So there are these 2 guys in my class who are pretty much duchebags and think they are "the shit".
They are the kinda guys who only talk to girls and try to impress everyone by making bad dirty jokes(not many ppl like them).
They were talking about sc2 team games so I tried to join in, asked them how good they are, races, ect. After I got shunted, they go on about how hard 2v2 3v3 and 4v4 is. I tell them that 1v1 is where most of the competitive gaming is, and they respond by telling me that I will never get better if I only play 1v1.
I didn't want to sound like an elitist so I didn't tell them off.
Now the question is should I tell them they are noobies and put them in their place.
by the way, they are like gold in all of their leagues.
Yea i've ran into people like this before. My boss was talking about SC before and how WoW is so much harder. I told him he probably didn't have any idea what goes on in the SC world, and he responded with something like "Umm i used to play turret defense all the time, i know how to play online".
imo you should ask them to play with you, and then beat their faces in when you do. Then they wouldnt say shit, and you could even call them noobs online THEN go talk to the girls they try to get and tell them you are the best SC2 player in the class, you'll get laid for sure.
Sounds like they are just cool and having fun. You shouldn't try to "beat them" because I foresee that just ending in you looking like a fool.
Edit: Like everything about this situation shows you've already lost. Considering only talking to girls a negative thing. Having a legitimate point against them but being shut down. Not standing up for yourself and your point and favouring avoiding argument.
Just ignore them tbh. You are already undeniably better than they are, so by playing them, there's a chance that you may lose. You gain nothing from winning, so don't take that chance.

Holy hell you're so negative. @OP just ignore them it's a waste of energy to even try convince them how fat they are.
No point in being douche yourself. Most importantly, why are people trying to tell those people about competitive world? The flux we got from release of SC2 is enough.

How is that negative? Do you disagree?
Edit: If you really want to play with them, the best route is to go in humble and silent, win convincingly, and then stay silent afterward. There's no one more frustrating to lose to than someone like that (for me at least).

I think it's negative, you basically just shut down his every motive to even try to convince them lol which is funny. Yes I do agree.
Gonna agree with Chill, there's a life lesson to be learned here: how to pick your battles. Not only are these kids better than you at Starcraft 2 by having a more diverse training regiment that encompasses all game types, they are better with women, they are funnier than you, and based on the story completely alpha dogged you right in front of everyone. And by everyone i mean the audience of girls they were probably talking to at the time.

I'm making some wild jumps here, but I'm imaging the 2 kids in the story making some stupid comments in passing to the OP and forgetting about it. And then him focusing on "I'll get them!" And what's going to happen? He'll either lose and look like a joke, or he'll win and they won't give a fuck.
OP, just do you. That means not making a diabolical plan to get back at 2 guys who play Starcraft 2 casually. That's my advice.

You're right, i really should have said something, but i couldn't think of anything to say at the time that wouldn't sound like " i'm better than you so i know better".
I haven't told them i''m any good at all, I'm assuming that they think I'm bad since they were telling me how to learn to play.
On a side note, i'm in computer information batcholer program. You don't want to see any of my female classmates naked.
Let them have their fun. If there comes a time where you're all in a game together, then you show them up. But don't force it with a "I'm better than you noobs" attitude

I was just going through this thread and then read your message and was like wow negativity! You're right though it's true, most of the time when I see these "my friend thinks this game / I'm a better player than you type of thing and the OP seeking advice how to shut them down. I just believe it's a waste of your effort to even do so because of you just said Chill ^_^
No chill these plans often work out great and are very satisfying.
I remember one time in highschool these 2 kids were talking about snood and they're like "yeah just shoot the balls onto the other balls that are the same" and I literally LOL'd until my spine shattered and told them "Yo, you guys don't know shit about snood, like bounce targeting or set-up shots. If you want I'll school you in snood right now."
I think they were really embarrassed cause one of them said to the other, "Yo Jake did you bring the weed? Let's get some pizza before the party" and they like didn't even wanna talk to me about snood anymore because they were so owned. It's reasons like that that make me happy I spent so much time practicing snood, and I would advice the OP to jump at the chance to put "cool dudes" like them in their place.

First determine whether you give a fuck, which may depend on a legion of factors such as whether others give a fuck. If a victory over these folks is likely to benefit you, go for it.
I assume it's far more likely that these girls and baddies simply don't care all that much about the game, and any victory in the game will accrue you little benefit.

-_- guys like these are easy to turn into your friends. Give them your name/indentifier, play a couple of game with them and you will completely forget they were douchebags. Although they will mostly be just your SC2 pals for a while it's a good start.
To be a bit more serious, in situations like this, "winning" won't really matter or will make you feel better. Chances are if you just challenge one to a 1v1 or something, and you win, they'll just be like "lolnerd", or they might not even accept the challenge at all. After all, they have nothing to prove. The only way to "win" is make them feel 100% confident, make them put money on the line, and completely "own" them. Or better yet just ignore them lols.

