that's why humans invented the work week. don't spend your work/school days goofing off and hold off until the weekend or the very very end of your day. you can do everything on your second list in a single week, multiple times a week even, and still have SO MUCH TIME to do stuff on your first list.

Even the workaholic associate dean at my school (who works in excess of 90 hours a week because she honestly enjoys it) advocates setting time apart to allow your mind to do nothing. I did something similar to this over a year ago when my grad school classes turned brutal. I didn't allow myself to have a stress outlet (other than finishing the work) and wound up burning myself out after about three months. For the following two months I had a complete collapse of productivity, completed minimal lab work (only doing mindless tests), and spent virtually all my free time watching anime on netflix. It took a while to get back on track. While it is intelligent to bring balance to your life by wasting less time on the internet, don't make the mistake of giving yourself no breaks.

Don't forget guys he intends to spend a large portion of time simply meditating. That and taking a nap is about a good of a break as you can possibly get.

Not using the internet is another thing. He'll still have to check his emails. If he finds a way to break the addiction habit, withdrawl symptoms are going to start kicking in. He'll try to sleep in bed rather than work on his courses. And then he tacks on no smoking. What do you think he's going to want to do as soon as he gets stressed out by all the things he's put off and the feelings of failure every time he tries something and it doesn't work? Or when his withdrawl symptoms start kicking in? This is setting yourself up for failure. It's not smart. If you want to improve your life you need a better plan.

The problem with trying to quit cold turkey like this is in my experience it just doesn't work. Just not fapping is difficult because after a few weeks (personal self control test in high school) you just start having series of wet dreams. I quit for lent a year ago and experienced nothing even close to this (went 50 days). Besides one unfortunate case of blue balls there really weren't any physical side effects besides becoming overwhelmingly horny on a number of occasions. Maybe it's different for different people (or if you're closer to puberty) or if there really is a psychological dependence. Quitting cold turkey is possible; it's all a matter of discipline. Chances are one would crack under the pressure because the current amount of discipline they display is not great. It's like trying to run a marathon when the only training you've done is walking around the block once. While I support OP trying to do this, I still urge him to keep my last post in mind and have multiple stress outlets while looking for a balanced lifestyle.

Learning a skill like playing the guitar is bullshit? How so? It's more productive than playing video games. If he gets regular important emails, I think that's fine. It's not like he's mindlessly browsing reddit or porn. Um, I can vouch for smoking cigarettes cold turkey. It was simple. I believe human beings are just generally weak, but if one has a strong mindset, one does not need assistance from bullshit. Newsflash, internet has not always existed from the dawn of man and people actually lived without it and *gasp* were generally happy without it, probably for the better. Men were actually strong and social and didn't need to read tips on how to pickup women from keyboard jockeys. He might be setting up for failure if he doesn't have a plan, but at least he has resolutions. What are yours again, everybody? Just a bunch of negative posts for this poor, aspiring guy. I really don't find it surprising as this is a site for gaming and most of you live inside your bro caves. Not exactly the site for outdoor living. With all that, good luck to you bro. Glad you're trying to better yourself. Hope you succeed.

Unless you think you might one day become a guitar teacher for a period of time it's just doing something for pleasure, same as a video game. I've never smoked cigarettes before(tried weed once, and had relatives that smoked) so I shouldn't comment on that. My bad. I don't know how the rest of what you said about internet jockeys has relevance to any of my posts so I'll assume it was for someone else. This is a site for gamers. No shit. Do you realize how hypocritical you sound though calling us dicks? When you say we live in caves? Are you seriously accusing me of not having resolutions? Do you know anything about me? No one on this site was mean. We all want what's best for the OP but some of us think he's taking too much of what gives him intrinsic pleasure away from his life. I don't care if he wants to remove wasteful habits from his life, I just don't think his plan will work. I can lie and say I think it will. I won't.

it is end of day 3 now smoking - i have not smoked or thought about it. VERY tight mental lockdown on it. wanking - i have masturbated but not let myself orgasm food - i have been strict paleo/unprocessed plus bread. not touched anything except veg, fruit, chicken and tortilla , and rice , plus a few "healthy" sandwiches at work. and like salsa sauce/ketchup . well thats my version of strict paleo time allocation - i have spent almost all my time in bed (like 13 hours straight) or at work. this will gradually change as i figure it out and get more energy entertainment - no web browsing, only watched something whilst eating. its AMAZING how many times you find yourself about to click up on tlnet or facebook. you catch yourself do it then just dont look at the sidebar/threads and close it before you spend any time there. sleep - easy to bedtime at 10pm when you are not "into anything" like reading or watching stuff. with those addictions free from your background mind, you dont have anything dragging you back. tonight SUCKS because my back hurts SO FUCKING MUCH (doctors on wednesday) i spent 2 hours after work trying to track down some painkillers so its 22:20 already now ffs to those who were wondering/talking shit, the reason you have to do "everything at once" is because everything is so closely tied to everything else. wanking is tied to browsing net is tied to watching stuff is tied to eating junk food is tied to smoking is tied to staying up too late is all tied to lack of time management and lack of energy etc. you cant simply cut one thing out and hope you keep up the resolve for that one thing when your mind is 90% focused on doing shitty things already. instead, if you are 100% focused on doing proper things and 0% focused on shitty things, then it is a LOT easier to maintain that 0% when all your activities are similarly focused, and when you DO slip up with one thing then you have only slipped up by 10% instead of 100% . the only problem with this philosophy is that the mental state you have to be in in order to initiate this in the first place is quite rare. but if your mental state is strong enough to decide to quit smoking then its a great time to try to attempt to perfect everything else next 3 days aim - keep stress low and resolve high (fucking hard when my back is hurting like this. and i need to gym tomorrow), start to reallocate time, keep mental lockout on the smoking (dont ask me how i do it), REMEMBER that i am not doing this for the sake of the things that i am doing but for the sake of the things that i will be able to do/achieve
