Really though why would they end the series like this? What were the other proposed ideas that were SO much worse that they didn't get accepted =[. I've been watching this show for ages and now I'm sad.

Dexter abandoning his family to prevent them from getting hurt, Deb dying The fade out scene at the end felt like it would have been very poignant if I had given a shit anymore. Dexter realizing he had feelings, only to have to let them go and live in isolation because of who he is... and interesting ending for a character I used to care quite deeply for, but no longer do.

I'm gonna quote what I said on facebook: I have to hand it to the writers of Dexter. There is absolutely no conceivable way you could have come up with a worse ending -- even if you tried. The most competent writers in the world wouldn't be able to pull that off. Congratulations.

Are they aiming for a movie? Maybe the network caved and is buying another season?

This is exactly how I feel. The ending wasn't bad per se, but the whole last season was so terrible that everything leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

If the writers had succeeded in convincing me of this, that would have been a powerful and impressive ending. Unfortunately, the reason for Dexter to think he's too dangerous to be around Hannah/Harrison was utterly nonsensical so Dexter's decision to fucking abandon them was too stupid to have any impact. I'm honestly baffled that the writers intended me to buy that Dexter had a complete turnaround because a bizarre series of coincidences resulted in Deb's death.

Congratulations. having Dexter go to Argentina and live happily ever after with Hannah and Harrison would have been a worse ending. Happy endings don't exist for Dexter.

+ : The scene with Saxon at the prison was perfect. The silence and tension between them, Saxon grinning smugly, and then Dexter baiting him into making the first move. The long pause before pressing the emergency button, the fake reaction, and Batista and Quinn watching the whole thing on tape. It was amazing. One of my favorite scenes ever in the show. I'm convinced, too, that Dexter was ready to kill Saxon and accept the consequences whether he picked up that pen or not. - : Deb being totally fine and then all of a sudden "oh there were complications, sorry she's a vegetable Kappa". It was impossible to feel anything given that. I did get quite sad when he was pushing that switch, though. - : The fact that Dexter decided to preserve himself at the end. The choice he made was even more cowardly than suicide. Too afraid to hurt anyone else, too afraid to kill yourself. It really rubbed me the wrong way. That whole idea would have had way more effect if it had ended with a slow pan of Dexter resting peacefully at the bottom of the sea, like so many of his victims.

At least that would have been believable, albeit boring. Let me write out the plot of this most recent episode to illuminate how utterly disjointed and unfathomably stupid it is:
That plot is more fucking absurd than any of the mecha-doakes storylines. If the story was simply "Dexter got away and lived in Argentina happily ever after with Hannah" ... it would be boring, sure, but it would have at least followed some kind of logic.

I'm mostly just mad at dexter being a cunt and dumping his son on his "practically-wife" that he hasn't really spent a whole lot of time with, on the grounds that "erry1 1m cl0s3 2 getz hert :'(((("

And how the fuck does Dexter survive sailing his boat into a hurricane? In an interview with Scott Buck, he says that there's actually an emergency raft on the boat, as if that somehow explains how Dexter survived. These writers seriously had no clue what they were doing.