Chill obviously doesn't understand how things work in the real world.
Here's what you do. It's halloween soon so go the store and get yourself a cape. cover it in elmers glue and sprinkle glitter all over it so it shines like the night sky. Next time you see these two faggots in class talking about some shit stand up on a desk and shout I CHALLENGE YOU TWO NERDS TO A DUEL. The girls will oooh and ahhh about how fucking studly you are, but ignore them, we'll get to the condom talk later (just kidding who wears that rubbery shit).
Have the school set up the computers in your local lecture hall. They can project the game on the big screen. It'll be a 1v2 because you're the mothafrackin honka boss here okay? You'll have to play Terran because you can only play with one hand cuz your other will be busy holding each girl's hair up while they blow you and everyone knows you dont need 2 hands to play terran.
The game is gonna start and they're going to respectively 6 pool you and proxy 2 gate. Don't make a single scv. Take the 6 you have and make them line up at the front of your command center. Tell them to start spinning their drills in unison as they hold them up to the sky. This will summon the Spiral King, Lord Genome to your base. Once their units get to your location the King will absorb them into his body with his Spiral Power, giving him the power of all 3 races, essentially making him a Xel Naga. Your opponents' workers will stop mining and bow down to you, chanting your name over and over. Try not to get freaked out by this, keep your composure.
The two kids you're playing will start to panic and sweat as Lord Genome stares directly into their soul, they'll try to apologize for ever shunning you, but you'll hear none of their bullshit. The Spiral King will plow his fists through the screen into their pathetic chests and rip out their hearts, holding them in their faces so that the last thing they see is their heart, still beating, still beating, breaking out of their body, and flying away. Like a bat outta hell.

What chill says would apply more imo if you were not in a a nerdling environment aka a compsci class or whatever related class it is. And like you said, the girls are almost never hot in those classes LOFL...wait...i'm questioning if this is really a class related to a computer major...the ratio of guys to girls in those is always about 50:1. Is this class a comp info requirement class or a general credit ur taking?
I swear to god computer science people that try to act like they are the shit are the most LOL people you will ever meet or see or hear. And there are noobs like this at every college everywhere.
They think they are the shit, and talk obnoxiously loud and what's coming out of their mouth is almost 99% of the time some brag about how good they or someone they know is doing something.
College is a place of toolbags and dooshes, you just gotta get used to it imo, but if you really want to fuck them up, then yes, challenge them to bet games 1v1, or even find someone good online and challenge them to 2v2s (hell, I'll join you and beat up on these kids if you really want. Every now and then I like spelling out "NOOB" on the minimap with SCVS,).
If they're nerdlings, they may give a fuck, if not, they won't care and they'll do what noobies that just got schooled do and ignore that they got schooled and talk about something else.
But guess what? You won't give a fuck either, and it's win for you - they'll probably stop talking like they are kings of the world and bragging about their "mad skills."
There's nothing more annoying that people that brag like they are the shit but actually suck.

Oh yeah, OP, this was happening in an environment actually relating to computers right? Because like, if I was just talking to my friend somewhere random about Starcraft 2 and some random guy I don't know pops out and starts asking us questions I'd probably just start trolling him irl -_-. Kinda like what these guys did.

That really depends on the enviroment lol. I mean, if this was going on in your High School lunchroom or w/e the only one looking like a tool would be the OP lol.
Yeah and when they're hanging out and doing gay shit like always talking only to girls the OP can just leer at them from far down the hallway and think to himself, "lol i totally own those 2"
like so.
But even then imo, just being a pussy and walking away isn't probably the best way to do it. I can kind of picture the OP, like, some awkward nerd starting a conversation with these noobs and then losing confidence and just kind of awkwardly withdrawing. Need some confidence son. Betting significant amounts of money in a situation that highly favors them would be pretty positive imo.
Walking away is fine, but only if you can genuinely not make yourself care. Don't walk away upset and bitter at these "douchebags" for "talking to girls" and being bronze leaguers. That would really be the worst thing to do.
First, you need to get a smurf account (bronze preferably). Then you gotta go into class acting like they're the good ones... ask them to teach you some things. Start up a "practice game" with one of them and ask stupid questions in the beginning. Then you demolish them, offensive gg, and call them a scrub.

Yeah, first thing you should do when you see them next is just walk up and say, "$22 and this Casio watch says I can own you two 1vs2 in Starcraft 2." If they start laughing that means they're nervous and you've officially won "mind games: round 1"

The only solution to this problem is to openly challenge them to a 1v2. You can't just be like "hey bros, let's play 1v2", though. You have to jump up on your desk, and throw down the fucking gauntlet in front of God and everyone.
This way, when you win, all the chicks will flock to you, and the douchers will be forced into social isolation.

You should go up to them and tell them they are stupid ass noobs, and then they'll challenge you to a duel, and you say lets make it 1v2, and that you can beat both at the same time (watch for double 6pools) and beat them, and get all the girls!

2 vs 1 can still be hard no matter their skill level. if they are like 2/3 worse then you. combined they are 1 1/3 you.
They are getting twice your resources, even if they are mindless idiots eventually they will build stuff.

Holy hell you're so negative. @OP just ignore them it's a waste of energy to even try convince them how fat they are.
How is that negative? Do you disagree?
Edit: If you really want to play with them, the best route is to go in humble and silent, win convincingly, and then stay silent afterward. There's no one more frustrating to lose to than someone like that (for me at least).
Only talking to girls is kinda lame unless you're afraid of boys or something. I actually do agree that you should just let go though. Don't settle an argument over a videogame unless the argument is on TeamLiquid.

Not if you believe in the heart of the cards.
I don't really agree with everyone saying you should just back away if it bothers you that much tho. Next time stop caring or if you do care, challenge them right away. Dont come asking the internets for help first.

I like this idea of a mathematical approach. It's based in science.
If we give the other 2 players a value, n (for noob lol) and designations, a and b, then we can clearly see, thx to
that x < diamond skill level. You literally can't lose, it's science.

