When you MMB drag the screen while looking at the minimap it makes a lot of sense. It just saves you from having to move the mouse to the minimap and back, but the drag speed is the same. It was definitely working as implemented, yes I just don't think the implementation was actually very useful or intuitive in practice, and people expect to be able to adjust the sensitivity of it. In building a better version of it, we've also made some other adjustments to it that I think make it feel better (e.g. now when you drag pan, it will keep your mouse in the same location before/after instead of moving it with the drag). If you do want the old behavior you can simply toggle the new implementation off in settings.

I feel like only a handful of players even know that shieldbattery exists. Have you ever considered putting a couple chat bots in the default channels on each server like “brood war Eng-1” to advertise shieldbattery? The only way the server gets any advertisement is on TL or through word of mouth and if no one is really playing on it then the word of mouth aspect is quite non existent as well. Just my thoughts Yes, but we also want to be good stewards of the community and not spam people with things they don't want
We do have plans/thoughts about more things we can do, I just also want to make sure things are in a good state before we push a lot of new people to try it. This particular update still needs at least one round of fixes before I'd feel comfortable pushing for that (these are basically done now, so we'll likely get them out today).

so is this a global match making? let's say I use gearUP vpn to reduce my ping, does that work?

It is global matchmaking, yes (with some prioritization for lower latency games). We have our own global network to reduce ping, so using a VPN will likely be strictly worse and is not recommended (especially if the VPN endpoint is far from your actual location)

looks like lat fix patch got released

This looks awesome! will definitely be trying the BGH ladder out

Can we get a slider for the drag scroll speed (thats higher than the max now) and reverse direction option on it since its fixed

if u wanna see how the server looks/how things work now:

pings been pretty good so far, my upload sucks so getting anything around ~250ms range while im streaming 3v3 bgh vs international players is solid lat for me

would be amazing to send the packets just marked "TCP" but actually not implement the TCP protocol

i dont know money maps, what are neo and super?

Isn’t that exactly what I’m trying to say? ShieldBattery is mostly for BGH‑style games, which is unfriendly to Neo and Super map players.

Listen, if you guys actually want to bring a community over to play, we can add queues for you, but you need to demonstrate that will happen before we do so. We already have largely dead Fastest queues because their community told us they wanted them and then did not actually use them. We can support more queues now thanks to multi-queue, but having 400 different queues that are mostly empty is not a good experience

this is a lot better then expected, just need a few more players. latency is really good even with eu/us mixed teams

Awesome stuff you guys are making. I just have one little suggestion if you're open to the idea. Have you considered darkening the blue color of minerals and geysers, that stand on unexplored terrain, on the minimap to a darker shade? I think that would look good because I feel like I would otherwise unconsciously associate the brighter color with important information on par with assets that require my immediate attention. Just a thought.

if I convince the Chinese community to try SB will you implement fakeTCP?

Having done more research into this, it seems like FakeTCP would likely make the networking situation in China worse, not better. Alongside being very restrictive in how we deploy things (it simply will not work with how we deploy our relay servers today), and with no workable solution on Windows that doesn't involve distributing WinDivert (which registers as malware under many scanners). So no, I don't think FakeTCP is likely something we will implement, I think there are some other potential improvements we might be able to make with regard to China but I'd have to look into them more.

The problem is my ISP simply starts dropping the UDP packets. After a few get through it just starts blocking the port. When I tried changing the port every minute, it blocked every port after 1 hour.
Currently I use a proxy server with Fake ICMP, it would be actually suspicious if anyone cared enough to block it, but the traffic is very little so it works fine.
But having to go through Korea, sometimes it's not very fast to play Chinese players who are also going through Korea. This is a ridiculous situation that everyone is using a proxy through Korea to play people from the same country because of UDP QoS
I use this software:
