Hi guys it has come to my attention playing last few years that it is actually possible to put 4 guys on gas in standard maps like fighting spirit resulting in about a 20% more faster gas intake. Kind of like mineral boosting or whatever. This is especially useful in making gas heavy builds viable like dt drop, 2 port cloak wraith, sair reaver, Templar, lurker, muta etc. and presents a significant advantage to player using it. Of course it’s situational for when you need the gas most as you will have one less worker on minerals. Has this been discovered before? Does it have pro viability in ASL /SSL level? What do u think?

Yes, this has been discovered before. Pros have been aware of it for a long time. In fact the optimal mining for gas is 3 for geysers to the top and left, and 4 for those to the bottom and right.

Only when the geyser is not ideal. The best geyser gives you 303 gas per minute. That's mining up and down with good pathing (path finding regions are such that drones don't mine in a triangle)

Eclipse top side is basically perfect and you will gain nothing from 4 drones. Not sure about other races.

Geysers going the left of the hatchery are not as good, you might get 2-3% less, so like in the 295 range for drones. You might consider it in ZvZ, but it's 10 gas every minute while losing 60 minerals. One extra muta in ten minutes of mining it.

The geysers going to the bottom of the hatchery are like 270 gas and will hurt you on maps lik Dominator. It's a huge difference in ZvT

Yea 20% is an exaggeration on pro maps which have been released in the past ~20 years. There were more imperfections ~20 years ago but even by then, map makers knew that you can only put your geyser in one of two directions relative to the town hall, and the benefits of putting 4 workers on those geysers are known but fairly minimal. For example, there was a DT rush build for Protoss which required you to put 4 on gas just so you could get your Archives about 1 cycle faster (so, 8 out of 200 gas, or 4% efficiency gain max [and only a few seconds in practical terms]). However, there is an obvious opportunity cost by putting a 4th worker on gas as well, so generally speaking I'd say it's not worth it outside of super niche builds.

In general outside very specific windows and builds (and possibly ZvZ) the difference isnt that big on most modern maps. But as you say for sair/reaver among other things it is useful and I have seen it done (and I ve used it too).

Somebody thinking it may have not been discovered yet is... cute. Gives hope for a game not being dead yet seeing those newcomers trying to invent a wheel one more time.
