Always log out in a forrest or inside a tree. It's a huge risk spawning inside a building when everyone in a ten block radius can hear the loading weapon sound that follows.
I wonder where the hotspots have moved to. Used to be everyone made a b-line for NW airfield a while. Circled around it 4 times on 4 different full servers today and didn't find a soul. Only looted once as well.
I'm thinking Electro, Cherno and Berezino maybe? Don't feel like shooting fresh spawns though, and they're usually in those areas.
I'm gonna have a cry I think. Hide myself in the second floor of a building while I go afk taking a piss. have 3 friends around the area so I think I should be pretty safe. Come back: "You are dead", and some 10 year old kids is running around shouting "lol. noob we kill you. faggot".
Wooooow they claimed they have fixed the collision bug with terran in 0.37. At least half of my deaths were caused by this retarded glitch, so happy if it goes away... Now for weapon swap and reloading animations not to bug out and take 2mn+, and the game should be enjoyable consistently.
I sit inside a building doing my stuff, in walks a guy randomly with a bat. I pull out my sks and shoot all 10 shots at him. I know I hit him 4 times by blood splatter, still not dead. Then I attempt to both run away and pull out my firemans axe. My guy REFUSES to do anything but crouch away slowly. I'm spamming the fucking hotkey button. Then I'm unconscious. I wake up a second later, axe in hand..AND THEN HE PUTS THE AXE AWAY. I die before I can take it out again.
Its surprisingly little fun to be killed by unresponsive UI..
hey guys here is some screenshots of us pking in balota from yesterday. we killed over 10 ppl between the 3 of us even though we all died in the end. XD
I was a little jaded of my recent character, couldn't find a long range scope if my life depended on it. So I kept some of the neat things I found, two helments bunch of m4 attachments, several red dot scopes, and headed down past Zelenogorsk.
Found some people on the road to the south of the Pavlovo military base. In fact it was 7 guys, all in military gear. And of course only one of them speaks any sort of english, and not well at that. I kept asking them if they wanted to trade and all the usual moves of friendship, but I ended up handcuffed and shot in the head.
So, don't talk to large groups I guess. Kinda disappointed I didn't trade things or give stuff to people.
Haven't been paying much attention to DayZ lately. Are there more than 5 zombies on the map, do they respawn, and do items respawn without server reboots yet?

No, no, and no. If the latest devblog is to be believed, they are very close to putting all of that into the game.

Rofl fucking really? No wonder nobody i know plays it atm. Its been months since they released the alpha, i know its an alpha but that really comes off as bad.
They're supposed to fix the fps drops in cities, and the awful collision bugs in the next patch (it's on experimental right now, and at least the collision bug seems to be fixed, which would be fucking awesome because dying cause your rifle shoots the ground for no reason is pretty infuriating: experimental laggs as hell though, so they have to fix that before putting it on stable). I don't see respawning loot and zombies being added before a long time though, the server performance is still ridiculously bad, and even though they supposedly have a team working on that, if they couldn't fix it after all this time while it should be the #1 priority problem, I guess they won't fix it for a while still.
Hate beating on a dead horse, but wasn't rocket bragging about server performance and "network bubble" for like months on end before alpher was even hinting at a release? I haven't really played alpher since it came out and was really disappointed after putting like 25hrs into it within 2-3 days. I ended up buying arma 3 afterwards to play breaking point. probably have far more hours in that. This is coming from someone with like 400-600 hours on dayzmod.
edit: as a side note, my friends and i basically gave up on alpher.. by the time they even get the feature set to the bare minimum of what the dayzmod offered, it will be years from now at the rate theyre going and by then the game will probably look like vaporware compared to new titles coming out.. not to mention it will probably be just as buggy if not more buggy than the mod was. Only difference would be the inventory, items, and item conditions which imo feel like a negligible difference considering the standalone was supposed to be a fundamental framework change to be a "legit mmo framework" or whatever terminology rocket used.. /rant

