Do you think this is a MOBA that is a bit dumbed down? Having no individual level and no shops for items makes me think that the path for building your character is extremely limited.

I wish I could have a beta key ( Part of its appeal is that fact that its not as mechanically intense as other mobas, and that there is less of a need to memorize builds and item selection means that the game *is* more limited than say DotA. That said, that limitaition is hardly felt, most games of dota played at the casual level go with a few variations of the same ability leveling, and pick from a pool of rather limited items (If you're playing lifestealer, there are maybe 8 lategame items you're picking between), and the relative versatility of talents (that in many cases involve getting entirely different abilities) fills that niche in a similar way. Is it less complex? Indisputably so, I wouldn't call it as much "dumbed down" as "simplified" or "streamlined". It works well, I had the same reservations before actually playing, but talent choices feel like really important decisions.

Tassadar, for example, can play really differently depending on which talents you choose.

Others like illidan and kerrigan you can feel yourself carry.

My question is if you kill a neutral camp and they attack down your lane, Doss the enemy team get exp for killing them? I personally really don't like being able to have the same hero on multiple teams but sounds like it's not an issue. Even if they got xp for killing them, you did for killing them first so it evens out in that regard, plus they possibly (most likely) did damage to the enemy fort.

There aren't strict lanes, so it's not as annoying as say League where you can have a Kayle vs Kayle mid or something of that nature. It's truly always 5 players vs 5 players so the issue with same heroes on both teams are pretty irrelevant or mitigated. That said, I believe they'll take away that possibility once a bunch more heroes are added. 24 total heroes and a small playerbase in a closed alpha doesn't allow enough flexibility to take away mirrors. I don't believe they get experience for the kill, but I'll keep an eye out for it next game.

I will say that when I was playing a skillshot heavy hero like Tyrande I definitely felt the pressure to out-perform my counterpart on the enemy team. I was playing a game with zeromus and kadaver, as Stitches, and Zero said something to the effect of "oh, yeah, the stitches on the enemy team is a streamer, I've played with him before, he's really good". This of course led to an all out hookwar, where my principal objective wasn't to win, it was to land really difficult hooks. At one point our hooks crossed mid air and he snatched me a split second before my hook would have gotten him. It was great fun, and I'm really sad there wasn't all chat to be able to talk with him

They do get experience for killing them but that doesn't explain half of why they're still important. #1 You can't ignore mercenaries pushing a lane for very long. All of them if left unchecked will destroy a lane eventually, the minions and towers alone cannot stop them. #2 All of the mercs are beefy, so killing them takes time, which of course allows the team that summoned the mercs to spend time elsewhere knowing they forced at least one hero back to deal with a lane.

That said, she is very dependent on a team that knows what they're doing to support her. You can more aggressively push lanes with her thanks to Siege Mode and mines which can zone out an even number of players (2v2 or 3v3) for example, and in team fights over objectives again her range can be useful as a zoning tool, but in much the same was as Siege Tanks need Marines or Helbats to really be effective Sgt Thunder needs her teammates to support her and keep enemies from closing in on her. I think as the game gets more figured out she'll have a place, but right now most teammates treat the specialists like they're just any other Assassin hero when they aren't which is why most of the specialists feel hard to play, with the Witch Doctor probably being the only exception.

There is an article on Eurogamers, Dustin Browder is talking about Heroes of the Storm: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-05-01-blizzard-versus-the-hostility-of-mobas Even though I don't completely agree with his reasoning, the article is insightful.

Been playing it since I got the Tech Alpha invite. Played a ton of LoL and so far I pretty much agree with the OP's initial breakdown. My biggest gripe so far is that it feels terribly SLOW. I was showing a few friends the game and trying to explain it and I basically said it was like playing LoL at 1/2 speed. I am used to quick reaction times, and key combinations and in HoTS I have so far haven't experienced that. Laning is not just boring its extremely boring. I dunno its 1:30am so I am not going to go into some half asleep tirade on a few things. I do still find the game "fun". I enjoy getting to goof around on characters I've grown to love over the years of playing Blizzard games but I do feel this game needs a lot of polish (hence the alpha phase). If anyone wants to add me in HoTS Tech Alpha I believe I used the same handle as here on TL. I'll look again in the morning when im not so pooped. edit - Sgt Thunder was the first character I tried after the Tutorial...lol she's a blast.
