Sick last game against Clem.

Can't say I didn't see it coming. Thank you for all the great games over the years. Your IEM Katowice win was incredible.

With smart investments you can be set for life with a million, well I don't know about China but in the US certainly take half of that or even 3/4 and invest it in some index funds and watch it grow year by year and live off 250k and you can liquify the yearly profits and have a constant slew of money.

woops wrong topic
best of luck to him

Oliveira had such an amazing career story line. He wasn't a "Wunderkind" like Maru, who won it all with 13. He wasn't like Serral, the guy who smashed everyone the second he went fulltime Pro. Most of the time, Oliveira was just "there". Slowly progressing through the years, becoming the best player in China, then in Asia-Pacific. Always in the discussion, but never the guy you would name in that elusive S-Tier of Serral, Maru and Reynor. And then he just swoops in and takes the World Championships. Sure, he was supercharged by the universal law that Maru isn't allowed to win a World Cup, but even beyond that, it was one of the greatest upset wins in Starcraft history.
Such a great story, such an amazing player.

Sad
With the decrease in StarCraft 2 events, more and more pro-gamer will have to face the situation of retirement.
GL GG.

GL GG. I agree with the general sentiment, but at the moment it isnt just a decrease, there isn't a single tournament on the horizon. no tour, no world cup, no big sponsors. the only tournaments are going to be a few thousand prize pool max. we are truly in a grass roots era now.

Damn, I guess that explains the bleh performances in his last few events. Unfortunate as it is, players almost never get to go out at the top of their abilities in SC2 (or any sport).
Still, if Stara Zagora was the last 'real' tournament for him, that was a damn fine showing. Thanks for all the memories, including the greatest single run in SC2 history.

We'll see what the 'real' amount of money in the scene is if ESL officially announces there's no EPT going forward. Right now, people are still in standby mode, but remember that GSL easily got $40k per season for several years. Once it's clear that the scene is on its own, then we'll see the real moves to reorganize the scene and fundraise in the new environment.

Bit surprised he didn't wait another few days to finalize his decision. Isn't EWC announcing a few more games for this year's tournament circuit? Would make sense to wait a bit more to see whether SC2 is truly dead or not.

Aww, man!
GG to the man, he leaves an incredible story behind and if that wasn't worth it (... and all the money for him, but hey, fame outlasts wealth!) I don't know what is.

He’s climbed Everest already, unless he did something insane like win a WC off-racing I mean he’s never topping that miracle run, even if he won another.
Some folks are wired to keep climbing Everest over and over again, some folks are happy hitting the peak once and want to do something else. It’s what separates a Ronaldinho from a Ronaldo or a Messi, the former was perhaps the most gifted footballer I’ve ever seen but he became the best player in the world and a few years of that and he was done.
As an aside the scenario at the minute is a complete shit show. Be you a pro or a community organiser we’re talking months and months of uncertainty in either direction.
The former I mean it’s their livliehood and a straight yes no on an EWC, or IMO more importantly a wider circuit being confirmed or denied would be common courtesy. IF that’s not happening the community can’t pivot to something like the WC3 scene or what you see in BW because who’s going to put in all that legwork if there’s a possibility a regular circuit/EWC pops up and pisses all over your parade.
I don’t understand why this doesn’t seem to piss more people off, folks bitched incessantly about Blizzard, moaned incessantly about the Balance CouncilTM, etc etc, years of ‘daedgaem’ doom mongering.
Unless there’s some giant about-turn that makes me look silly, SC2 as we know it on the pro level is going to die in a fraction of the time Blizz and the ESL under previous ownership kept it going.
It’s almost like having all your eggs in the Saudi Arabian sports washing basket isn’t a good spot to be in

In all seriousness, great career, absolute miracle run, beating what was it Reynor, herO and Maru in the top 8? Probably my favorite underdog story ever, and maybe my favorite tourney run

A quick story: Olivera might be one of the wealthiest sc2 players. His has a wealthy family (rumor has it his father is an investor in real estate development). When he first started his professional career, he was already getting a million RMB in allowance from his family each year so he doesn't have to worry about making a living.

Breaks my heart a bit, but well, good luck Oliveira with the next thing on your roadmap!

GG Oliveira. The man who fulfilled the dream of every Chinese starcraft fan. It's TIME to be your own hero.

According to his explanation, he is tired of waiting for EWC’s announcements. He believes that even if SC2 were eventually on EWC's list, the pro ecosystem would return to a state of uncertainty six months later. He hopes his career goal is clear, rather than constantly being changed by external circumstances.

Well, in that case we can hope it's like many previous 'retirements' and he's just going inactive for now, but is open to coming back if the situation changes.
