For me the nostalgia carried it but I wouldn't watch again.

My review one hour after the ending:
+ Show Spoiler + the good: - I liked the stoormtrooper/soon to be Jedi a lot. I know that people might say that all he did was fighting and pullling funny jokes but I enjoyed his character and light-heartedness - The escape of our stormtrooper hero and the superpilot - not seeing too much of C3PO - nothing comes to my mind even after thinking five minutes about it
the bad: - the whole concept of the movie was to be a homage to the original trilogy. They literrally copy/pasted everything that was cool in the original three movies and added almost nothing new. WTF? - I might be alone on this, but I really didn't like Han Solo or I should say that they really failed at making me emotionally attached to him. When he died on the bridge all I was thinking was how lame it was that it resembles the "I am your father"-scene so much - how quickly the girl jedi (or should I say Luke's daughter?) turned her Jedi super powers on. In the original series they stressed it so much how hard it is to master the force but she literally is able to obi-wan people's mind and to fight with a light sabre against a super skilled opponent within hours.
the ugly: - this made me really mad. They literally used every freaking reference they could get their hands on but then they fail to play the cantina theme in the FUCKING MOS EISLEY CANTINVA V2.0??????????????????
Overall:; 6/10 would watch again in a couple of years

Just finished last night. It waaaaaaaas epic.. so good. Planning to watch it again on 3D
Love the lightsaber fights. Not to much jumping dancing choreo / but perfect amount of fancy moves
To the people compalining about girl vs Kylo + Show Spoiler + 1.Kylo is not a Sith Lord... yet (not complete training) 2.Rey Knows how to handle a weapon (remember her staff and when he beat down those two goons) 3. Of course that wouldnt be enough. But somehow her sensitivity of the "force" makes you go beyond your natural capacity (also shown when she couldn;t believe how she flew the Millenium Falcon) 4. Kylo Ren is injured 5. Kylo Ren has behaviour issues/mental issues or childish behaviour (as shown when he gets frustrated etc/)
Imo, this first of the trilogy just want fans to feel that THIS is starwars, that's why there are a lot of elements of Ep IV, V and VI. I think they will start doing diff style in the next two movies.
my rating 9.8/10 would watch this weekend on 3D again.
It's sad that no matter what you do you can't just please all the fans =_=

I liked it.
+ Show Spoiler +I understand what people say though, it does contain a lot of tropes we've already seen in Star Wars. I hope JJ Abrams takes more risks in the future.
That being said, I personally think Kylo Ren is a good villain. He isn't a Sith Lord yet, he's just a Sith in training. And he is extremely unstable, as can be seen in the movie. That's his whole character really. I suspect that over the next two movies, he'll become a much more fully fledged villain.
I don't know how I feel about Snoke though. Besides the questionable name, the giant hologram put me off a bit. Hopefully, they make him into a convincing villain.
Oh, and I have to say, I am surprised by how good Finn and Rey are. The actors are terrific. They also played a lot of mind tricks with the marketing campaign to have us believe the Force-sensitive one would be Finn. He may still be though.
And finally... I really hope Rey isn't Luke's daughter. That would be cheap.

+ Show Spoiler +You can say whatever you want about SW fans, but get real, Kylo is a guy that was trained by one of the mighty Jedis, Luke Skywalker, yes he was injured, but not lethal harm was done on him, then He had a tough fight vs a floor and bathroom cleaner and then was heavily outpowered by a girl that that just controlled the force in hours, this girl is the greatest Jedi ever, not even Anakin, the chosen one was able to be that fast learner, sorry but this movie is a big dissapoinment in the basics of Jedi and Sith power level coherence, I just think that even my 3 years old nephew could fight Kylo and get even after playing with some broom

+ Show Spoiler + heck even luke put up a good fight in EV with just very short training against the mighty Lord Vader. Remember he was trained by Luke but what happened. It failed it means he did not become a Jedi . @ Ep 7 he's just probably a guy who knows how to use the force but not a master of it.
in terms of starcraft he it cheesed his way through diamond but doesnt know how to marco. When he fought a gold player and survived the cheese, they played macro and lost. :p
and I think they are just being a bit realistic with handling of lightsabers.

+ Show Spoiler + I didn't like that tie fighters were flying in atmosphere, but was prepared for it. I did like how tangible everything felt after episode 1 - 3 being so fake. I did like that the movie wasn't super goofy and cartoony like Jar Jar etc from episode 1 and many of the edits on the original trilogy like the singer in Jabba's Palace's lips getting super big on your screen as if she's singing into a camera. I did think that somehow JJ Abrams didn't create enough tension and drama and leaves out too much of the story...so how did we decide who was going after Luke and what they are going to say to him? I also think the name Snoke just sounds dumb. I did enjoy the battle scenes. I think the fact that it was almost a repeat of Episode IV meant that he needed to have the planet destroyed at the end of the movie and the "heroes" to go off looking for Luke to make it have a more tense feel instead of just "oh this again."

