Hey guys,
I've been traveling Europe for about two months now, and I'm going to Oslo tomorrow. I don't really have a place to stay: hostels are pretty booked (or expensive), hotels equally expensive, and I'm prolly going to be camping outside or something (will have to get a tent first). If anyone is interested in housing a homeless Canadian wanderer, let me know (PM please).
If you want to know more about my travels, thelittleteddy.blogspot.com is a good starting point.
Cheers,
Michael

There's a rather cheap hostel (Sentrum Pensjonat) in a street called "Tollbugata" about 300 m from the railway station. Just try your luck there, they've got a lot of rooms.

good luck lol if you decide to camp outside then you have to watch out for romanians, homeless people have complained about romanians robbing them. :D if you're tenting then prolly best to do it somewhere around nordmarka or at least in the western part of town, otherwise you'll risk being waken up by junkies or whatever, oslo is pretty ridiculous narcotics wise.

Why would anyone rob a homeless person!?!?

o shiet. I was planning to trip quite far out of town and set up there. Apparently you can camp anywhere that isn't farm/private property and like ~10km out of Oslo there are quite a few free places where it's even nice to camp. Is this true?

homeless people have small amounts of money they gather and they have their stuff too, so they can get robbed. I on the other hand have a laptop, camera, cash and clothes, so I'm absolutely FUCKED.

if you camp a good distance outside oslo I would expect it to be safe, and yea you should be allowed to camp basically anywhere not fenced in / obviously someones garden, but I don't think parks there will be safe. (unlike any other norwegian city unfortunately. I'd happily camp in a park in trondheim ;p )

Eri, if I don't make it the day I'm supposed to, please email my mother.

Yeah there are alot of shady places in Oslo, you definately want to avoid the city itself, and camp outside of it. As a rule of thumb, stay west and avoid anything that looks Romanian.

Romanians stealing their irony?

Unfortunately I live a bit far away from Oslo, but glhf to you! Regarding the Remanians robbing people, never heard about it, but I'm not very updated on that stuff. :p Oslo is a crappy town anyway, so it's probably true.

oxygen, gypsies are crafty people. they have their herds of children going around and before you know it, you'll feel a bunch of little hands in all your pockets. Your best bet when you're just walking around is to completely avoid them. Don't stop walking and tell them you don't have money, just completely ignore them and go on your merry way.
I forgot that you're planning on sleeping outside, I think that's the worst thing you can do. I don't see how you won't get your stuff stolen.

I would avoid the whole city if I were you. Probably the worst norway has to offer.

The more I hear about Oslo, the more I hear it sucks. Should have done more research before booking tickets but never really had adequate time. Could anyone recommend somewhere to go near Oslo where I could camp for several days, safely? (max ~200km) What about Bergen? I'm going to Bergen the 20th, though, and from there I'll be pretty safe. Just need a way to survive these 9 days, and I'm not so cheap that I won't get a hotel or hostel for a few days.
