Stop the balance whining please. |
Didn't see any of the games, but pretty sure that Terran is broken now..
TvZ is EZ, or at least seems so on the high level games with the mines, and TvP is impossible.. BOTH the Terran matches broken.. Coincidence ?? - pretty sure it's not..
In fact - if we take off the Baneling-Busts and/or Roach/Bane all-ins from Zerg in TvZ, pretty sure that the percentages would look like 70%/30%..
Same with the TvP - if we take out the SCV pulls, pretty sure that TvP will be around 30%/70% as well..
Have some ideas/opinion about the matter in the spoiler below (feel free to read if interested though)
+ Show Spoiler + So: No#1 units on the top of the list that need changes IMO are:
1 - Widow-Mine: Reduce splash, reduce recharge time, upgrade increase capacity to 2 charges instead of insta-burrow 2 - Swarm-Host: Reduce unit cost, remove upgrade 3 - Baneling: Reduce damage vs buildings - down to 65 instead of 80 4 - Immortal: Reduce damage vs Armored - instead of 50, make it 45
Pretty sure those will answer a lot of problems that exist right now.. And what is more - it will show us much more realistic data of the matchups TBH..
--> Baneling-busts won't be as effective, or at least not as easy to do.. So ends up having better "RAW" TvZ number data --> WMines will not totally choke Zerg, and will be better vs Protoss as well with the 2 charges and faster recharge time.. Then we'll see if indeed Zerg has a lot of "Melee" firepower in the form of Ling/Bane/Ultra and Terran can't hold without mines being as OP and as broken as currently are now.. --> Swarm-Host change will be the best thing that would happen to PvZ late-game.. Perhaps will be OP towards the Protoss a bit more, but still - again the same attitude - if you remove the "amount of ridiculousness" within games you'll end up having the better Balance-wise percentage data --> Immortal reduction is solely for reducing Immortal-bust strength in PvT.. Also the PvP matchup might not be as much Immortal-fest as is now IMO..
Still - the point is - Blizz isn't even trying to reduce the "ridiculousness's strength" within the game, so we'd be able to more clearly see/observe/taste/try the game/data.. Perhaps afraid of the outcome results, but.. Those changes need be tested to know where the game is currently "standing" IMO

So I missed the finals yesterday, but I heard there were rumors that WCS S3 Finals would be in Canada? Is there a source for that? I'm seeing a Reddit post, a thread on Battle.net and a flag on Liquipedia, but I would like something more confirmed.

Well it's pretty much inevitable that JD's going to get a championship if he sticks with SC2. It's hard to be consistent in this game and I think his multiple top 2/4 finishes means damn near as much as a title as far as skill goes.
Still, pretty surprised he'd go 0-4 to a terran, as good as polt is. It seemed like he really wanted to play aggressive and not go into hive tech. Bio mine just trades so damn efficiently vs ling bling muta though... Polt looked unstoppable against that style.

i wish there was a better place to put this post, maybe i'll write a blog, but i just want to recognize 4 people i met yesterday at the event.
these 4 guys flew in from Louisiana the second day of the finals (~3000 miles east?) just to watch the event live and cheer on polt. one of them (or all of them?) worked for Toyota in lakeview and ordered 20 pizza's to feed the audience so they didn't have to leave to get food so they could stay and be LOUD!
they were the 4 guys with the 4 "P-O-L-T" signs standing up and cheering. they saved ESPORTS that day.
never forget.

Haha, that's awesome. The 4 men from Louisiana.

Polt not only does have he have amazing mechanics to macro, his planning is meticulous, if you see every time he goes for the 3rd he puts bunkers up. Don't hate on the Terran because they play smart. A big factor in the success of ling bling muta is the annoying muta harass. Mutas are more map awareness and harass, don't use them to fight against 3 3 marines. Pick off reinforcements and burrow bangelings, forcing Terran to scan every inch they proceed is a big win for Zerg. Ultralisk are the answer, they eat marines for snacks @.@

Something to note, tournaments worked very differently in bw. You almost always knew the opponent and maps ahead of time instead of these one day bracket deals and JD was/is a extremely practice oriented player. I'd bet going into this he was powering his ZvP more or less single-mindedly since that what's been holding him up. Having to switch gears and play ZvT cold is weird and different and JD has significantly less sc2 time to draw on when compared to polt. If they had taken a day or two before the finals I'd expect a very different result

He's played in more than enough LANs to know the drill. These comments are downright outrageous.