+ Show Spoiler +Overall, somewhere between Ep 3 (best prequel) and Ep 4 (weakest OT) in quality. Has a lot of things wrong with it, and a lot of things I really liked, just like all the other Star Wars. Borrowed too much from the OT and didn't do enough new. Could really have used a slower pace. There was way too much going on. Looking forward to the sequel and hoping it takes a much, much slower pace. I like the new heroes and villains.
Not perfect, but not bad at all. I agree with most of the criticisms here, but I don't think they're fatal. 8.5/10

Kylo was pretty heavily injured. He was hit by a bowcaster in the side that was portrayed to have lots of firepower. We see him react to the wound multiple times and he doesnt move fast for a single time. Also his fight vs Finn isn't close at all, we can clearly see that he's playing with him and his wounds are mostly him getting too cocky and getting surprised. The fight vs Rey is closer, but Rey looses that at the start, runs in circles around her bleeding enemy and finishes her exhausted enemy with brute strength while she is in the zone. I agree that she's an extreme case of a natural with the force talk, but before everything not from disney or not in a movie, autodidacts weren't that rare. Especially not once they knew they had the force.
I liked it a lot, as many people pointed out there are lots of similarities to episode 4, but I thought that they did enough new things, especially because most old characters get new roles. Also positively surprised by the main cast. 9/10 in terms of star wars experience.

+ Show Spoiler + I agree with pretty much everything you said. They copied way too much of the original trilogy and the way they killed han solo was fucking stupid. He shouldn't have died imo, or at least not in such a stupid way.
Also the girl jedi Ray yeah... That was rediculous how fast she went from not knowing the force to using it WITHOUT ANY TRAINING. No master, no nothing. Just teaches herself...
I knew this movie wasn't going to be as good as the EU (books after the trilogy), but my lord couldn't help but be disappointed. I enjoyed it and yet can't help be sad at how they made it. I also think Luke Skywalker running away is dumb as well.

Best movie of the 7.
10/10
+ Show Spoiler +I really like how they threw in nods to all 6 movies. The droid/clone army reprise when the camera pans over the rebel base and Leia echoing Padme's "there's still good in him" line was a nice touch.
I really want to see more with Snoke and Kylo Ren. I feel like it would be cool to see a Sith version of the training process.

+ Show Spoiler +Many of the issues with this movie stems from what it has to do to be good. 1. It is by necessity bound to the OT that precedes it. That means that it necessarily has to include plenty of callbacks to the original. The OT didn't have this issue because it was first. The PT had this issue too. 2. It overrides but still has to honor the EU. Hardcore SW fans liked the EU, so it's not easily discarded. But it's also an unintelligible mess. 3. It somehow had to be the OT but also different, because that's what fans thought they wanted. 4. It has to feel fresh and without baggage while doing all of this.
Safe to say #4 was never happening. And that hurt it a lot.

Also + Show Spoiler +did they seriously just kill Coruscant in about 15 seconds of screen time?

+ Show Spoiler +And 4 other planets? Somewhere out there, Luke should have been having a heartattack. Heck, Leia shouldhave had a spasm of pain or 2 as well, but seems she only responded to Han dying. Talk about disturbance in the force. Coruscant was madly populated planet.

I'm pretty sure it's not. They say the name of the system in the movie and nothing about coruscant.

I want to know more about Rogue One. Like right now...
|
something i was wondering...
+ Show Spoiler + Is it possible that Ben and Rey are siblings?
Obviously Han doesn't recognize her and Lea only hugs her and sends her off to find Luke...
But I mean force users, separated at young age and right now there is no possible explanation where else she could come from.

That's the first thing I thought as well. On December 18 2015 14:15 LegalLord wrote:+ Show Spoiler +Many of the issues with this movie stems from what it has to do to be good. 1. Safe to say #4 was never happening. And that hurt it a lot. Man, please... These are not callbacks.. This, is plagiarism. At that point, you've got to call it like it is. For the one defending how poorly Ren fought against a non trained force wielder, you've got to remember some little things : 1- Kylo Ren is no Sith Lord. Yes, Maul wasn't either. Tho he nearly killed two trained Jedi in 1v2. 2- Lots of autodidactes Force wielder. Dunno were you read that, but that's untrue as far as I remember. During the Old Republic, Jedi were "gathering" force sensitive children to train them. It has to begin early, (Anakin nearly not accepted @9yo). The only real Force "power" that they can really develop are reflexs and speed (which is why Ani is capable of Podracing.) 3- Rey's knowing how to handle a weapon has NOTHING to do with lightsaber duel between two Force wielders. MagnaGuards knows how to handle a weapon very much better than Rey is, and they still got dismantled by Jedis cause they ain't got Force (same can be said for Grievous). 4- Ren's injury... I don't know how to explain it... How a fucking BOWCASTER (aka ~heavy blaster) which can blow up two stormtroopers four meters away cannot do more than making a man not armoured droping 2 drops of blood ???!!! For real ? 5- Luke may hav put a fair fight against Vader in epV (meh, I woudln't call it a fair fight nonetheless, he got his arm severed), but he trained with Obi-Wan a little, and with Yoda, the greatest Jedi Master since tenth of thousand year in Jedi history (Even tho his training wasn't completed). Compare this to Rey's second touch to the Force which is using Mind Trick without any training... (BTW, Mind Trick his really hard to do for real. Only Jedi Knights could perform it afaik, and it was difficult to some extent. So to say that some nobody is able to do that during his/her second touch with the Force is... At best, laughable, at worst, completely dumb.) And really, the cracking of the ground to separate them when Ren's at Rey's mercy, so she doesn't have the dilemma about killing him or not, about feeling the Dark Side's power ??? How poor storytelling is that ? Imma stop that, I could go there for months. I'd rather make a full list of the inconsistencies and post it sometimes.