It's people like you that make me lose any hope on humanity. Screw the unicorns, those 2 noobs must be owned.
I remember playing a 2v1 with some noobie friends, owning them on vanilla sc Tv2P. Most crazy thing i did was 1v4 same both noobies with 2 more even worse, it was more like a 1v3, the 4th guy was like he only played minesweeper on his whole life. Lost, but took 2 of them, though the terran lift off and started again somewhere else. Anyway mutas owned my 3 expoed hatchs lings all-in. Games where you're outnumbered, normal build orders don't gonna cut it since there's a disadvantage until you manage to take them off to 1v1. Gotta relay on early agression and baller micro, since they're noobies, should be easy outmicro them. Bad thing sc2 has no vults nor muta micro
My point is, don't listen to this bunch of pussies. Satisfaction by accomplishing inner challenges is one of the greatest things on life. If you lose, there's no shame, they were on the advantage since the beginning. If they pretend to brag about winning a 2v1, they will be just hurting themselves.

That assessment is accurate, but I don't agree with the conclusion. You could get a 3v3 team out of this
Like most previous posters said, you don't gain anything from this and it will just be a waste of time and effort on your part. Why not just play with them and slowly guide them to become better players? That way you can gain future practice partners instead of people who think you're a douche as well.

No way. These jerks have inadvertently walked into CheAse's area of expertise, and the tables have turned. It's time for CheAse to flex his "muscles" and put them in their place like he's been constantly thinking about.
Best part about this thread is that OP is clearly in a no-win situation. I demand more Trip Report action.
Furthermore, The least not-win type win, is to leverage money on your skills. Bet them a large amount of money, and then treat them like retards when they don't understand what you mean by Escrow when you refuse to play them until they've put it in the hands of someone you both trust.
If they don't, you can tell them that if they had a pair, they would take your bet.

QFT. Especially if you come back at them later and revisit the same conversation it just shows that you uh, well, thought about it for a long time and posted about it on the internet before working yourself up enough to come try to show them what's up. Not a winning frame.
I think everyone here has been in similar situations lots of times. My advices goes like this:
The thing you don't like about them is them being cocky. It's not them being noobs, it's them being cocky. Because hey, being a noob and not knowing about stuff is not a bad thing. The bad thing is being a noob and pretending to know stuff.
So if you want to show them, don't be cocky about it because then you're gonna be just like they are. Because you're a noob too you know - well at least compared to me you are. Anyway, just talk to them about it in the least cocky way possible and then prove your point with a match which you then proceed to win convingly, but not in a humiliating way.
Ok, this blog is totally awesome: A Combat-ex smurf was maybe revealed, we are writing a movie-script for the SC2 version of KarateKid, and we argue how to punish gold-newbies who don't give enough fuck and like to talk to girls. And we are just five pages in.

He cares because anyone who insists that '3v3 is harder and more competitive than 1v1' is not only completely ignorant and oblivious to reality of competitive StarCraft, but is also not a very skilled player if they use their performance in a team game as an indication of 1v1 prowess. Furthermore I fully envision these two as the 'assholes' of the class so to speak, who simply run their mouth all the time and act like they are 'the shit' or something like that. I've seen many of these type of people, and the only way to get them to shut the fuck up is act like a big dick and put them in their place. Someone has to do it, or they will keep acting that way.
This op has nothing to do with sc, it has to do with you not being "popular". Well i have some good news for you, in about 3/4/5 years you will get out of school and graduate college.
Your going to be offered multiple jobs starting at 50 grand 60.. etcetc.. at right about the same time those "popular kids" will start community college because they dropped out when they were 18 because they were too "cool" for school.
Their life will begin to spiral downward while your life is just getting started. Just be patience you and you will get what your deserve.

It's been explained many times. Basically, Hovz drove to Nextels house and punched the fuck out of him while his mother watched.
It must be pretty handy to be able to mask your own inadequacies by envisioning anyone you disagree with as a demonic figure void of worth. Wish I had that ability but I heard some people can get addicted and end up becoming weird recluses with no social skills so i'll steer clear for now.

And don't let Chill's comment get you down. Humbly challenge them and kick their asses, if you think it will make you feel better. On a slightly less related note, not all the 'dudes' who make dirty jokes and try to impress people get the girls actually succeed in getting the girls. I think Chill often assumes that the people who make these blogs are shy ugly nerd people with no social lives, when in fact they may be handsome intelligent nerds with hot girl friends who get laid all the time, (of course the former is probably more likely to be true, but I know quite a few who fit the latter category too).
The OP is about to feel the wrath of the double-hustle. Spoiler alert! They are actually top-level diamond terran players, and would smash OP 1v1 so easy. They are just waiting for him to place the bet. Whatever you do, don't accept the double or nothing bro.

And what do you think CheAse is? Bottom level diamond? Last I checked he's one of the best Toss in NA. Hell, those kids could be HuK and qxc and he'd still stand a shot.

looks like someone is a little bitter about high school?
Challenge them, their girlfriends, and additional insane AIs to a 7v1. Then beat them, get drunk, and drive into the sunset with all the girls and fame.
I bet he would easily do that. Unable to break out of gold is like the equivalent of being a stone age retard.
Nice post.
At the OP: just remember that being a diamond leaguer indicates your superiority over the lower strata of the human race. In fact, what league you are in SC2 is the sole determinant of your intelligence, life prospects, moral fortitude, and sexual performance. No need to make friends with them; they'll be pumping gas for you one day.
For you are soaring above in your Ferrari fueled by rainbows in the ~diamond league~, and they are mere mortals, nay, stone-age retards in the unwashed masses of gold.

