Eh, my parents were like that all through high school too, I even got about the same GPA / 5s on all my AP tests. They were mostly just pissed because I could get the straight A's/4.8/whatever the best grade possible was, but I didn't care enough to do the busywork to actually earn the grade. They did always say they wouldn't bug me if I actually got the grades, and even followed through on it when I went to college (where I actually cared, too) and did great. I just ignored their rantings in the meantime, but I will admit it was nice to shut up them up when they saw my first semester's grades. But only if it's worth it to you.

Once you get into university, things will settle down. If your lucky and you get and maintain good grades, you can try transferring to a better University. I don't know much about the US system but over here in Melbourne, they don't care much about your high school grades once you finish a year of University studies.

Once you've scared the shit out of them, then they will start to treat you with some RESPECT. Make your parents cry over how their son is going to be in prison one day and worry until they have serious health issues.

It's called the gap rule - if a really good person is generally seen as well to do, but then fuck up in a small way, then everyone condemns him. If on the other hand some delinquent homeless faggot does one tiny act of unexpected kindness, the whole community praises him like some fucking saint. Set your expectations low, so your achievements will shine.

Sleep is different for everyone... some need more than others etc.

In your experience how much sleep do you need in order to not feel tired the next day? It's probably not over 8.5 hours of sleep as you've implied. You might want to discuss this with your parents and refer them to some doctors/books regarding this :3

jokes aside, from a parents perspective, you should talk. It's hard to get started talking, but just talk about expectations, effort, their ideas, your perspective.

I think it will be a struggle for me, but I'd like to have a very clear understanding between me and my children about school and performance and effort. And such. (it's already slipping X-) my oldest one just doesn't like to talk into detail but that will come with age perhaps)

your parents may be very different from me, of course......

Not sure how the grades work, but as I guess as long as you try your best and your parents realise that you actually tried, then I guess they have no choice but to shut up, even if you didn't get the grades they want. However, if you didn't actually try your absolute best and still don't get the grades, then you can't really blame them for giving you pressure.

As I said, I really have no clue how your grading system works, but if 4.2 is like 90 out of 100, then maybe your parents are over reacting a bit.

One thing I can say for 100% sure.

Happiness doesn't come from school grades. A lot of people work their ass off, just to get their ass handed to them time after time. Sometimes stuff like this is really thankless work. For example, your parents pushing you around about this... makes you quite pissed off at the very people who you could also be very thankful and happy about.

You need to realise what is important in life. For me, I love my family and my soon-to-be-wife. It brings me incredible amounts of joy to be able to say "whatever happens in life, we are going to live happily, because we have each other". Instead of like... "shitshitshiiiit, need better grades or else I'm fucked for life because I become nobodyyy".

Question:
If you hit number 5.0 in your grades, do you think you would "win the game"?

PS. This is just viewpoint of life. Some people are more greedy about things and want to be ambitious aiming high and things like that. I never really understood what exactly are they looking for in life because for me, love is the most fulfilling feeling of all. And when it's real, it lasts forever.

PPS. "You just lost THE GAME!"

PPPS. I'm not trying to encourage you to throw off your studies. Sometimes you just gotta work hard to become "free to do what you truly want". It's the rule of this world.

How old are you OP? You ever sit down with the rents and tell them frankly that you have a problem with how they treat you? Explain you are grateful for their concern but you need some serious slack. If it turns into a big argument so be it. Sometimes there's nothing for it but to draw a line in the sand and say 'Fuck this, this is what I want to do right now so this is what I am going to do'. Worst they can do is kick you out; sometimes it's worth it.

Sorry that your parents are getting you down, but that sort of thing was fairly normal when I was growing up. Honestly, at the ripe old age of 30, I look at the younger generation and see nothing but a bunch of self serving assholes who feel that they are owed something from society - merely for existing.

This is what happens when we start giving trophies out for last place and trying the approach of reasoning with young children when they act out. I miss the days when you could beat the fear of god into your kids if they were acting like idiots (ok, I certainly don't condone child beating, but a spanking never hurts).

Even Blizzard has catered to these idiots:

1) WoW went from a game where if you had more than 4-5 epic items, you were the man. Now every fucking herp who can afk for hours in a bg can get a purple. Yaaayyyy

2) SC2 ladder. Absolutely no point in giving a shit if you're #1 ranked in the Rancho Grande division. Let's make it even worse by breaking it up into 6 different leagues on top of it. I liked it better in bw (in the early days when ladder mattered) that if your ass wasn't top 1000, your name wasn't showing up on the list.

I think it sucks to have your parents drag on you, but what they're trying to instill on you is work ethic. It is something that is severely lacking amongst the youth I see today, and I think it will set you head and shoulders above the rest of your peers when it matters most (ie getting a fucking job).

Nobody gets something for nothing.
