Sooo. volume 8
First time for some background
I got a 4.2 in school. Parents raged We went to monterey so I couldn't prepare for school
But last week in an argument with my parents they spitefully said if I had a 4.8 1/4 of the way through next semester they would shut the hell up. They will do it, and they think I have no chance. What a bunch of trusting people.
Today I had very little in class: being the first day of a new semester all I had to do was print something, write two paragraphs, and do two math problems. SO I talked to a couple friends, revised a opsition paper, looked at tl, watched the state of the union, studuied some math. It was like 10:30, so I jump on tl to check my posts and then go to bed and then...
"When are you going to go to bed?" I dunno, maybe 10 minutes? So 15 minutes later and I"m still not in bed. Should I have gone to sleep. Probably. Would that mean I would get 9 hours of sleep. Yeah
Dad comes out and yells about me not going to bed and lieing toh im
Mom then comes out
They start yelling about sleep, and how I should go to bed earlier and read before I go to bed, and how it's a shitty start to getting good grades blah blah blah.
Essentially I need over 8.5 hours of sleep :/
Then she said I had no chance at getting those grades.
Sure it's not exciting this time around, but I felt like I needed to vent :/

Exactly what I was thinking.
|
I bet you can't wait for college eh? Sorry to hear about your insane parents man, just keep it real.
|
You don't need me to tell you that that is some insane bullshit man.
But if you do, that's some insane bullshit
|
Can someone explain to me this 4.2score? Sorry, I don't have anything like that in Australia, so its mildly confusing. Whats the score out of? 5? and what does the score represent, marks on a test? or overall marks of the semester.
|
Well, it's out of 4. 5s are As in college classes.
It's overall amrks.

lol it's part 8 and people are still asking if hes asian XD.
|
Your parents care but they need to fucking chill. They obviously want to instill good habits in you so that you'll have a good chance at a great life, so I hope you understand that. You need to explain to them wholeheartedly that yelling at you doesn't actually help their case. Do your best, get the grades you need to get, and do it your way man. If you can achieve that, you'll be ready for life on your own and hopefully they'll be able to see that. Just hang in there man.
|
Yeah. They don't think they're yelling. They think theyr'e "getting their point across"

Lol wtf? No offense but your parents sound like some of the worst parents ever...you are maintaining "decent" grades and they won't even let you do what you want to do....

Fuckk you have it worse than most asian kids. Do they beat you by any chance? I can't really go and read the rest of your blogs because I'm procrastinating on something right now ><. I'm feel sorry for you. But the bright side is that they are pushing you to succeed and getting these grades will be good in the end so as misanthrope said, hang in there

So I am guessing that a score of 4.2 is actually very good?
|
what are the odds you get a 4.8?
|
Honestly, seeing as how your mom had to "supervise" you during the fucking LAN, i found it pretty ridiculous. At some point you should tell her that she wont be able to watch you in college and you need to learn how to work on your own without them pressuring you. You should be able to go anywhere with just them knowing where you are. They dont need to chaperone everywhere you go. I am a high school senior and considering you are a Junior, you should have similar freedoms. Your mom seemed to talk to you in a very condescending tone and I think she needs to change that. This is a 4.2 out of what scale? That is a very high GPA for most colleges if 4.0 scale. If you have decent extracurriculars and test scores you will definitely have a good pick in college already. You live in california, you with a 4.2 you WILL go to college. I think you need to be honest to her and tell her that you need some freedom.
About sleep, deal with it, I have gone with less than 30 hours of sleep in a week. Its something you will have to deal with later in life, job, college and high school.
Not to judge or anything, but you do seem a little short for your age maybe that might be why your mom is so insecure about you. shes scared of you getting picked on? :O
I dont know, but you should convince your parents that when the next LAN comes, they have already seen what happens there and they shouldnt worry about it and maybe you can stay the whole time, by yourself.

You know, I wouldn't really take my advice because I have a HUGE problem with illusionary power ( which is exactly what your parents have) but I'd hit them hard with a reality check if I were in your position.
I'm not the type of guy to not understand that your parents are trying to help, I'm sure they are but they seriously need a reality check. They need to fully understand the importance of school and success in general. And so do you.
Grades really aren't that important. They're really not. I'm sorry, you won't understand this at your age ( you're what, 10th, 11th grade? ) because that's all you've been exposed to but there is a WHOLE other world out there. Your parents are teaching you the textbook (literally...) style of going through life.
Do well in school, get into a good university, get a good job, find a nice wife, marry, have kids, teach your kids the same thing.
Here's the thing about success/greatness: it doesn't come from a textbook. It doesn't come from getting A's in high school.
Take a look at some of the richest men in our society. Why are they so rich? It's because they've contributed greatly to society. Why are majority of them school drop-outs? Because school is bullshit.
Grades don't matter. I'm sorry, they don't matter. All a grade says about somebody is their ability to replicate information on paper.
True success comes from seeing the beauty in what school teaches. You're probably in pre-calc right? True success comes to people who take a look at partial fraction decomposition and say to themselves "holy shit, I can split up fractions like this?" True success comes to people who have the capacity and insanity to apply what they've learned from a textbook to something that changes people's lives.
THAT is why you go to school. So you find that passion and love for whatever subject blows your hair back. Your parents, like most, probably don't understand that. True success doesn't come from being forced replicate information on paper to the point that you're pissing your pants when you get a 93.
Open your eyes, take a look around, and put school into perspective. Only then will you be able to tolerate your parent's bullshit and their groping pressure to plunge you into a life of mediocrity.