"nobody plays it"..? There are literally thousands of servers with 20+ people on it and equally many with less.
alpha is exactly that, alpha. Its not even beta. Its suppose to be full of bugs, glitches, and with missing content. You can't blame the game for missing things when its in alpha. The creator even said specifically that you should NOT play the alpha expecting anything good. And you sign a "I know this is alpha and the game is shit" user agreement every time you log in.
If they spend the next 5 years in alpha, it would STILL not come off as bad. A lot of games have even longer development cycles than that.
Does anyone even remember the Minecraft alpha? You had a creative mode with 20-something blocks..and thats it. No adventure mode, no health or eating. I don't think you even had multiplayer.. Some years later its the best selling indie game of all time.

the server performance he's been bragging about are features yet to come. They've hinted at a release date, which is the end of the year.
It might be as buggy as the mod was, but at least it will be without hackers. Thats probably the main reason they rework the entire server thing after all. Better graphics and infinitely better UI is just a (big) bonus imo...although they're not quite there yet. Playing the alpha and being disappointed is kinda pointless.

At this point I don't really have any faith that rocket and company are even capable of what's needed to improve the server performance to anywhere near other successful indie title standards. Even improving the FPS by 100% would not be enough for most people considering the fps most or many are getting. The fact of the matter is, it would take a complete overhaul on the way arma II engine functions at a fundamental level. From the track record of development speed, efficiency, and tangible content that actually gets completed (little to nothing functions in either dayZ mod or standalone correctly or efficiently), i just don't see it happening. I would love for it to happen as much as anyone else, but my opinion is that DayZ will never become what I had hoped for (a non buggy, functioning DayZ with all the planned features from DayZmod in addition to the planned new features of dayz standalone).
As far as the hacks, I haven't played since release so if there aren't any hacks yet, that is certainly a tremendous feat they've accomplished and thumbs up to them for that.
Playing the alpha and being disappointed has its merits in my opinion and is not pointless. Certainly an alpha will lack polish and be buggy, but alphas are a great tool for consumers to measure the efficiency, communication, and progress a company can make given proper funding, time, and feedback from the community. I don't think rocket & company have made a fraction of the amount of progress required to bring this title to a successful one in terms of gameplay goals. From a business standpoint, they could stop working today and have made enough money to make their efforts worth it. From an ethical standpoint and as someone who is passionate about delivering the best product they sought out to create (which is what I originally liked about rocket and dayzmod), it isn't even close.
Anyway, I originally posted here to see what the progress was on the standalone and went off on a bit of a tangent. I hope the game succeeds and will be following up on its progress from time to time. Thanks for the info.

Funny how you bring up Minecraft, a game where the development early on was not on creating new blocks for you, but building the infrastructure of the game for the future (multiplayer, mod support, engine, etc.).
Watching the dev blogs of dayz is rather depressing, as they keep advertising new features like new weapons or some new gimmick you can use (which in itself is pretty cool), while speaking no words about terrible FPS, idiotic zombies or countless clipping errors, etc. It would be nice if the devs would focus on getting the very basics of the game to work before they'd start working on more helmets for everyone to wear.
It's fine if people enjoy the game in this state. I, for one, do not, and will not pay any money until the game is out of alpha. And at this point, I genuinely doubt the game will ever leave alpha status.

You mean the devblog where they talked about the back infrastructure, the glitchy zombies, how to add more depth to the game, decrease lag, add dynamic spawning, hunting, and fix melee hitboxes? You know, the latest one?

Invisible players and zombies: No complaints here.
Fireplaces and Emissive Improvements: New feature instead of fixing the absolute basic issues that plague the game.
New towns in Chernarus: New content instead of fixing the absolute basic issues that plague the game.
New Weapon Content: New content instead of fixing the absolute basic issues that plague the game.
Mouse acceleration and player control: Minor bugfix.
Physics and Arrows: New feature (throwing, ragdolls) instead of fixing the absolute basic issues that plague the game.
Animals, collisions and zombie pathfinding: Basic stuff, for which they now have an entirely new team?
Persistent Loot and objects: No complaints here.
The vast majority of the points they talk about are completely new features, like every week, and the basic issues seem to be treated as an afterthought, if that.

Because clearly the entire development team, including the art guys and the map guys, have to sift through code to find the bugs.
