Most of the time, Oliveira was just "there". Slowly progressing through the years, becoming the best player in China, then in Asia-Pacific. Always in the discussion, but never the guy you would name in that elusive S-Tier of Serral, Maru and Reynor. And then he just swoops in and takes the World Championships. Sure, he was supercharged by the universal law that Maru isn't allowed to win a World Cup, but even beyond that, it was one of the greatest upset wins in Starcraft history. Such a great story, such an amazing player. | ||

I agree with the general sentiment, but at the moment it isnt just a decrease, there isn't a single tournament on the horizon. no tour, no world cup, no big sponsors. the only tournaments are going to be a few thousand prize pool max. we are truly in a grass roots era now. | ||

Still, if Stara Zagora was the last 'real' tournament for him, that was a damn fine showing. Thanks for all the memories, including the greatest single run in SC2 history. Right now, people are still in standby mode, but remember that GSL easily got $40k per season for several years. Once it's clear that the scene is on its own, then we'll see the real moves to reorganize the scene and fundraise in the new environment. | ||

The former I mean it’s their livliehood and a straight yes no on an EWC, or IMO more importantly a wider circuit being confirmed or denied would be common courtesy. IF that’s not happening the community can’t pivot to something like the WC3 scene or what you see in BW because who’s going to put in all that legwork if there’s a possibility a regular circuit/EWC pops up and pisses all over your parade. I don’t understand why this doesn’t seem to piss more people off, folks bitched incessantly about Blizzard, moaned incessantly about the Balance CouncilTM, etc etc, years of ‘daedgaem’ doom mongering. Unless there’s some giant about-turn that makes me look silly, SC2 as we know it on the pro level is going to die in a fraction of the time Blizz and the ESL under previous ownership kept it going. It’s almost like having all your eggs in the Saudi Arabian sports washing basket isn’t a good spot to be in | ||
