From iNcontroL’s Twitter: To offer some solace in this time of grief: We've learned that Geoff passed quickly and painlessly from a blood clot in his lungs. He was with friends. He always urged and led us by example to take care of ourselves to the best of our ability. Remember to do that for him today.

Years ago he was found to have high glicemia/cholesterol due to high carbs/fat intake. Glicemia ends with Diabetees, high cholesterol with stroke. Both are treatable if discovered in time. To develop pulmonary embolism due to a staph infections is at least bad luck. Perhaps we, all, should wake the fuck up and have some better care of our body and mind. We can avoid letting our dear ones in pain after we move on due to some stupid shit mistake that can kill us. As someone who shares common interests with many of you, and the pain of losing this absolute legend far far too soon, I wish to express my condolences. I feel terrible for those of you who knew him personally and were his close friends and family; he must have been a true point of solidarity to you. May he rest in peace.

Had an acquaintance who passed away from a pulmonary embolism a few years back. Was 100% healthy, no past medical history. Turned out he had some sort of pro clotting condition or gene through his family. Doctors said such conditions are uncommon, but not rare and they often go undiagnosed until a major event happens.

Rest in Peace Geoff. You positively affected the lives of so so many, like myself, who never even met you. Thank you for everything, it's so strange to feel such a loss for someone I didn't actually know. My condolences to those who did know him, particularly his close friends and family. Our thoughts are with you all

It's just horrible. Geoff was synonymous with Starcraft for me, especially his work on State of the Game. I can't believe he's gone.

Yet what a fitting consolation it is to see how much iNcontroL's passing is touching everyone in the wider SC2 and esports circle in general. So awesome to tune into various streams and seeing all these people in chat talking about him and honouring his memory. When the news hit the public I was watching PiG's stream and it really touched me how so many said please someone PM PiG so he doesn't have to bear the shock in front of everyone. Then I hopped over to Snute's stream which became an impromptu wake as it was then the only stream running. Over 1000 people just sitting there at times being totally silent together, with Snute so kindly and humbly holding the space open for all us who just didn't know what the F to do with ourselves. I've said it so many times before but man what a beautiful community this is. I myself got into esports at the end of the BW era and eventually discovered TL which I've kept coming back to ever since then. I'm not a competitive gamer, I don't go to events etc., I don't know any of you people IRL. But still, I'm not exaggerating when I say that this community really has helped me through life sometimes. The positivity, the creativity, the kindness....and sometimes just knowing that there are like-minded people out there and that I'm not alone. And even from where I sit, never even having met him in person, it's so clear that iNcontroL was a huge part of this. That he helped all this take shape and stay alive and vibrant through all these years. A life of quality affects far, far more than just that person's own existence, and iNcontroL leaves such a beautiful legacy behind him. So even as someone who's only an online member of the community, thus knowing him more as "iNcontroL" than Geoff, I'm just so grateful for the time we all got with him, and for what he leaves behind. I think he's made all of us better.
