I have been winning a lot of games recently in my lowly bronze league. I have been watching my replays, looking at them critically, my hand speed has been improving and getting more familiar with the game in general. This has lead to some pretty decisive wins. However now that I am winning more I am noticing that not many people surrender with a gg.
This bothers me because I know when I quit without a gg it's because playing that game, and losing as I did, felt crappy. I don't want my opponents to feel crappy after I play them. Starcraft is a game and games should be fun.
It could either be that or they could just be bad mannered and that kind of rubs me the wrong way. That's life though. I just don't want to make the game unfun for people.
That's all I wanted to say....
Cheers -=Hyyde=-

Failing to GG before leaving a game isn't necessarily bad manner. Sometimes people just want to move on and get to the next ladder game during a practice regimen. People cope with losses differently.
Having someone actively BM you is worse, I think.

Well the people who don't gg when they lose are not having a good time obviously, and so you not wanting them to find the game "unfun" try not to win. There is really nothing that you can do though, people are always going to be frustrated when they lose. This plagues all leagues all the way up to to top. Some players appreciate when their opponent played well, and others don't.

If you're in bronze, it might also be possible that people don't actually know how to gg - if they're new to the game and everything. That or they don't feel the need to bother with gging.
|
I still prefer people who doesnt gg, to those that gg when they win, before you do! Fuck them!

This is very true. This even goes up to Gold league. Some people don't know the Starcraft etiquette. I'd take it with a grain of salt that they don't GG.

I only gg if the game was well played, exciting, involved something more than a typical ladder game

That thought did occur to me but eight in a row is most likely something else.
Also to the other posts I don't expect people to be happy when they lose but I don't want them to be overly upset either. I am still going to try to win but I would prefer that it was not a negative experience for anyone.

Most people in dia+ gg surrender. If that's any consolation...

Well I'm just gonna say it's got to do with league.
People probably aren't even aware of glhf and gg in bronze/silver. Although you will run into people sometimes who do gg, it is rare

Oh for fuck's sake not another one of these blogs. What is it with SC2/BW players these days ? Everyone is such a crybaby now. I blame ICCUP with this report bm nonsense that created this new culture of attention whores and cry babies.
Oh God, I miss the good old days on US East/West when you could just jump into a pub game and call the host a faggot and no one gave a shit not even the host. Shit, sometimes you'd tell a guy how much you wanna rape his mom and kill his family in a game today and tomorrow, you're smashin noobs together and rubbing it in their faces when they get raped. No one gave a shit. It was a rough online culture and very enjoyable because of it.
What do we have today ? Goddamn cry babies. Guy calls you a noob and what do you do ? Fuckin report him and make essays on the report bm forums on ICCUP. God I miss the old rough days. You guys need to stop...seriously.

I don't understand this, sure when i was 14 i participated in some of that and found it enjoyable, but you have some serious growing up to do when you say you miss telling someone you're going to rape his/her mom. You need to grow the fuck up... seriously.

It was that type of attitude that drove me into custom games when I played BW. IT would not bother me if someone did the stuff you are talking about now but I don't want to be that person for anyone else at all, in any way if I can help it.

Lol @ your idea of a "rough online culture." SC isn't a biker bar, lol. BMers are not badass manly men with tattoos and a woman in each arm picking knife fights with each other. They're a bunch of pasty nerds sitting behind computer screens typing random, senseless insults while being protected by their anonymity in order to let off steam because they're too spineless to confront anyone that pisses them off in real life. Get over your insecurities about your lack of masculinity and maybe you'll understand why most people don't get off on acting like they're 12.
To OP: I know that personally, when I leave without a GG, it's because I'm so embarrassed by my loss that I just don't even feel like acknowledging that the game just happened with a "gg." I don't do it out of impoliteness, just out of shame, lol. So it's not always about being a jerk. Leaving without a gg is pretty much the most minor BM in the game. It doesn't really bother me.

It's just ladder. If people want to shit talk, then let them. Don't like it? You can ignore them. If you ignore them, they will go away. There is a block communication feature that Blizzard made, so instead of complaining just use it. If someone says I'm a noob faggot, then so be it. I can either BM them back, ignore the comment, or block them. I agree with you SarR.
Also, I just got promoted to masters today, and I must say that maybe half my games at the most we say gl/hf/gg/etc at the start. I rarely gg a game that is under 12 minutes, and I don't expect it back, because it's not a good game, and generally I am frustrated at myself for losing to their all-in. A good game has T3 units and 4+ bases each, with huge battles, harassment, etc., and they probably get a WP at the end too.

I actually totally agree with SarR, half the fun of playing on US East/West is just shit talking. People make such a big deal of what we call each other over the internet. Why can't we just call anyone we want to fags? It is just ladder, it doesn't mean that much.
|
rule of thumb: If somebody does an offensive GG, fight to the bitter end. make extractors at every base, float buildings everywhere, put pylons where he'll never think to look. An offensive gg is tantamount to saying "look, i beat you, just give me my points already." Make him work for those points.
edit: wow SarR.
You miss the good old days when nobody cared if people acted like assholes? Almost makes me glad i wasn't around...

Aside from the fact that you are passively contributing to a culture of homophobia/discrimination (another topic), it doesn't bother me so much as it makes you look stupid and immature. I mean, I guess it's whatever if you're okay with that, but I don't know what the point is.
