I'd like to be able to take my interests to another level with the RL people around me, but it isn't meant to be I guess ^^ This is probably the most wise solution, the other route is to call them out on their bullshit. Just call them fucking terrible everytime they say something, what are they gonna do challenge you to a game? lol!

So many of my RL friends who have seen me play legitimately don't understand why I don't drop out of school and go pro. I'm only diamond in NA haha. There is also someone who insists that I do "Let's plays" of sc2...

I try to link them the usual mastabatory bw videos of what pro looks like but they just don't understand. But you're so good! No i'm not. No seriously! No, seriously. Deezer could beat me without stream cheating. I'm not that good.

Yep, if you've beaten them then anything you say is automatically more valid than anything they say. Furthermore if you've beaten a master then you're now master and if that master had ever beaten a grandmaster then he's really grandmaster which means you're grandmaster, you just didn't play enough to grind your way there.

But yeah, in engaging conversations with friends who play starcraft, I may bring up this strategy or something that I saw some top players do, then tell them where I learned it to try to convince them to maybe try to get them to at least look at the competitive scene, and I actually have gotten one of my friends to watch some of MLG back at Anaheim, I think i got him to watch Boxer vs MMA.

To be fair, observing games do not help you out much with a game as mechanically demanding as SC2. They have a better approach to improving at the game.

"You know what's good at holding off Cloaked Banshees? Broodlords." I have no idea what the hell was happening in his head that led him to say this, but needless to say, my other friend and I were laughing our asses off.

Another friend and I (both Diamond) were discussing the pros and cons of holding off the cloaked Banshee variant of the 1/1/1 in ZvT without getting Lair tech. Classy as every, my Bronze friend walks up and says with a smirk on his face, "You know what's good at holding off Cloaked Banshees? Broodlords." His biggest complaint is when a guy "attacks me really early...like 7 minutes...and his teammate makes a lot of air." I'm always left thinking wtf

I was referring to a combination of spectating and playing being more beneficial than just playing and having no idea of the competitive scene and evolving metagame at all.

When someone comes up with something like that im always like "oh really? that works? can u teach me how? i go banshee and you hold it off" then they get totally smashed i had a little fun and most of the time the realize on their own that it was a fucking stupid idea..... so i dont have to be like "dude you know ....i mean ... that is retarded" so i dont run risk in hurting their ego. edit: typo

To be honest, the best friends I've found so far in this game are the people I meet on ladder. I have a whole friends list of practice partners.
