So I just finished a really stupid ladder game where a BM Terran flew buildings all over the map to delay his defeat. He kept building command centres (I think I killed 12 or 13 total). I know some of you have experienced this.
Now, I play as Terran, so I built sensor towers all over the map until I tracked down every building with my 200 army with like 20 vikings. The game took an hour, but it was over after 13 minutes really. Now I have a couple of questions for you:
1. Is there anything I could have done other than scan everywhere, use sensor towers and scout with my vikings?
2. What do you do in this case if you're NOT Terran?! If you can't scan or build sensor towers? I mean, I guess if you're Zerg you can send overlords all over the map but....
I hope I'm not missing some stupid thing I could have done...

Zerg can also build creep tumors to spread vision. Protoss has phoenixes which are cheap, fast to build and very fast moving. I'm surprised it took you that long to gain complete map control.
|
Usually when that happens you are in a winning situation so you can send out 1 cheap unit to each expo like a marine.

It was Kulas Ravine and he was hiding flying buildings in corners/sides of the map etc, plus obviously it's a giant map.
Also, it was awhile before I started building sensor towers everywhere. I kept finding little towns of his and killing them. It was some time before I realized I was just going to have to check every inch of the map. I may actually watch the replay to see if there was any funny business going on, because he seemed pretty adept at avoiding my sensor tower range. It wasn't until I literally covered the entire map that I found everything.

You build air, scout, and go kill them. What is complicated about that? Unless you think you can convince him to leave, there's nothing else to do really. This is ridiculous. Unless you have like 10 apm, it should take no more than 10 minutes from the moment he lifts his buildings. Split up your army and kill off his SCVs first of all, then hunt down the buildings. If he has multiple buildings no need to keep your army together, split it up and find all his shit asap.
|
Lol his macro must have been bad if he lost and still managed to have stockpiled enough for 12 CCs
|
Well if he's lifting and moving everywhere, just expand everywhere, and eventually he will have nowhere to land. =D
Also, if you need to keep vision of certain areas, send 1 scv or marine (or some cheap unit that you don't mind losing) to each expo location.
|
dont worry about it, honestly. Just play out your game, dont let BM crap like that get to you. Some people just can't take losing, and honestly that sucks for them-i don't know why some people rage when they lose a game, rather than addressing what they did wrong and what they shouldve done better.
there is little you can do about it, just make sure you have a nice air force, and put an scv at every mineral patch, while flying around with vikings/banshees/etc. it shouldn't really take more than 5-10 extra minutes to hunt down all his CCs.

Thanks Grobyc. I'm very new to the game. Obviously next time I'm going to be able to do it a lot faster, I was just looking for input/comments.

Haha yeah I think for the first little bit he was landing and mining when possible until I started gaining more map control.

Yeah I started doing that too, which got me most of his buildings other than the ones that were flying around in non-expo places.

Yeah it's not a huge deal, I wasn't in a rush He kept saying "I can't afford to lose". I kept saying "but you're going to lose". What was funny was that the only thing I said to him was "GL" at the beginning, and then "come on man" after about 20 mins. He said he was prolonging it because "I was being a dick" :-/

by the way: you can control every of your 20 vikings seperately. You absolutely do NOT need to and especially SHOULD NOT group all vikings into one ball, then try to find every single building and then fly the whole group to those buildings. Just spread your 20 vikings over the whole map, then this can be done in 10 minutes.

haha. i love that terran building float BM is so prevalent now that we have threads and strats for dealing with it... whenever i ling rush as soon as i think i'm gonna win against a terran i rush to mutas just in case he floats!

I was not aware of this. Thanks.

Yeah I wasn't using them individually, but in small groups. I had to use my ground army a lot too because he had built missile towers all over the place. He kept building engineering bays. I kept wondering how he had all this money, he must have saved up haha.

I always enjoy killing these kind of players. Usually I'd just attack each building with one marine and sometimes or build turrents around floating buildings just to force him to react.
|
no idea how if a game ended after 15 minutes, he built 13 command centers after he decided he lost? but i'd do 1 marine at each base so he can land, and just a quick sweep with ur vikings on the edges will find em pretty much

Yeah he was also putting supply depots and stuff up on those "divider" high-ground ledges etc. He had a medivac which took me awhile to find. It must have been transporting his SCV's around lol.

I remember back in WC3, people did this to me often.
I usually just build a bunch of Flying Machines (which has the tiniest damage; but extremely cheap), quickly scan the map over and find all of his buildings, then attack each building with one FM only. Then I just wait as my opponent dies in agony.

How the hell could it have taken more than 1O minutes to kill everything? Just spread your units to make sure he cant build anything and make vikings..
|
/facepalm
Are you joking? No map is large enough that you can't finish him off in a matter of minutes with a 200 food army.
