For one it has helped me with not really multitasking per say, but looking at things from different perspectives and using other methods to assessing my situation. I find that there are times where I panic less on exams should I hit that hard question that crushes my momentum. On the other hand, playing SC is like grinding in school, you get better by playing it a lot. However, if you have a set amount of time in a day, grinding more in SC means grinding less for school, which is always a detriment. I can just imagine the amount of things I can learn if I didn;t play. The reason I still play though is that it is for more relaxation and occasionally playing competitively. Regardless, playing starcraft for long periods of time will not help with school in the long run. As for the person bitter about school.... dude what tests do you write? Most of my exams are not just memorization but hardcore application questions that combine multiple ideas together. Those are challenging and hard to study for but it seems more relevant. Besides, in order to advance you have to grind out facts so that you can apply them in future work. So its destined to happen in schools.

Also this doesn't relate to this topic 100% it's just something I used while in first year Calculus. That's right except you flipped the rows. Still funny though lol. I don't think sc makes you a better student, just that the way you go about getting good at sc is the same as pretty much anything else. The key is motivation, if someone is motivated they can learn anything.

However, the approaches used to get better in StarCraft share some similarities with studying. For instance, learning to analytically break things down to fundamental parts is something you often have to use in school; especially in classes like physics, math, programming, etc. Also, the grinding needed to get better; such as dealing with big losing streaks, massgaming, reading tons of strategy, and so on probably helps teach you mental discipline as well as focusing over long periods. I don't know about you, but I find a 10+ game StarCraft session leaves me a bit worn down mentally, and if I don't really focus I can easily get sloppy and end up practicing shitty play, which is never a good thing.

edit: trying to mix SC play time and study time doesn't usually go too well, don't get me wrong. I believe there are some instances where it would be beneficial though(see example above).

In the end, it comes down how much time you put into everything. Sure, having good methods can flatten the learning curve, but if you aren't constantly testing yourself, putting in the time as often as possible, then even the best methods will fall to people who just put in the time.

I think a lot about SC stuff and as a result I'm dying hard in precalculus (AGAIN, since I failed last year when I was trying to get to WCG).

Maybe we can use Delayed Gratification to motivate us to study? Ex. No more Day 9's till I get this paper done and I nail all of my exams!

Starcraft fucked with my ability to concentrate on class. I started playing SC more seriously during my sophomore year and my GPA is dirt poor and now I'm headed to community college. My mechanics in SC went up while my work ethic in school went waaaay down.
