how cool would that sound coming in like "I challenge you to a $1000 match, but only if you play us 1v2." smells like pussy, i hope the OP has some good defense against cheese.

playing terran will help. Plus for map picks i'm going to try to pick big ones, or ones with more than 4 starting locations.

Will any money actually be on the line? I highly doubt you're playing for $1000.00 real moneys.

Realistically, it should be something like $100. One-thousand is a bit ridiculous for some Gold scrubs to be paying-out.
CheAse, I need to get in on this. I'm gonna message you when you get online bnet :D

This thread is ridiculously hilarious. I hope you rape them 1v2. We won't need live commentating because...
+ Show Spoiler +Day[9] will surely do a Daily on this <3

are you guys going to go through with the 1k bet? LOFL? or just 1v2 for pride. Either way, it's epic.

They were talking about sc2 team games so I tried to join in, asked them how good they are, races, ect. After I got shunted, they go on about how hard 2v2 3v3 and 4v4 is. I tell them that 1v1 is where most of the competitive gaming is, and they respond by telling me that I will never get better if I only play 1v1.
I'm sorry but that's is freaking hilarious! I can totally imagine it.
"You won't get any better if you only play 1v1 you f*cking noob! Hah, you f*cking loser! 2v2 and 3v3 is what you do to get better idiot!"
This should be verryyyy good, send us replays if you actually end up playing!
Why would they shunt you from their conversation though? You were just trying to join the conversation, but obviously they are very cocky if they just say like shut up, go away after you ask a few questions
EDIT: Lol you guys are insane. Let me give you two analogies which you are trying to defend:
1. Two people talking about the golf round they just had. They "torn it up." You, a good amateur golfer, overhear the conversation. After discovering they were playing on the local course (EGADS) and using improper out-of-the-rough technique, you quickly explain who you are and how they are playing wrong. Shockingly, rather than accepting your advice, they are rude and wonder why you are talking to them.
2. Two people are carrying a basketball, about to play 21. After seeing that they aren't that good, you randomly show up to challenge them to a 2v1. Shockingly, rather than accepting your bold challenge, they don't give a fuck and tell you to fuck off.
This isn't how the real world goes. You don't bust into games of 21 and challenge kids for their honour; You ask if you can play too and then show them you're good. Why am I even explaining this it's fucking common sense.
I totally get what you mean Chill, but like CheAse said.
Not this time.
Not Starcraft
On a more serious note, he didn't actually go like, I challenge you two nerds to a duel, or anything retarded like that, I would have given them my friend code and been like, let's play sometime!
|
you should do it in a lan center, that way they cant substitute with Day[9] or something.
|
|
cocky people (truly cocky, not the funny kind of cocky) are the worst. make sure you play more than one game (Bo3 or Bo5 or something).
GOOD LUCK CHEASE
Edit: If it's 2v1 maybe you should get 2000 for winning

GO CHEASE!
this blog is awesome btw :p

I remember 1v4ing my friends in college @ sc. Won easily. But they wanted it. They already knew I was way better than them.
I'm sure by this point they know they are going to lose. If they don't they are fools. Either way they wanted it so go ahead and crush them.
Many people are unfamiliar with the skill gaps that are possible in strategy games. They don't realize the levels that those who are serious about self improvement can attain.
(self in regards to the game, of course. it is just a game. but it's also reflective of the person)

I only play a few games decently. They include, Chess, Texas Hold 'Em, SSBM, and Brood War.
When I meet other people who play, I make it a personal point of mine to not say "I'm good at this game," or anything along those lines. Let your game speak for you. If they're worse than you, win gracefully and don't gloat. If they're better than you, lose gracefully and maybe you'll learn something. I met a guy who is like 2300 FIDE ranked in Chess, and he's played some online poker with small winnings (at least he isn't in the red). We're buddies now, and I've learned quite a bit about both from him. I've taught a few people quite a bit about SSBM and Brood War (even though my max rank is D+ LOL!).
You get to show off how awesome you are without looking like an asshole. Everybody wins!

not only in strategy games but any game, or activity for that matter. it is always surprising how good at X people can get, with enough practice.

for some reason i wrote this:
Assuming that they're actually serious about the 1k, and assuming that they're really nooby with no real macro skills, they should be practicing team super-cheeses to hell. Even the most inexperienced of noobs can quickly grasp the build of a cheesy rush, and most of them can perform the rush with some degree of competence. Not to mention that against a player of your caliber, the chances of them winning will grow slimmer and slimmer as the game progresses into a long macro game, therefore they'd want to end it as early as possible.
The best way to guarantee a 2v1 win against a vastly superior opponent is to practice all possible team cheese combos while racing as random.
Things like 2x 6rax reaper, 2x double in-base 2gate or 1in-base/1outside 2gate, a combo of in-base 2gate & 6rax reaper, cannon rushing with any other cheese, things like that in a 2v1 situation are nearly impossible to stop unless you know before the game that they're going to happen. And if they play as random, you won't be able to know exactly what cheese they are pulling off.
Even if they aren't randoming, and you know their races beforehand, any 2v1 rush they throw at you will still be hard to defend. From my experience of 1v2s, the best chance of fending off these team rushes are to use toss and go for a fast defensive cannon rush + a secret expo if you get the chance. Try playing on a map where a minimum number of cannons will cover all of your min line and other cannons. If you survive any rushes they throw at you, you are almost guaranteed to win because their macro will suck big balls afterwards.