Let it go, read some books about talking to chicks and not getting tooled by other guys (yeah, seriously, Neil Strauss is a good place to start), and in a month or so you'll laugh to yourself about how you wanted to prove to them that you are sooo gosu, and that talking to girls is sooo lame.

Now the question is should I tell them they are noobies and put them in their place.
by the way, they are like gold in all of their leagues.

lots of better people(don't mean skill) to play team games with.
I mean you could just 2v2 them with 1 of ur friends and win 100% of the time instead of probably winning a 1v2 and just do some absurd pub stomp strat. Plus it would be a lot easier to initiate a 2v2 instead of a 1v2.
When I started reading this, I had no idea why it was featured, but this turned out more entertaining than I thought.
@OP: I'd advice you to just let it go. Getting in somebody's throat for thinking they're good at a video game (also, you know, talking to girls and stuff) just makes you seem petty and desperate.
But, for the sake of entertainment, go for it! Put them in their place! Just remember to stream/post VODs/replays
lol, you should 1v1 or 1v2 em and stomp their faces in. That's what i did he kept talking shit about how i suck and how he'd stomp any zerg and i sure showed him. We still play every once in a while and i still 2-0 him in a bo3 lol

LOFL. Chill's advice is perfect if this is any normal class, and they are casual players just casually talking about the game. Of course Chill is right - you'd look like a toolbag idiot to want to crush them so bad or even give them any attention.
But...and if I'm right on this...if it's a computer science type of class, and these dipshits think they are the king nerds there...chease needs to unleash holy hell upon them, and make some free money in the process. And this time it's for all the chease.
On September 29 2010 06:16 Entertaining wrote: their probably diamond rank pros considering their playing sc2. a 2v1 is not going to work. also why do u care if they think their good lol
Totally agree. These "douchebags" need to be "put in their place" so to say -- and CheAse is the man to do it. Bomb them back to the bronze league. If anything CheAse, do it for SichuanPanda who's seen too many of these king nerds "ruining his shit." I don't see what good it would bring even if you did win and put them in their place. Because if they are who you say they are, they will probably just be like, "lol ur such a nerd, ur only good cuz u play so much, u have no life" and you won't even have a good retort to the statement.

Hahah, yea, that's what I was thinking. Not really worth the trouble. Choose your battles, and choose them wisely. This ain't worth the trouble any more, at least not an immediate, loud one. If it ever comes up in the future? Like Chill said, hold your position, but be humble.

If they pretend to brag about winning a 2v1, they will be just hurting themselves.

so they are bad at starcraft. so they think they are good. exactly as chill said, they are just having some fun. So either leave them alone or you could try to show them up in something that they probably dont give a shit about, and you will just end up looking like a complete douche in the process. What happens if you beat them? did you really 'put them in their place'? most likely as i said, they wont really care and continue doing their thing, or they will just call you a 'nerd who plays video games all day long'.

I have to agree here. Not only will the two "douchebags" play you off as some nerd with no life, you will also have lost two possible SCII buddies.
Why is everyone inserting this "getting back at them" or "whether it's worth the trouble" or "if it's a good battle," questions?
Just find some way to get them in a 2v2 for money and win. Then it's worth it clearly, no ambiguity. The only question is how to minimize the possibility of them dodging. Or if they see diamond on your account, they might not do it.

Here's what you do. It's halloween soon so go the store and get yourself a cape. cover it in elmers glue and sprinkle glitter all over it so it shines like the night sky.

You should definitely tell them they are newbs and have no idea what they are talking about. Say it with a straight face. Don't be shy. They're dbags and should be treated as such. Whenever I hear somebody talk a big game about halo, I mention how newbish it is to play a fps with a control stick. Elitist? Yes. Should you call out a newb who thinks they're the shit? Yes.

Omg, they appeared bravely to accept the challenge. Didn't even consider to 1v1, which is pointless since doesn't require any skills, they call it directly on a 2v1 to demonstrate their pro status. To make it worse they add the orbital sum of 1000$. They are way ahead on the mindgames now...

Edit: Like everything about this situation shows you've already lost. Considering only talking to girls a negative thing. Having a legitimate point against them but being shut down. Not standing up for yourself and your point and favouring avoiding argument.
Just let this one go man, you've already lost.
I think it's negative, you basically just shut down his every motive to even try to convince them lol which is funny. Yes I do agree.
Why has nobody given recognition to this epic post? This is clearly the answer to all of the OP's problems.
Good god this is the best feature ever.

This had better be streamed.
I feel like it should be with a left ally, isn't it just impossible to defend some cheeses in a straight up 1v2?
Although maybe not since some people say having a leaving ally is so good it's an exploit cause you can rush so fast. So maybe ally leaves after making SCVs up to 11 or something.
Dude if these guys are gold they probably know enough to cheese the TC to death. Even D players like myself in BW know how to do stupid tactics with an ally to win 2v1 against an opponent who is 9000% better than us.
1 guy will just 6pool while the other guy gets a bunch of marauders. Or maybe one guy will muta rush while the other guy masses marauders again.

Nah, haven't watch it but I'd sure like to see any pro beat double cheese. How hard is it in SC1 to beat a double 4 or 6 pool?
Also, I wouldn't mind if you elaborated either on possible techniques to beat the aforementioned cheese.
I've only seen one 2v1 match before and that was 2 random no name players (don't know what rank though, probably B or C) vs Tossgirl, and they owned her.

