While this thread is labeled "DotA2", this is in fact a community thread first. Many of the users in the TL LoL subforum have been playing as friends for over a year now, so it makes logical sense that they would want to play other games together.
Do not compare DotA2 to LoL, you will get banned.
TL LoL veterans know what is expected. Newcomers be warned.

For some reason I have an odd obsession with Vengeful Spirit. Like I just love everything about her. I dont even know why. Best I can figure the combination of a stun, the ability to be stupidly suicidal, and the troll potential of her ult is just too much.
Anyone have a good guide for actually learning to play her? Max stun, then howl of terror, then aura, grabbing ulti whenever you can. VS is usually the support bitch. For items, you want to be the one buying the courier/wards. Otherwise you can build basically anything; support items like Force staff, mek, urn, medallion, etc...are generally what you want to aim for. Scepter can be a nice luxury item if you get the gold, but it's highly unlikely you'll ever get that much gold. Please don't buy Mek on VS.
In the odd chance you don't have a caster to buy Mek, it should be bought on defensive supports. Someone like ES or VS will be seeing too much action early on in the fight for it to be easily usable.

Support items. pffff. Imma play that bitch like Xboxt. Carry VS all day long.

I've been watching some DotA casts recently and I just want to say that this guy TobiWan may rival Tastosis/Day[9] for casting awesomeness.

At least just buy aga/force/lothar for max trolling.

Good games today everyone.
Turns out my carry VS is BAWS- Vanguard, Butterfly, Manta gg~

Oh man just tried out Spirit Breaker today.... Charge across entire map npnp. I think I levelled wrong order though...E is one-point wonder, got points in Q and W then I levelled R>W>Q=E but it should be Q first for faster charge, shouldn't it?
Also about recommended items.....are they pretty good for DotA2? I'm just starting to get the items straight now but have no idea what's a good build or not so I've pretty much been following them exactly....loving that Urn of Shadow on Spirit Breaker, btw.

Unless you are vengeful spirit, they aren't terrible. They are kinda on the same level as LoL - telling you what your role is, not the best items are.
But venge... *facepalm*

I remember playing dota when i was 13, I loved Rooftrellen, walking around being a tree was pretty baws when he had infinity lasting wards.
So nostalgic, I would be up for some dota 1 some time but then again I probally wouldn't be taking my time with it, though when and if I get around to dota 2 I'm gonna be pudging again :3
Good initiative, might also still the "war" between the 2 games
I remember my first sucess was with Dagon/mekasm necro'lic, super fun times

They aren't too bad, I don't like a lot of the starting item recommendations though and for a lot of heroes you are building items to counter the other team, rather than a standard build like you would likely do in LoL. My advice is to try look up better builds if possible but for your first time on a hero it wont really make that much of a difference as the recommendations they give are mostly solid.

Your intuition is correct. R>W>Q>E, with 1 point E.
I don't really like Urn that much on SB but I also don't play him much. Phases->Janggo->Yasha->BKB->S&Y I think is the smoothest way to build him (Phases+Janggo+Yasha is the best way to get 522 MS while also getting a comfortable mix of fighting stats, and you upgrade Yasha to S&Y after you've run out your Janggo charges, so you retain your ability to get 522 MS).

I think the 'starting' items are usually pretty decent, even if the core/situatonal lists get a bit wonky. On almost every hero it's just your basic regen pack(tango, salve, clarity or 2) with either branches, +3 stats, or Stout. For people brand new to the game who can't decide based on which lane they're going to be in, and what their lane matchup/dynamic will be, they're pretty on the ball.

I don't think I can consider starting item lists that recommend QB starts a significant fraction of the time "pretty on the ball".

There's also not enough GG braches in most of them that's why so many games are bad in MM xD

This will hopefully be a good game; if you're part of the steam group, join the chat and we can nerd out about it together. (And we can help explain some stuff, maybe)

What's the proper way to use an urn? In what situations do you want to use the damage compared to the heal, and how many charges do you want to keep saved in general, or does it matter? Is it comparable to ignite?

You generally don't want to stockpile charges, because kills/assists are worth 2 charges when your urn is empty, and only 1 if it has any charges in it.
As far as when to use it as what, it's fairly straightforward because of how the heal breaks on hero/tower damage. Use it as a nuke in fights, use it as a heal after fights/for sustaining pushes.
