Even if they don't win they will be awesome to watch Seriously. So unfortunate that the D and G situation is a dumpster fire I got Ray Whitney in our fake draft last night. I am expecting a billion points on that PP Don't underestimate Dubnyk! I really think he is going to have a good year! Sure he isn't going to like Pekka Rinne or Quick but he will be a solid goalie for them imo. As for the D.... well if Dubnyk stands on his head and the offence light up the score board who needs a D line They will at least be an entertaining team to watch with all of that young talent. but I do expect them to make the playoffs this year at least. Don't think they will go far but they should be able to sneak in. Sadly the same can't be said for my Canadiens T.T What a fucking train wreck.... Subban not even gonna be signed by the start of the first game.. let a lone be in game shape with practice etc. At least we can dump Gomez's salary and have some room to work with next season... Worst case they bomb this season again and might be able to grab Jones or Mackinnon. On another note, Hockey fans watch out for Max Domi in a couple years! Saw him play for Ontario at the last Canada Games in Halifax. Kid was disgustingly good. skills of Sundin with the spirit and grit of his dad. Also PK Subbans other brother Jordan(Not Malcolm the Goalie) Looked great there too, could turn out to be a solid D in the future.

Are the Leafs contending for 30th place ? if they are .. i approve! Nazim Kadri is awful... hopefully, the Leafs keep him as a starter all year long Connelly on waivers and Lombardi traded for essentially "cap relief"... GREAT MOVES! Next, what we need is The Leafs need to find a 20 year old goalie and "develop him" at the NHL level then get Nonis to stare straight into the camera and say "we're developing our young goaltenders"

Kadri isn't awful and deserves a fair chance. Randy is looking for balanced scoring in the lineup because he doesn't have the proper personnel for a shutdown line. I have no problem with Reimer and Scrivens either. Before the concussion Reimer was pretty solid and I'm sure he'll be able to find some level of consistency. He does need work on that glove side though. On January 19 2013 15:50 Taku wrote: Show nested quote + On January 19 2013 13:25 GolemMadness wrote: Edler signs six years for $30 million. Good stuff. That's not much of a discount man considering the injury he's coming off from and he'll never truly be the same player. 1/3 of their cap is in their D and for five years. It's a bit of a stretch.

There is no magic in the random draft-a-great-player-in-the-4th round cupboard anymore and Howard, Kronwall and Erickson cant handle more than support player roles. And Datsyuk and Zetterberg cant do it all by themselves anymore. The real problem is there are neither goalies nor defensemen in the system that are NHL ready. At least there are some forwards like Tatar and Nyquist that they can bring up once they realize they arent going anywhere this year and waive Samuelson, Bertuzizi. Maybe theyll do something totally wild and move Franzen while he still has some value.

As a lifelong Avalanche fan I sure did enjoy that game in St. Louis, 6-0 is exactly what I like to see when the Wings play. XD All ribbing aside I don't really know if ol' #5 would have changed much tonight. The Blues are on the up and up and have a ton of momentum this season (case in point the hot new rookie Tarasenko with 2 goals on his first 2 shots in his NHL debut... wtf) , and the Wings... well Sub40 put it well enough, they're probably going to need to make some drastic moves to prolong the inevitable shift in attitude, but the rebuilding years are coming around the corner for hockey town me thinks. And believe me I know how that goes, watching the Avs go from that solid veteran squad to a scrambling, immature, but talented rebuilding team. Side note, Datsyuk managed to end up +/- 0 tonight... in a 6-0 shitstorm. He's such an awesome player.

Forwards they have some talent such as the two you mentioned and Brunner who tore up the Swiss league. I wish I was able to see the game so I could evaluate how the team is overall better then just stats and what people have written ><

Oh well. It was a nice run they had from 96-2009. After that they faked it well enough for another two years. Maybe they back into the playoffs this year before getting smoked 4-1 again. I guess what troubles me is that Holland really doesnt seem to have much of a plan in place. Always cobbling together teams with projects and castoffs. But I guess after 14-15 years of being a top 3 team its hard to stack up draft picks.

Erickson and Quincey are 3rd pairing defense men playing 5-10 minutes too much and it shows when people walk through them. Howard is serviceable but he isnt one of those "I am ready to face 40 shots a game every game" guys. Franzen is too slow, Samuelson is even slower (I literally have no idea why they resigned him except as some kind of meta-game to get Lidstrom back). Kronwall is not a pass moving dman no matter how hard Holland wills it, Erickson will never use his gigantic size and Ian White does what he can but he is smaller than Datsyuk. Oh well. People love to rave about the Wings scouting but you can't hit so good in the draft the way they did without some luck. Howard I wouldn't worry about. He isn't one to carry a shit defense consistently but he put up good numbers with the Wings horrible D last year. They need a couple of quality D men badly and for the forwards to commit to what they were doing defensively back when they won their last SC and went to the finals the year after. I know they missed out on Suter but I wonder if any good D men are FA this year? Or maybe Holland will sacrifice some of that forward talent prospects they have in a trade (would rather not this as Z and D aren't getting any younger)