Its doable. I played a 4v4 last night where I got triple 10 pooled when I 14 pooled and none of my allies helped. Was able to hold it off and still have a few drones + queen left, my allies then proceeded to destroy the underdroned zergs. I probably wouldn't have won if it was 1v3 but I could imagine 1v2 working out.
So here you are, a humble diamond player minding your own business eating your cornflakes when SURPRISE!!! Some obnoxious asshole starts mouthing off some ignorant shit. This is where my handy system of social espionage comes into play.
By following these simple steps, you will quickly have any mouthbreathing dickhurt thinking twice before they say stupid shit around you again.
1. Identify.
This step is the most important step. It is really less about the process of humiliating said ignorant cuntwaffle, and more about insuring yourself against being a jackass. Analyze what your target said carefully. Make sure that what they are saying is in fact ignorant nonsense, and not simply a misunderstanding on your part. The last thing you want to do is be a self righteous shithead who has no idea what he's talking about.
2. Compose
"If you know your enemy, and you know yourself, you need not fear the result of one hundred battles." -Dracula
Choose your introduction into the conversation carefully. A common introduction might be
Self Righteous Deusche (you): "Excuse me gentlemen, but I could not help overhearing your palaver. Do you fancy yourselves Starcraft players?"
Ballin Ass Daddy Pimp (terran player(shithead)): "LOL what do you know about SC2 noob!!!!"(notice the excessive use of excessive use of exclamation points this is the sign of a true alfa male, reference below) http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/blogitems.php?site=disciple&page=4
3. Humility "Speak softly, but carry a big stick" - Bill Cosby
The most important thing to remember in this part of the conversation, is that you are trying to establish a humble image to imply to your prey that you are not a very good starcraft player, and goad him into flaunting his great skillz even further.
SRD: "Oh im not anything special, I play the game with friends mostly."
BADP: "Yeah, I'm talking about mass marines. YOU PROBABLY WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND" (caps lock is known by industry professionals to be cruise control for cool)
4. Call the Bluff "I know what you're thinking right now... did I shoot five bullets or six?" Harriet Tubman
After you have allowed your sociopathic companion to boast to the point where you want to give him a friendly tap of the testes, resist, and instead drop a suddle comment questioning the god like masculinity of your opponent. The snaring of the trap is the most important part of the catch, DO NOT let that fucker back down now.
SRD: "I'm not really sure that putting reapers in your bio-ball is a profitable investment." If he continues to Boast: BADP: "Yeah, I don't know man I'm pretty good at SC, I know what I'm talking about."
SRD: "Perhaps we should play a game then. So I could learn of your great ways?"
If he tries to back down:
BADP: "Yeah, I mean I can see why you would think that but it works pretty well in GOLD LEAGUE!"
SRD: "Actually, I think that in all of my time playing Starcraft, I've never heard a comment that was half as stupid as what you just suggested. In fact, you are a dumb sack of shit, and I could beat you and your friend with my left hand while my right is wrist deep in your mother's anus.
BADP: "......"
SRD: "Of course if you're not up to the challenge you can pussy out."
5. Dehumanize
At this point you must undress your opponents humanity. You are not trying to defeat another human at Starcraft, you are a man grasping an insect in mid flight and gracefully exstinguishing it's life. Your only goal in life is to outperform this individual so vastly, that they will never cross you again.
6. Bring Down the Thunder "The tigers of wrath are wiser than the horses of instruction." - Donald Trump This step should be obvious. Out produce, outplay, and outsmart your opponent like he was a plat league cheese player. Dont be afraid to scout him a 9 supplies and keep your gatherer in their base, losing to bs is not an option for you.
7. Humiliate "Justice is revenge. " -The Pope
Depending on which branch of the choose you're own adventure your opponent chose, there are two different ways to resolve this situation.
If he tried to back down, be nice, and give him the gg. Tell him that one day he may be able to play with you again.
If you let him be a deuschebag throughout the entire first half of the process, don't say anything until the next time you see him in class. Then let him know that his girlfriend can find you in the parking lot after 5th period.

Well since you sometimes (rarely) see pros defeat like 8 zerglings controlled by another proffesional using nothing but probes without losing much I wouldn't give two players who actually can't get out of d a snow flakes chance in hell.

oh shit lol
1000 is like D. 1500 is like C-.
Being in diamond is really easy.
Of course 'getting into diamond is easy' compared to iCCup. There were only like 1 A+ a couple A's and and A-'s a hundred or so B's in iCCup a season. 2 million people play SC2 and 7% of them are in Diamond. This means that ~70,000 people are in diamond around the world. Compare that to iCCup where only 100 people in the world were B or better. If B.net 2.0 were like iCCup NA would have no A's, no A-'s and maybe a couple of B+'s. Everyone else would be B or lower.

While you're right about it being easier to get into diamond than the high ranks on iCCup, none of those iCCup numbers are even a little bit right. :/
I guess maybe now that sc2's been out and stole all the bw players, I havent noticed in a while.
Edit: Unless you just mean foreigners, then those numbers could be about right, dunno.
This reminds me of the time when I was in the warcraft 3 beta. Word got around that I was in the beta and these 3 kids from a *different* school came up to me while I was at work and told me I was probably undeserving of the beta because I sucked.
I told them if they could beat me 3v1 in warcraft 2, they could have the beta key. I stomped them easily. I became good friends with them afterwards. Good times.
What the hell is all this drama about? Seriously, when you talk to one of the best NA players in the world, I don't care who you are (you could be Obama), you shut up and take a seat when StarCraft II is mentioned. Anyone who doesn't is overly cocky and should be dismissed as such without all this unneeded drama.
Which also means: I would definitely like to see some replays. Unneeded drama might suck, but it sure is fun to watch.

