Oh my god I am so fucking pissed. Such a bad ending. If I had to interpret it, it would probably go like this -
Dexter realizes the trouble he has caused people that knew his secret, exhibit A being Deb. She dies because of his fault (arguably) and he realizes that whoever he is with is in trouble. So he isolates himself, case in point being the last scene, where he just stares at us, no monologue, probably implying that he has lost touch with himself and everyone around him, total isolation. But yeah, shit ending.
Also, what was the point of Masuka's daughter? Subplots happen but that was just terrible. Elway is the worst PI in history. Hannah still doesn't know what disguises are. Dexter kills Deb and that part really made me sad. Sigh, glad it's over. A horrible ending to a once great show.

Better than expected for me too but that still doesn't make it good. Just a meh finale to the worst season of the show.

Don't worry guys, Dexter season 9: The Lumberjack Edition will be announced any day now.
As a whole, I loved Dexter. Yeah the last four seasons weren't as good as the first four, but I still enjoyed them.
Sad ending, I was actually expecting that Deb would survive, and Dex to ride off into the sunset with Hanna and then the credits roll. This was a much more powerful ending and I'm glad they took this path.
Still bummed we never got to see Dexter being exposed to the police, I think that would have made for an interesting season.

Ya I thought it was horrible because he killed himself. But then he is still out here propbably still hunting bad people. So I thought this was kinda cool.

This show. I don't know what to say. There was a time when it was fantastic. That time has come and gone. I really wanted Dexter to be exposed and him either die or be forced to run. I do like the fact that he and (Harrison Hannah) dont end up together.
All in all the first 4 seasons were fantastic 5 was bleh 6 was awful 7 was good 8 was terrible.
This was just a shitty ending by shitty writers.

Anyone was a little bit surprised about the last episode ? Everything went as expected , just that lumberjack ending caught me offguard.

was Vince Gilligan involved? Cause that's some X-Files type ending. '
Still don't know how i feel about it. Don't know how i'd feel about it if there was no lumberjack scene either.

The only way that this show should have ended is with Dexter being caught by Miami Metro and sentenced to death.
I just don't see how you can justify him getting away with killing ~200 people.
Why was he even allowed to just leave the police station after stabbing a suspect? Don't you at least get arrested for it? Why was he able to simply walk into a hospital, shut off the machines and steal a coma victim? I know the hospital was in disarray due to the storm, but still... Why did he decide to desert his son? Oh I know, because he wouldn't want him to grow up with a killer, right? Oh wait...

I genuinely expected Mecha-Doakes to wait for him in the Cabin.

I know the show had problems, but I still enjoyed it. Sad it is over

There was plenty of potential for a good last season.

That was a fucking horrible finish.

I like the ending. Good bye Dexter! Fucking kill somebody if you're bored of your new job!

You can really say they... killed it.

You knew from season 1 that this was not going to have a happy ending. Either Dexter has to die doing the right thing (therefore fulfilling Harry's code and showing that it made him a decent person), or he had to get caught and outed for the monster he is.
This still isn't a "happy" ending, but it's just... eh. Eh. That's the sound effect I would use to describe it.

I thought it was a decent ending. Not really what I expected, but it was decent. I don't think the writers get enough credit, they brought the show back to a decent level after failing miserably with it for a couple seasons. Deb though ... That sucked, she came a long way as a character, and was easily my favorite character on the show after Doakes got killed.

Sometimes the bad guys get away. Or sometimes it takes forever to catch them. (Look up Whitey Bulger for instance. Murderer/mobster that went into hiding for almost 20 years iirc before being caught.) Plus it's good whenever a show breaks the Hollywood "Good must always win! Bad must always be vanquished!" cliche.

i cant believe people wanted the show ending with Batista and Quinn trying to ACT. that would be the worst.

He's a killer of killers who wants to be human, but at his core is a monster (well, was before Hannah fixed him with her cooch), but we never get to see what people really think of the man Dexter is aside from Deb.
There was a leaked ending a while back where, after Deb dies, Quinn goes up to Dexter and reveals that he's known about him for a long time, and that he's been ok with it. Then, after Dexter reveals that he can't kill/doesn't need to kill Saxxon, Quinn goes and kills him in a similar fashion to Dexter's kills (table, tarp, and knives).
At least that would have been interesting.

Holy shit I lost it laughing.
I'll be honest, I havent watched Season 6, 7 and 8. I watched the finale of both 7 and 8, just to see what happens.
But Lumen in Season 5 really fucked it for me... especially with that "Poochy has to go now, my planet needs me" ending that erased the whole Season worth of content.
But yeh I heard 6 and 7 were bad. I'm sad that the show turned into what it did, its a damn travesty... the first 4 Seasons were that of a well-made show that I will really miss.

That would have been a bad ass way to end.
This ending was just so dumb. Walking out of the hospital with her body and no one thinks twice? Heading into the storm, boat gets crushed, but some how he managed to make it back to shore? The hell? The ending had so many impossibles to just completely ruin it for me.
