I have a 4 year degree in software engineering from the biggest and best engineering school in Canada. i am not in the engineering profession. I am not in the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario. I'm not in a profession and neither are voice actors. Contrast this with the Electrical Engineers who graduated along side of me. They are in a profession.

There need not be any arbitrary criteria by random people to decide what a real job is. Why do we need to gatekeep this?
random guys are doing it. Chris Metzen, Randy Pitchford, David Eddings. etc etc etc. I am of the opinion that it is a job that requires work and effort. The Voice Actors THEMSELVES were joking about how its not a real job. Not me. Tasteless has said the same thing about his video game commentary... about how he tricked a bunch of people into paying him to talk about video games as he is laughing. So , Tasteless is a guy with his feet firmly planted on the ground. Respect for that.

Ah, so that's how it works! Here, let me try!
You're an idiot of the highest order. I say this given my authority of meeting all the qualifications to be considered a mere idiot, but deciding that I don't identify as an idiot. Given these credentials, I declare on your behalf that you are an idiot of the highest order! Congrats, and you're welcome.
Here's a video of recent MK1 VA comparisons, where the worst performer of it is a 'real professional' in that she's an actor. The rest of them are just casual, unprofessional people with a few spotty one-offs in tv shows and a wealth of voice-acting credits.
The whining by the laid off employees is mundane. Do they think they have a permanent job with the Canadian or US Federal Government? Software jobs are, by their very nature, transient. Have your next job already lined up and insure you have skills that transcend any one job. OR G.T.F.O.
The firm took advantage of the ready availability of investment cash during an era of incredibly low interest rates to go on a decade-long spending spree that saw it acquire dozens of game studios and various other businesses.
The thing to do with interests rate this low is to find a reliable source of income and get a locked in mortgage. what you don't do is join some company leveraged up to their eye balls. And above all, do not listen to the lying, bullshitting corporate recruiters. They are fraud artists. It is like bank robbery in broad daylight and the robbers are not even wearing masks. LOL.
Call me a bleeding heart but maybe the upper level, actual decision makers who fucking budgeted for an investment deal before it was actually signed and sealed should fall on their swords.
Or making acquisitions of previously perfectly stable development studios and closing them subsequently.
There’s having a healthy, pragmatic understanding that things aren’t always ideal in this life, and actively advocating things be as dystopian as possible.

Anyone who thinks fondly of corporate evil like Bobby Kotick certainly warrants mockery.
my perspective is how you survive and thrive in the software development industry.
the fact you fall for the fake Kotick act reveals your lack of knowledge. as i've said before Kelly is the chairman of the board and kotick is his proxy.
the fact you see things in terms of "evil" gave me a nice laugh. you're getting clowned dude.
and i'd like to correct another comment of yours.

Mediagenic had zero video game employees when Kotick and Kelly acquired the Activision brand. Every video game job at Activision was created by them. To be clear Kelly has always owned roughly 4X more than Kotick. The place is run by Kelly. Brian Kelly is the chairman of the board.

Why misquote? The context of me calling you an idiot of the highest order is important to the statement. It's like I was making a point outside of calling you an idiot of the highest order, which is why I chose to respond.

The hardest working, smartest, and most ambitious end up in decision making positions. Their decisions impact lots of people and some people will view them as bad people. Sometimes they are bad people. Sometimes not.
Here is the flow of accountability in a publicly traded company. It starts at 21 minutes.
Bungie upper management can lay off people for only so long. Sooner or later they leave as well. The company Prez can only fire so many "General Managers" and "Vice Presidents". Sooner or later the Prez gets fired.
People have been saying bad things about Destiny2 for years. It is more than a fire at Bungie ... it is an inferno.
Sony is coming for Bungie... we're watching the movie GLen Gary Glen Ross.. play out in real time. Get out your popcorn.
Obviously, this is driving down salaries in the video game industry as its part of the tech sector. The video game industry had 7,000 layoffs. Considering the wider tech sector situation .. 7000 is pretty low. ATVI head count has remained approximately the same. Bobby Kotick did a great job protecting jobs during a very turbulent time for both ATVI and the wider tech sector.
Working in the tech sector I can tell you personally that many employees in the Tech Sector in North America are very lazy. Although the industry is big it is not very competitive. My job/revenue security method is simple. I put 10,000+ hours into a programming language in very wide usage.
People are dropping like flies. All my collegues specializing in MSSQL//C#//Data are just fine. In fact, business is booming. If removed from our current work tasks we can just find other work because we have positioned ourselves to do so. I was stupid enough to make C#//Data the cornerstone of my professional life. Silly me... what a crazy outside-of-the-box decision.
I only work hard about six months out of the year. Of course, it is six months more than the woman in the video.
Any how, this woman badly needs a union. She should be in the UAW.
I wonder how many of the folks higher up the chain carried the can for the (extremely predictable) overexpansion during the artificial market conditions imposed by Covid.
did you guys hear about the horrible human tragedy going on at Bungie? Fortunately, insiders at IGN have revealed the horrific details of the brutal "soul crushing" working conditions. The # of Knitting Lessons and Cooking Lessons have been lowered. Obviously, this is a symptom of the lack of self awareness of both the journo and the employees "leaking" this info. Why even include this in the article? LOL.

