit.
I'm Junior, but it's a totally different system.

However, what blows my mind is the fact that to get an 8.0, one must take not only Japanese/French/German/Spanish/Latin/Eng Lang&Lit but also other fields differing extremely widely (Bio/Physics/Chem/Art/various history classes), and--at the same time--multiple honors classes. Can we even fit in that many? One would have to take >90% of all classes outside of school or something... Even a 6.2 GPA would require an obscene number of classes outside of school.
Our GPA is also only determined by soph/junior(maybe senior 1st sem?) GPA, and I have >4.5 with three boom-boom classes because we use the 5=A in ap/honors, rest correspond to descending whole numbers.
Edit: ninja'd...yeah just weird overweighted stuff o__o

Well they should get off of you when you are a senior. Senior year doesn't really matter for the college. Colleges look heavily at the fresh to junior year. The only thing you have to worry about the Senior year is keeping your place and rank. Chances are you won't go up and pass someone up a rank on your senior year. Obviously don't fail senior year else the colleges you were accepted to may drop you, although I rarely hear/see that happen.
