Its normal and human to rage over losses in a game like this. I can see where you are coming from for sure, but I really have to disagree with your conclusions. I've been upset at losing plenty of times, I've never raged at anyone I'm playing because I'm an adult and I try to act like one when I can help it. I used to play chess in a coffee house, people got upset when they lost, no one ever once went into some kind bizarre rage in person. The bad manners in this thread aren't normal or acceptable ways to talk to other people outside the wonderful world of the internet anonymity shield. I'm not going to give people a free pass because starcraft 2 is a stressful game. I'm with you on the rest of what you said entirely. I don't see making someone rage as a special victory or a sign that you played well. I'm just all for derision being heaped on people who act like massive jerks because they don't have to deal with the other person again. Heck, the funniest* rage I've received recently was from someone who beat me. He literally went on for about 2 minutes about how "that's what you get for muta &^%$ noob" on and on and on. I stuck around for the whole monologue. *To me it's funny, I apologize if you don't see humor in people flying off the handle the way I do.
It is quite different when they talk to you face to face. When you hide behind your ID you can let your inner darker person come out. I dont do it, I get happy when ppl flame me, since then I know I played well (or at least they played like shit).

Played on my friend's accnt who's ID is: 'iLoveSex' and so i just have to start by saying: Me: "GL Have Sex" (as a joke) Him: "i have noone to have sex with." "my gf left me and is fucking other guys"

I dont see the humor in upsetting people. None of these quotes are even funny. To not feel that would be inhuman.
I think that people feel more satisfaction than they should from getting these responses from people. It seems to me like the winners of these games equate the losers rage to a heightened amount of dominance, when really, you could just be going around choosing random and 6 pooling people over and over until you catch someone whos already in a bad mood, then screen cap their BM. It wouldnt really mean you are some kind of super badass player leaving nerds in your wake with your extreme skill. Hell, most of these wins are probably half luck, or the losing player actually is better than the person who ended up winning. But hey, if people want to continue to create a meal out of their tiny victories then no one really stop them. All i can say is, yeh, maybe there is something to people who rage over a loss, but screen capping it when it isnt even that funny and posting it on a forum isnt a whole lot more dignified in my eyes.
Everybody gets mad.
I've read really much strange stuff at the internet, but this is just...so...wrong...like...everything.
How can you defend people who can't control themselves and BM their opponents, it's beyond me. You make it seem like writing "fuck you" is ok after losing a game and that the person screenshotting this is the real villain.
Sorry for this off-topic post of mine, but this is just so disturbing...

Not going to lie man - one of the strangest things i've read on here for a while. This thread is about BM and judging from what you said you are trying to defend BM. "Everybody gets mad" - so telling someone they are "fucking shit" or "a useless idiot" etc is okay because you're having a little tantrum?
Don't worry guys - i lost a game, so i am angry, so i can tell you to fuck off and that's ok because hey what the hell -- everybody gets mad right?
Yes people get mad - but it's called manners - amazingly it also translates into the real world where treating people with respect is somehow the norm? Crazy hey?

A terran named RickyBobby tried to 2 rax bunker rush me on LT, I held it off and teched to banelings.
I busted into his base (he was trying to expand) and overwhelmed him with Banes and Speedlings. Called me a homosexual slur......
He proceded to lift all of his buildings, and scatter them all over the map. He took the island expo, but I nailed it with mutas and a baneling carpetbomb.
He said something pretty damned funny just before I cleaned up the rest of his floating buildings.....
Hey man, you said it, not me!

In a 2v2 yesterday, we scout double terran rushing, so I get a bunker up in between our ramps, pump marines as quick as possible. Then just past the normal rush timing we started to wonder if they actually were rushing, when one of the players named BoxeR comes at us with a bunch of scvs and marines. He goes straight past the bunker and up the ramp to my protoss team mate's base. Then suddenly turns around and heads home without even attacking, losing most of his units to my bunker along the way.
A few minutes later we push to their base, start winning the battle and BoxeR leaves the game. I said, "damn, he ain't no BoxeR" to all, to which his teammate replied "I KNOW!", "HE WAS USELESS!!".

I agree. I don't think it's a good thing to vent your anger, but it happens and it's understandable. Poking people when they lose is never a good idea unless you want to incite some sort of response, and if you do then it's as much your BM as theirs. And it isn't really all that funny (most of the time).

