welcome to the convoluted world of pro sports legalities what a laugh.
Were they going to miss his 8 goals? I think Gomez should be thanking Jesus and his agent and the idiots in New York for giving him 8 million for nothing.
well you may not understand why Gomez sitting at home doing nothing is complete and total bullshit. fortunately, the NHLPA and the NHL do realize this even though you do not.
EITHER Crosby is going to have a big concussion this year that will take him out of competitive play for an extended period of time. OR Crosby plays like Lindros did from 2002 onward.
the question I have is, will coaches of teams playing Pitts get their goons to give crosby extra attention? When he was back he was at something like 2 pts per game pace and now that Malkin has a real winger to play with they have have two, 100+ pts guys. But if someone totally replaceable from the 4th line of the Flyers catches crosby in a tough check....
i very highly doubt someone is going to basically blackball themselves out of the league by intentionally headshotting crosby. more than likely, if he does get injured, it is probably off of a legal hit like the two that screwed him up last time. it's pretty evident at this point that he is pretty susceptible to concussions
That's the definition of a contract of circumstance. He had a shitty 10-11 season, had a major injury that killed most of last season, and was good but far from great in the playoffs (14pts in 24 games). He wouldn't get a max contract if the team didn't just lose its best player and had no replacement for Zajac if he bolted.
Zajac is a good player, but not a great one by any means, and $5.75 under the new CBA is for players a notch or two better than just good. Zajac is good on draws, good in his own end, plays any scenario and is able to generate some offense. But the 10-11 season showed that he is not good enough to generate offense on his own consistently and that's what you want out of a 1st liner. He's more like a really good #2.
Bergeon, Kessler, Plek, Mike Richards, Jeff Carter, etc are guys who most would agree are better but making less, and they all got their deals when the cap was significantly higher. Shit, Tavares makes $5.5. He should have never got more than $5 based on the new CBA and comparable plaeyrs. I am really surprised that LouLam didn't try to get him on a 1 or 2 year extension to prove himself if he wanted the 8 year.

Is Benn going to sign? And what are these kids waiting for, someone to dumb to dump 6 million into them? I guessif Zajac can make 5.75 then they can expect it. Never ceases to amaze me how GMs always have such a huge "do something" no bias, no matter how idiotic the move is. Sometimes its just better to stand pat and collect those top 3 draft picks.
No chance I watch hockey before the Super Bowl is wrapped up.
Fuck 'em. They cant insult my intelligence like that and get away with it.
I wouldve thought that more TLers shared my opinion though. Maybe Im on the wrong thread
anyways.
Kings should still own the west if Duryl's coaching methods are still working with his kings. ( he is the only active coach in the NHL to have experienced the 48 games format from 94 )
Rangers/Pens/Flyers should all be the atlantic beasts of the east. This division is gonna be epic 'til the end imo.
oh and yeah, fuck the Habs. Bring back my Nordiques. The legend of the Stastny brothers still lives on!

Adam Oates, coach of the Caps, was a player during the 94 season so he has some experience with a shortened season. Might be the same with some other teams with former-player coaches but none of them come to mind at the moment.
I'm looking forward to Caps v. Canes. So glad Semin decided to stay in division, can't wait to see him lose the puck in transition for a breakaway goal.
well at least with a 48 games schedule they will make the playoffs!!!
theyre always in the top half of the league during the first part of the season. They will be like the ol' timers Oilers minus Messier's grit.
Adam Oates is a great playmaker. Great coach will have to wait until im proven otherwise.
And Kirk Mulleras well as Kevin Dineen were players in 94 as well... means that the Canes might own the Caps :S
anyways the Canes' team should be light years from what it was last season. They added a couple great players and their own former figure skating star skinner will be a year older, a year stronger.

dont underestimate the canes!
I wasn't really underestimating the Canes, i was more saying that even though Semin can be crazy good at times, he will drive you crazy more of the time with some lazy plays and and foolish stick handling (both with the puck and other peoples faces.)
I have waited the entire fall for this, did not have a jobb got tv channels so i could watch the nhl, then i got a job and 6 days after the nhl starts! unlucky for me but still atleast there is a season!!! Go wings