Allright! Now the outcome of this does not matter, i'll have fun either way.
Be a man. Do 1v1's against them, or find a different friend to do 2v2's against them.
This reminds me of this one time where I heard three kids in my class walking in and talking about bunker leapfrogging is the best strategy (bw). After watching two of them play against a computer for 50 minutes, I figured that I could challenge them. So I 1v3'd them, gave them shared vision and I won by a landslide.
I don't have any replays though, the games were played on school computers D:

You're totally off topic haha, but i'd say from people i know that used to play brood war and now play sc2, anything from D through A+ = Diamond lol. Back on topic, Challenge them gogo!! And it doesn't have to be a mean thing (although feel free haha :D) you could just play for fun too though.
I don't have class with them until Monday, but i will update with replays or a possible stream if this thing goes down.
As for the earlier questions if I'm actually "good". I think I'm decent but nothing special. Out of the top 100 players currently, ive played 36 of them and beat 23 of them before ( doesn't mean it wasn't like 1-50 ratio but hey its still something)
I've also been on every top 200 except for this week. I've been getting a lot worse because of school, and I had to send back my video card.

man i am now emotionally invested in your quest barry. Kick them noobs and make a new bonghole appear. Team bawd, holy shit, jesus and mary !!!
Btw i loled hard at that Dracula quote. Actually my uncle played soccer with Dracula in Transilvania back in the day(check it, im from Romania so i know what im talkin about), and you kinda misquoted the man. He actually said: "If you know your enemy and you know yourself, why battle?" True story, trust me.
The problem withe the SC2 to Iccup comparison is that the majority of the people that played 1v1 on Iccup probably did so because they really wanted to ladder. With SC2, it's really not even comparable.
Quite simply, own their fucking faces bro. Show no mercy. Gouge their eyes out and skullfuck them. Whatever is necessary to show them that you are the ALPHA MALE™.
This blog touches on way to many socials issues that one day I can only hope to understand, and thus only one answer shall suffice; in pace, ut sapiens, aptarit idonea bello

its just a stupid subtle way of injecting your "bw is way harder than sc2 and the superior game" opinion into everything, and its really frustrating.
IdrA has what? 2000 points? less? what does that make him them in your ranking, if a gold player is D and a 1500 diamond is C-? a C+?
No. He was A+.

Two points. The first is that when you watch the first OSL finals, (Grrr.. and H.O.T._Forever) you realize that if you played in that tournament with your current skill, you would win the entire thing. It's completely probable that, even adjusting for the increased RTS skill that many of these gamers have, even the OP will be at Idra's current level in some amount of time.
Secondly, it really seems that Sc2 while there are quite a few divisions for "bad" players, there is only one division for "average" to "excellent" players. So while IdrA who hit A+ in BW is in platinum, so are a host of random people, some of whom are bound to have been D- players. Eventually, you might expect the player pool to spread out more evenly, but it seems like nobody quite understands the Sc2 ranking system, so unless you start losing points drastically at upper platinum, it may not.

It doesnt mean that one or the other is superior game or harder game. It just means people who played on Iccup usually knew that game much better than average diamond leaguers know sc2. Which makes a lot of sense when you just compare the ages of the games.

you definitely have to stream this if it's possible
I talked to my friends in the goatshow, and they said they would stream it
You're right, i really should have said something, but i couldn't think of anything to say at the time that wouldn't sound like " i'm better than you so i know better".
I haven't told them i''m any good at all, I'm assuming that they think I'm bad since they were telling me how to learn to play.
On a side note, i'm in computer information batcholer program. You don't want to see any of my female classmates naked.

He didn't shove anything in their face if you actually read his post. All he did was attempt to add some input on a matter that he knew vastly more about and those 'college bros' acted like asshats and told him he didn't know shit. Furthermore, you referring to CheAse as a nerd but not the other two is hilarious since all three of them are in the same class.

Lol you guys are insane. Let me give you two analogies which you are trying to defend:
1. Two people talking about the golf round they just had. They "torn it up." You, a good amateur golfer, overhear the conversation. After discovering they were playing on the local course (EGADS) and using improper out-of-the-rough technique, you quickly explain who you are and how they are playing wrong. Shockingly, rather than accepting your advice, they are rude and wonder why you are talking to them.
2. Two people are carrying a basketball, about to play 21. After seeing that they aren't that good, you randomly show up to challenge them to a 2v1. Shockingly, rather than accepting your bold challenge, they don't give a fuck and tell you to fuck off.
This isn't how the real world goes. You don't bust into games of 21 and challenge kids for their honour; You ask if you can play too and then show them you're good. Why am I even explaining this it's fucking common sense.

Neither of those analogies fit. A better analogy would be like volleyball. You are someone who plays on a professional twos team and are in a class with two guys who are preaching about how much harder sixes is. You then try to join the conversation and offer your input that you feel twos is harder and they laugh at you and tell you that you have no idea wtf you are talking about.
But it's cool because you've helped to hype this up to the point where it's going to be hilarious.
lol chill, I had the exact same kind of post written out yesterday, but I thought to myself, "is it even worth it?" Then I figured if you're 23 yrs old and you still don't get it, then ... yeah ... =T
Reminds me of this weird scrawny kid in middle school summer camp who would passive aggressively and awkwardly ask to play ultimate frisbee with us. He acted all high and mighty like he was the god of frisbee, but the truth was he just took himself wayyyy too seriously and charged at people like his whole life was at stake. Then one day he straight up tackles my friend for the frisbee, we're all like, WTF this kid who does that -- then to our shock, the kid has my friend in a solid rear-naked choke hold (no joke) and my friend's face is all red, eyes fluttering, and we're like OH SHI-. We run over to wrestle the kid off him before he loses consciousness (the choke cuts off blood supply to your brain so you can pass out in seconds, literally), and the kid just stands up, brushes himself off, then walks away like it was nothing and ignores us yelling at him. The very next day, the kid has the audacity to walk up to us, I remember this so clearly, he says outloud to no one in particular "The teams are 6 vs 7, you need a 7th person." Serious, guy? Seriously?
Obviously none of us here are that kid, but it kinda scares me what kind of fantasy land some people here live in...