Its funny how my post is extremely well thought out and both starts and ends this debate in my opinion, and yet people say im "crazy".
Listen, you will not find in my post a defense of BM as in "its ok to be a dick online". My post is pointing out that raging over something as competitive and taxing as RTS is normal. And therefore it takes the astonishment out of the spectacle of rage for anyone who understands that. Dogs lick their balls for christs sake. Do you hate your dog for being a dog? No. You simply deal with its behavior because it is a dog. Same for people raging after a frustrating loss. I dont sit and marvel at it. Its normal. Its nothing. Its not funny, or at best, its rarely funny.
My point was that i dont really see any difference in the ridiculousness of raging after a loss, vs screencapping it and bringing it to a forum to show off how mad you made somebody after you 6 pooled them. To me, they seem equally sleazy. If you read my post as defending BM or being pro-BM, im sorry, but you need to learn to read.
On a slight side note/rant, who cares what is BM or not? Really. Im not pro-BM, but i almost want to be when i see post after post of people whining about it. There is no rule stating that i have to like you, or that i cant get mad after a loss. You wont find that anywhere in life. I dont see how you expect to dictate it to everyone as if there is some moral code everyone has to follow. I think people should be cool to each other online. If you stomp someone out, you should say things like "hey man dont worry about it" or "you did ok man, next time..." But there is no rule in life that people are going to be well mannered. I have a sneaking suspicion this entire thread is just a bunch of people braggin about how they got somebody to rage. The reason i feel this way is because none of the quotes are even funny, unless you get off on beating someone, pissing them off, and knowing you are safe behind the internet to laugh at them. Which isnt really noble or decent at all. But hey man, dont let me stand in your way, i just dont see the glory in it. Threads like this sort of fuel internet rage rather than silence it. I guess id just rather see people admit that they are just proud they beat someone and got them to rage, rather than disguising it as "FUNNY QUOTES".
But anyways, ill leave you to it then.
EDIT: okok i guess the guy who said "youre just mad because im being a fag now" is kinda funny. But thats not genuine rage. Thats borderline verbal comedic brilliance.

Ultralisk + Overseer chasing after random solo ghost around the map.
"Him: My ghost doesn't want a hug!" "Me: But my Ultra just wants to cuddle though!"
2v2
Partner: "Why'd you send my Mothership there alone!" Me: "I wanted to lure out the Sentry Ball and Recall my Thorball... you used the energy on Vortex didn't you" "Partner: Uh... Yeah, lol." *While this discussion was happening, my ball of 20 Thors was sitting at the expansion I just finished roflstomping with them with "Not Enough Energy" beginning to fade from my screen*
4v4: Partner 1: Lets RUSH!!! Me: NO!!!! Partner 2: 6 Pooling scrub Partner 3: Learn2Eco Partner 1: My house runs on solar.
2v2:
Partner: Ready to push when you are. Me: You're gonna love this. Partner: Just get your roachling here already. Partner: how many Ultras is that? Me: 23... I think.
1v1 Opponent massed Vikings late game, I massed Ultras, I destroyed all his supplies and forced his production vehicles to lift off. He killed all my overlords and was camping his Vikings over my Hatch to prevent further Overlord production while a few ultras patrolled the map to keep him from landing his OC's and rebuilding supply depots or CCs to float for enough safe supply to start rebuilding.
"Me: Come down here and fight me like a man." "Her: I'm a chick"
|
At the start of the game
Me: "gl hf" Him: "fuk you" Him: "i aint here to make firends"
I guess he was still raging from the previous game or something. I thought about responding, but last time I responded to something like that I sat on 9 supply for the first couple minutes of the game. -_-

@Mellotron
Getting angry is a part of life, and so is self control.
If you ask me you should always have enough self control to stop yourself from pressing enter and flaming the other guy. I could state atleast 5 ways to relieve anger that are better than going "YOU'RE A FUCKING NOOB AND YOU'RE NEVER GONNA GET LAID".
Such as: 1. Punching your bed as hard as you can as many times as you can. 2. Pushups. 3. Kicking a door. 4. Uninstalling the game then Re-install it. 5. Call your mom.
I know and I acccept that losing is a bitch and makes you angry but 9/10 times I personally get BM is when I held back some guys cheese and won.
OT: *start of the game* Me: League? Him: Silver, you? Me: DIAMOOOONND!!!! Me: Actually, I'm bronze.
He then proceedes to marine rush me and loses it. So I keep reinforcing my troops and he keeps "marine rushing" me with like 6 marines over and over even though I clearly outnumbered him. So after a while I got tired of it and I pushed out and proceeded to kill him.
Him: OMG you noob screw you Me: because I'm a lower league than you? Him: fuckkkkkkkkkk you *leaves*
|
Just before the final push in a 2v2
|
Yesterday I rushed my opponent who failed to scout at all (in diamond...) and the response I got was:
"Go **** a guy, get AIDs and die you ******* homo"
I know its only the net and all but man, how much anger does a person have to lash out like that over a game?
