While this thread is labeled "DotA2", this is in fact a community thread first. Many of the users in the TL LoL subforum have been playing as friends for over a year now, so it makes logical sense that they would want to play other games together.
Do not compare DotA2 to LoL, you will get banned.
TL LoL veterans know what is expected. Newcomers be warned.

i have a dota2 key. i've played about 3 games. i was an avid dota player. i remember dota in the wc3 engine was definitely not as smooth running as LoL. but in LoL i get 60 fps on low settings and the game runs without a hitch. in dota 2 it feels EXTREMELY clunky compared to LoL. like to the point that i don't even want to play because i can't last hit or anything. is that just me not used to the archaic wc3 feel again, or has dota 2 not been graphically optimized for slower computers or something? if there's a way to make it run more properly on my pc, i'd like to do that before i dive in and spend some time on it.
that being said, the thing i've yearned for in LoL ever since i hit level 10 or so and had finally seen most of the champs in the game, is storm spirit. i love his mobility and just his entire playstyle. REALLY wish they'd kept him as a panda instead of that fat mexican or whatever he is now. so hopping back into dota 2 - what a really simple pubby build i can do on storm spirit that will make me fly around the map and have all the fun?
and lastly, i haven't played dota since the ice apparition was added (and i don't remember all of the old champs either!). is there anything that compared to riven in dota? really love playing riven, would like to try something similar
edit: also, it turns out my steam name is "guitarasaurus" not "gtrsrs" if you want to update that. and i don't know how to copy my steam profile but if you tell me how i will do so!
I dunno I just feel their servers are pretty laggy. On my satellite broadband I get like 400ms to LoL EU servers and 200 to LoL SEA servers. But apparently my ping to dota singapore servers is more than my LoL eu servers lol. And I get equal ping on both singapore and NA, and like 700ms in hongkong & EU etc which is ridiculous. Plenty of people from india who use a lined connection have reported ping anywhere from 70-400ms.
Edit: also my steam name is the same as the TL account name

Yup apparently steam name is Killiani. If I ever get a legit key it'll be different.

so, I guess I'll post my steam info here, even tho about 90% of the DotA2 time on there is my brother's not mine (i play every once in awhile tho).
i have no idea what my profile name is atm, it was Super Supau, tho it's kinda bounced back and forth between that and whatever shit my bro changes it too, but the link is this one: http://steamcommunity.com/id/SuperSupau
anyways, now I actually have a lot of motivation to move forward in D2, tho. A large portion of what's keeping me in LoL atm is SG, and this subforum, now that 1 of those is getting on board for D2, I may end up playing more.

I really like this thread's initiative. If I get a key sometime soon that would be awesome ^^. I've been doing some reading and the amount of learning you need to do (like a whole new set of items) seems daunting but I've already done it once with LoL.

I gotta say that I honestly didn't expect that outcome. Also so far we basically only have Americans in that list, lol.
For those who use shared accounts and stuff, it probably makes more sense to just chill in the ingame channel and working from there when you have access to an account. <3

dnastyx just made me look like a tard for trying to get everyone to add each other when it makes much more sense to...
CREATE A DAMN STEAMGROUP.
It's invite only and really unshiney: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/lpdota
Add dnastyx / me and bug us if we forgot to add you to the group. Gonna add some more officers asap once some people join in.

gtr, what is it about Riven that you are wanting in a DotA2 hero? One of the hardest things to pinpoint when people ask this is what exactly they see the champion as, because people play things differently. You play 5s a lot so I'd assume you see her as a melee carry with decent lane control that offsets her fairly long buildup to carry status, but a description like that is probably a great thing to add when asking "what hero is like this champ." Many times there really is just not a close match(and there may not be any exact matches, I'd have to think about it) so you need to pick the part that really draws you to a champion and get something similar there instead.

i think the hardest thing to replicate about riven is her lack of resource management. I can't think of any champs in DotA that don't have mana (been awhile tho), or even really anything that's even 'spammable' from LoL's persepective.

There are no manaless heroes in DotA, there's a few that actually are fairly spammy(relative to DotA's typical spell usage) but none that are melee, or at least not melee carries.

I use a friend's steam account (xcetron) to play dota. I have like 20+ games already. Only "know" how to play windrunner :p. If anyone wanna add me.

i like her low cool-downs which lead to split-second decision making (i.e. saving your E to block a pantheon spear) and her mobility, primarily. also, yeah, the melee-carry who crushes lategame after a little bit of investment is pretty cool. from dota, the melee champs i loved were bloodseeker (more like ww i suppose), riki, and juggernaut.

The game isn't optimized for lower end pc's yet so it doesn't run too well on them. There's also noticeable turn speeds in dota2, at least compared to LoL so it feels a bit less smooth because of them.

Nerubian Weaver and Morphling, while not melee, are agility carries that very much emphasize these qualities in their play. Weaver also has cooldowns that are quite low.

yeah, i remember heroes like jakiro and lich had extreme turning speeds which is something i disliked, but i don't remember most of the heroes that i frequently played (storm, seeker, spirit breaker) having huge turning times so i chalked up the sluggishness to my computer. good to hear that it just hasn't been optimized, hopefully it will run a bit better when it's fully released!

yes! i remember loving weaver. he was great. morphling required too much micro, lol. 2 units is 1 unit too many. same reason i was awful at chen and meepo. i'll definitely give weaver another swing.