I can see how you could assume that by what you read. It can be hard to understand what the situation is if you weren't here, and more so because I explained it poorly.
Let me make this clear, I didn't come out of the blue and randomly challenge them to something just because i'm better. You may not believe me, but i'm not socially retarded. These guys are classmates and I simply tried to give some helpful input, then they arrogantly assumed i was terrible.
I'm sure all of you have met people like these. They think they are more valuable then everyone else and deserve special privileges. They think they can cut in front of you while driving because they are more important. They think they are better at everything.

Not this time.

That's right CheAse -- it's your time. Don't listen to the naysayers; they only wish they had this opportunity. It's time to draw a line in the sand and take a stand for what's right. These entitled douchebag gold-leaguers have been the bane of nerds forever and everywhere, and they have got to be taught a lesson. They'll cut in front of you, they'll kiss your boss' ass and get promoted over you, they'll steal your girl... Knocking them over in dodgeball isn't enough. It's time to buy an AR-15 and shoot up the whole school challenge these fools to some Starcraft.

I've only read the first two pages of the thread so I hope nothing earthshattering has happened in your quest yet. If it's already resolved this is some general advice I can give to people having similar feelings:
Don't bother with it, it's impossible to enlighten ignorant people like that and in the end you'll just end up looking like a moron. Once I tried to tell some uni mates of mine about a weapon in MW2 (which I only bought out of horrible desperation for some entertainment ). I presented them actual damage charts and such to them, to which they basically responded with "hey man, we're on our second prestige playthrough and you are only level XY, we know better". Which is basically the same as someone telling you he's the bomb at SC2 because he has more portraits unlocked than you. They were also horrible players.

Ok really...this thread is 16 pages long and is featured. Surely if there's a thread you should read all the way through before posting, it's a featured blog 16 pages long. Chances are...SOMETHING important happened later on. Blog's don't get to 16 pages by people posting "5/5 cool read."
I had a similar situation earlier in my life (I was 13) where i beated some guy at starcraft 1 who said he was '' the shit '' at school. I decided to play him, in fact we played 3 games. After winning them all I decided to watch the replays, because I feld something was fishy in his playing. Well guess what, he hacked. So, the day after that I went to school and told everybody how bad i beated that hacker. IMMEDIATLY after that, girls were around me, my penis lenght went past the 7 inch mark and this guy NEVER had any success with girls, in fact, he turned out in a homo right after.
So you SHOULD play them and tell everybody how bad they are after you win, life just get soooo much better and your opponents will turn homo's.

I guess womens doesnt quite concern him if he is homo, right. On the other hand good for you..
Here's what you do man. You challenge them to a 2v1, play terran, wall off and nuke rush. Then you go nuke their bases and offensive gg. It's foolproof!
I completly think you should put them in their place. I have friends who thought they were so good at SC:BW and asked what races/league etc they played. And they told me they were #1 on Fastest US East. So i was like wtf? How can you possibly think you are the best at fastest. But anyway it was just pathetic to hear them. Maybe they're good at their custom but the real competition is true 1v1 ladder. They also did lots of 3v3 BGH wich is even more pathetic in my opinion. Challenge them in some bo3 or bo5 because god knows they will cheese to death rofl.

anyways GL OP, put them in their place for not playing a video games as much as you and talking to girls and telling jokes! In fact, do it every time someone brags about being good at a video game. There was this 13 year old kid down the street playing hop skotch and I overheard him talking about how good he was at Mario Kart. I didn't have the balls to tell him I would destroy him because I thought it might come off weird since I'm 36.

Just let this one go man, you've already lost.
I think it's negative, you basically just shut down his every motive to even try to convince them lol which is funny. Yes I do agree.

CheAse, if you want a Gold 1v2 practice partner, I can be one of the two. I am thinking if $1000 is on the line, you ought to really find out if you can beat 2 gold players at once. I'll add you on bnet tonight.
You sir, are correct. CheEse (or however you capitalize his name) didn't do anything rude. He simply heard a conversation about Starcraft 2, a topic he knows something about. He attempted to correct his classmates misapprehension (that 3v3 takes more skill) with an informative fact (that the best players in the world consider 1v1 to be the most important test of skill). That's about as friendly and innocuous as it gets. Anyone who is offended by that or thinks he was a jerk is EXTREMELY sensitive.

But it's cool because you've helped to hype this up to the point where it's going to be hilarious.

Man, you are living in a fantasy land. These are regular bros in a college class, they don't give a shit about whether or not you're amazing at an online video game. They'll certainly talk shit back when a nerd starts fronting for literally no reason, but why in the world should they actually care?
You don't "take a seat" to someone with a skill you don't care about who tries to shove it in your face.