To be honest, I'm not sure whether baneling trades against SCVs are all that effective against top terrans. Saw it with SK versus Innovation as well. As long as the terran has strong macro, the MULEs can off set a lot of the economic damage.
Totally, there were a few times when he sent 8+ banelings and nuked 10 workers, that's hardly worth it at all late game when Terran's a few minutes away from saccing 10-20 SCV's anyways.

I think there's something to this, JD definitely was using a new style (at least to me) where he went fast Hive to keep up with Terran upgrades. Worked ok, but he basically still stayed on Lair units after that (and did he upgrade his Muta's? I never got a chance to check that) and still lost the tech race and got rolled even in games he was clearly leading Polt.
So it seemed a little unrefined*, but it was a pretty cool game plan to keep his upgrades flowing (also the game where he went Infestors was kinda cool, just cuz you rarely see that, but that was also unrefined, he stuck on them too long and didn't transition well).
* His gas - mineral balance was completely out of whack just about every game for example. 1000's of gas, struggling for minerals, it was like he was playing Terran =p.

Jaedong's micro was honestly pretty bad against the mines. Every other time he went to engage Polt's army, he lost just slightly too much which started a snowball effect. His drone count was also very low across his initial 3 bases going into the midgame. That matched with Polt's aggressiveness spelled disaster for Jaedong. I am a Zerg player, and I know I'm suppose to be saying "LOL TERRAN OP" but I honestly think that Polt just straight up player better than JD for at least 3/4 of the games.

Just watched the VODs, was surprised to see a 4-0 but definitely feel JD played a better game than what the numbers say. The season finals should be awesome for sure!

Wanted to share some photos of my WCS experience. Got lucky with a friend who works for Blizzard and hooked me up with VIP passes.
+ Show Spoiler +Photo of the hilarious FFA played just before the final series. + Show Spoiler +Photo with Polt and his big check! + Show Spoiler +David Kim got the idea to take Polt, TaeJa, and Sage to dinner after the show as over. Turns out that they would've been stuck eating instant food they brought from Korea if we hadn't. Poor progamers... + Show Spoiler +Last photo before parting ways after dinner.

That's so cool :O So you had dinner with them?! Nice pictures!

Thanks! I should've taken more pictures, but didn't want to annoy people.
My friend and I got to chat with Scarlet a bit after she lost to Jaedong. Surprised by how tall she is, but very nice and was gracious even though I'm sure she was very disappointed. Jaedong looked super sheep-ish after he eliminated her, and for good reason IMO
Polt is super nice and it was fun chatting with him. David Kim had to help us translate for Taeja and Sage, but they were fun to hang out with too. We took them to have hamburgers of course, and none of them were able to finish their meals. Got to maintain their impression of Americans!

Wasted food! >:o Very nice though, it's awesome that you got to converse with all of them. Funny to hear that about Jaedong, he's a Tyrant in game but it seems he is one of the most respectful people in real life. And Scarlett being tall I didn't realize

I agree to some point with DieJokes and Wuster in terms of Jaedongs preparation and practice. Imo there's no question did it affect his play? Of course it did (and lot's of previous tournaments post game interviews hint towards this exact thing). But having said that I don't feel it would change the outcome of the series......maybe 4-2 instead of 4-0.
I'm still having a hard time believing Jaedong lost every game though. I mean, in virtually every game he was up 40-70 supply at some point in time. Those mines are ***king nasty.

As a Jaedong fanboy i mest say Polt was the better player. And he's such a nice guy. Can't hate him

Sage couldn't finish a meal? I thought he could eat for three. Maybe he was under the weather or something.