hate? it is an observation. it is well known by a large # of people that a large # of people in tech are lazy. you get mainstream comedy skits like this...
i guess all the people laughing at this idiocy are "haters".
hate? it is advice. work your ass off to gain new skills. put in 10,000 hours into 1 skill.
if you are going to be lazy you are very vulnerable when you become one of the 100s of thousands laid off in 2024. OTOH, if you have solid skills and are known as a producer by everyone in your social network you'll get other work quickly because it is really hard to find good people.
Fuck these giant corps... fuck big government... fuck the PR spin. Trust No One. "Bet On Yourself"
Lots of whining and complaining in this thread by many posters. I don't really see anyone offering a course of action for employees in the space. All I see are polemics.

Nothing screams "don't listen to a word I say" more than openly aligning with fascists. My guy isn't even smart enough to keep it to himself.
he looks like a comedy act to me. he doesn't seem serious at all. He makes a hilarious point in this comedy video. A large # of tech sector employees are lazy. I don't know much about the guy. She films herself while crying about a job loss? WTF?
This guy isn't the only one to notice the laziness and bizarre attitudes of tech sector people. OMG, fewer knitting lessons at BUngie... LOL. Let's include that in our list of complaints about how hard the job is.
The tech sector is comedy gold.
Despite 100s of thousands of layoffs in video games and tech ATVI has kept its head count relatively stable. Good work by the leadership at ATVI.
Yeah this makes a lot of sense. I thought Jimmy was just another boomer but being a matt walsh fan checks a lot more of his boxes. He thinks suffering is funny and cruelty is the spice of life. The "fuck big corps" but bootlicking the ones that treat their employees the worst just makes sense to him. Its just really kid of sad how much energy he puts into hate, of all the things you can enjoy doing in life and you chose just being an actively worse person each day.
Every single hater in this thread for whatever reason won't put their money where their mouth is. The biggest factor in all of everything that is wrong with Acti and gaming is most likely rooted in money. You can say X Y Z leadership who ignore sexual harassment and now rush out crappy unfinished games is the problem. You can argue that they should be fired for not firing the guy who sexually harassed other employees, but that dude is really good at pumping out crappy unfinished games. And because 99.99999% of you have bought multiple titles from them in the past few years you support that money making machine, which gladly will ignore any issue you have with anything because they're fucking rich off of it. They sold you SC2 in 3 parts making it a 180 dollar game. Sure there was a little extra story, but you just got suckered into buying an overpriced base game. You've bought the rushed WOW remake, you bought D2R and D3 and despite D3 being a failure you bought D4. You bought that latest rushed COD that is glitchy and overrun by hackers.
You like to complain about it, but refuse to do anything about it. Anyone in a top slot at that company has minimal chance of being fired if they can directly correlate the fact that they spend the least making a video game and generate billions in profits. And negative publicity isn't a deterrant for most people receiving billions in compensation for that publicity.
Trying to justify what someone did because they made a lot of money is a really bad look. No one excuses slavery because it made a lot of people rich and generated a lot of value.
I havn't bought D4 D3 or any cod nor any blizzard title in more than 8 years. Trying to shame people because they have morals and didn't abuse people to make money themselves is just really werid. If I knew then what I know now I wouldn't have spent that money and if I could I would like to refund them because of that. Is there anyway you are aware of that I could put my money where my mouth is in that?

You're misreading the entirety of what I wrote and the comparison to slavery is misleading at best. They're apples and oranges. Nobody is saying it is a justification, just that simply that those who have an issue with what is going on will do absolutely nothing to thwart it. They're going to keep buying up the games, watching the events, supporting their merch sales etc. And there are very few companies in the world generating billions in profit who are going to care about sexual assault/harassment or even more severe issues at their companies when they're receiving billions. And in the end you're funding that system, which reinforces that behavior. Nobody is shaming anyone for not abusing people, if you read it was the fact that they're willing participants in the system that supports those who do.
See like perhaps in slavery time, you might not have had another option other than to buy clothes from a seller who used cotton farmed by slave labor. There simply weren't options. Meanwhile your hobby of playing video games, you not only have other options, but it is a hobby and not a necessity. It is far easier to boycott acti-trash, than it would have been to boycott food and clothing. Your attempt to compare the two leads me to guess you're probably not being truthful about supporting their system. And your last tangent of "because they have morals and didn't abuse people to make money themselves is just really weird" is kind of off. What normal person or even above average is in that same position where billions are on the line and they're in control of a massive corp? Meanwhile it is free and easy to not buy their products, but everyone who suddenly discusses this subject claims to never do just that, but again they still are making billions and always selling more than their past editions.