I feel like the chat in this thread is slowing down. I think we need some more feedback from Dream Team (*cough*losers!*cough*) . And establish a game time already. I'm going out of town and dont wanna miss this live. Its the best i've got until bisu returns to form or to sc2.

its just a stupid subtle way of injecting your "bw is way harder than sc2 and the superior game" opinion into everything, and its really frustrating.
IdrA has what? 2000 points? less? what does that make him them in your ranking, if a gold player is D and a 1500 diamond is C-? a C+?
No. He was A+.
Please just actually discuss the topic, instead of trying to talk shit about sc2 players =/ They're different games, must there really be this rivalry between the 2 games? Can't they just both be good? =/
zergs actually a hard race to play though also; bw really is much harder, its a legitimate comparison

I think it's negative, you basically just shut down his every motive to even try to convince them lol which is funny. Yes I do agree.
Have the school set upengineer fantasy world the computers in your local lecture hall.
Like a bat outta hell.
thats the hardest ive lol'd at anything on the net in ages
Oh. My. God. That was hilarious! Im kind of new to TL, and just discovered this blog section. Loving it!
Forget challenging them, just play with them. If you can carry them to glorious victory in 3v3s or w/e after they've been knocked out of the game and it's basically 1v3 vs the internet, you'll be an internet hero.
And less of a jerk.
Approaching it with belligerence will just make them think you're a jerk too.

I remember 1v4ing my friends in college @ sc. Won easily. But they wanted it. They already knew I was way better than them.
I'm sure by this point they know they are going to lose. If they don't they are fools. Either way they wanted it so go ahead and crush them.
Many people are unfamiliar with the skill gaps that are possible in strategy games. They don't realize the levels that those who are serious about self improvement can attain.
(self in regards to the game, of course. it is just a game. but it's also reflective of the person)
I only play a few games decently. They include, Chess, Texas Hold 'Em, SSBM, and Brood War.
When I meet other people who play, I make it a personal point of mine to not say "I'm good at this game," or anything along those lines. Let your game speak for you. If they're worse than you, win gracefully and don't gloat. If they're better than you, lose gracefully and maybe you'll learn something. I met a guy who is like 2300 FIDE ranked in Chess, and he's played some online poker with small winnings (at least he isn't in the red). We're buddies now, and I've learned quite a bit about both from him. I've taught a few people quite a bit about SSBM and Brood War (even though my max rank is D+ LOL!).
You get to show off how awesome you are without looking like an asshole. Everybody wins!

not only in strategy games but any game, or activity for that matter. it is always surprising how good at X people can get, with enough practice.
Assuming that they're actually serious about the 1k, and assuming that they're really nooby with no real macro skills, they should be practicing team super-cheeses to hell. Even the most inexperienced of noobs can quickly grasp the build of a cheesy rush, and most of them can perform the rush with some degree of competence. Not to mention that against a player of your caliber, the chances of them winning will grow slimmer and slimmer as the game progresses into a long macro game, therefore they'd want to end it as early as possible.
The best way to guarantee a 2v1 win against a vastly superior opponent is to practice all possible team cheese combos while racing as random.
Things like 2x 6rax reaper, 2x double in-base 2gate or 1in-base/1outside 2gate, a combo of in-base 2gate & 6rax reaper, cannon rushing with any other cheese, things like that in a 2v1 situation are nearly impossible to stop unless you know before the game that they're going to happen. And if they play as random, you won't be able to know exactly what cheese they are pulling off.
Even if they aren't randoming, and you know their races beforehand, any 2v1 rush they throw at you will still be hard to defend. From my experience of 1v2s, the best chance of fending off these team rushes are to use toss and go for a fast defensive cannon rush + a secret expo if you get the chance. Try playing on a map where a minimum number of cannons will cover all of your min line and other cannons. If you survive any rushes they throw at you, you are almost guaranteed to win because their macro will suck big balls afterwards.
im so glad i read right through this thread. i understand your feelings, and i think we all know what must be done...crush these noobies where they sit

OT: I once had a similar situation. Someone who wanted to make a move on my gf cought that I play BW. He then startet talking to a friend, loud so that we could hear it, that he won all big LANs for BW in the last years and that the game is so easy for him that he would beat anyone. I walked over to him, said "hello" very friendly and asked for his name and that I came across he was a big SC gosu. He smiled and told me about his winnings etc. I asked him whom he met in the finals of the last big event he played in and thats it. He didnt know what to say and his smile disappeared. I just walked back to my friends and talked about other things than SC, showing him that I dont care about what he did. When he was drunk later the day, he started offending me in the crowd which shows me that he must have felt really bad. I silently enjoyed and ignored him completely. Now that I think about it... Maybe I shlould have replied to him with a sad face after our conversation...
Dont waste too much time on people like this. If you dont want to be friends with them anyways, it doesnt matter what they think about you. If they dont stop trashtalking to you, ask them for a game and win. If they stop, dont hink about them anymore

I challenged him to a BO3 soon after, and the entire class was watching us.
He never ever spoke of starcraft ever again. Best day ever.

It was sc2 launch day, 12 midnight, I waited in line on the local gamestop store. 2 guy were talking behind me, and I couldn't help myself but the line "i was in korea playing as a pro" captured my attention. I turn around and see if I recognize them, because I don't know any one from Washington state has ever been to korea as a pro. Of course I didn't recognize them at all, but I was enjoying their talk about how the "pro" supposely had to deal with all the map hackers over battle.net. I was laughing my ass off, but i didn't feel the need to make myself feel better by putting the "pro" down. After all I destroyed Chill and Kennigit in a 1vs2 and still jerk off to that replay every night.
oh my fucking god, this was so awesome. Thank you for this actually happening, I was laughing so hard listening to goatrope's cast. Did they ship you the $100?
