I have been winning a lot of games recently in my lowly bronze league. I have been watching my replays, looking at them critically, my hand speed has been improving and getting more familiar with the game in general. This has lead to some pretty decisive wins. However now that I am winning more I am noticing that not many people surrender with a gg.
This bothers me because I know when I quit without a gg it's because playing that game, and losing as I did, felt crappy. I don't want my opponents to feel crappy after I play them. Starcraft is a game and games should be fun.
It could either be that or they could just be bad mannered and that kind of rubs me the wrong way. That's life though. I just don't want to make the game unfun for people.
That's all I wanted to say....
Cheers -=Hyyde=-

Failing to GG before leaving a game isn't necessarily bad manner. Sometimes people just want to move on and get to the next ladder game during a practice regimen. People cope with losses differently.
Having someone actively BM you is worse, I think.
|
Well the people who don't gg when they lose are not having a good time obviously, and so you not wanting them to find the game "unfun" try not to win. There is really nothing that you can do though, people are always going to be frustrated when they lose. This plagues all leagues all the way up to to top. Some players appreciate when their opponent played well, and others don't.
|
If you're in bronze, it might also be possible that people don't actually know how to gg - if they're new to the game and everything. That or they don't feel the need to bother with gging.
|
I still prefer people who doesnt gg, to those that gg when they win, before you do! Fuck them!

This is very true. This even goes up to Gold league. Some people don't know the Starcraft etiquette. I'd take it with a grain of salt that they don't GG.
|
I only gg if the game was well played, exciting, involved something more than a typical ladder game

That thought did occur to me but eight in a row is most likely something else.
Also to the other posts I don't expect people to be happy when they lose but I don't want them to be overly upset either. I am still going to try to win but I would prefer that it was not a negative experience for anyone.
|
Most people in dia+ gg surrender. If that's any consolation...
|
Well I'm just gonna say it's got to do with league.
People probably aren't even aware of glhf and gg in bronze/silver. Although you will run into people sometimes who do gg, it is rare

Oh for fuck's sake not another one of these blogs. What is it with SC2/BW players these days ? Everyone is such a crybaby now. I blame ICCUP with this report bm nonsense that created this new culture of attention whores and cry babies.
Oh God, I miss the good old days on US East/West when you could just jump into a pub game and call the host a faggot and no one gave a shit not even the host. Shit, sometimes you'd tell a guy how much you wanna rape his mom and kill his family in a game today and tomorrow, you're smashin noobs together and rubbing it in their faces when they get raped. No one gave a shit. It was a rough online culture and very enjoyable because of it.
What do we have today ? Goddamn cry babies. Guy calls you a noob and what do you do ? Fuckin report him and make essays on the report bm forums on ICCUP. God I miss the old rough days. You guys need to stop...seriously.

I don't understand this, sure when i was 14 i participated in some of that and found it enjoyable, but you have some serious growing up to do when you say you miss telling someone you're going to rape his/her mom. You need to grow the fuck up... seriously.

It was that type of attitude that drove me into custom games when I played BW. IT would not bother me if someone did the stuff you are talking about now but I don't want to be that person for anyone else at all, in any way if I can help it.

Lol @ your idea of a "rough online culture." SC isn't a biker bar, lol. BMers are not badass manly men with tattoos and a woman in each arm picking knife fights with each other. They're a bunch of pasty nerds sitting behind computer screens typing random, senseless insults while being protected by their anonymity in order to let off steam because they're too spineless to confront anyone that pisses them off in real life. Get over your insecurities about your lack of masculinity and maybe you'll understand why most people don't get off on acting like they're 12.
To OP: I know that personally, when I leave without a GG, it's because I'm so embarrassed by my loss that I just don't even feel like acknowledging that the game just happened with a "gg." I don't do it out of impoliteness, just out of shame, lol. So it's not always about being a jerk. Leaving without a gg is pretty much the most minor BM in the game. It doesn't really bother me.

It's just ladder. If people want to shit talk, then let them. Don't like it? You can ignore them. If you ignore them, they will go away. There is a block communication feature that Blizzard made, so instead of complaining just use it. If someone says I'm a noob faggot, then so be it. I can either BM them back, ignore the comment, or block them. I agree with you SarR.
Also, I just got promoted to masters today, and I must say that maybe half my games at the most we say gl/hf/gg/etc at the start. I rarely gg a game that is under 12 minutes, and I don't expect it back, because it's not a good game, and generally I am frustrated at myself for losing to their all-in. A good game has T3 units and 4+ bases each, with huge battles, harassment, etc., and they probably get a WP at the end too.
|
I actually totally agree with SarR, half the fun of playing on US East/West is just shit talking. People make such a big deal of what we call each other over the internet. Why can't we just call anyone we want to fags? It is just ladder, it doesn't mean that much.
|
rule of thumb: If somebody does an offensive GG, fight to the bitter end. make extractors at every base, float buildings everywhere, put pylons where he'll never think to look. An offensive gg is tantamount to saying "look, i beat you, just give me my points already." Make him work for those points.
edit: wow SarR.
You miss the good old days when nobody cared if people acted like assholes? Almost makes me glad i wasn't around...

Aside from the fact that you are passively contributing to a culture of homophobia/discrimination (another topic), it doesn't bother me so much as it makes you look stupid and immature. I mean, I guess it's whatever if you're okay with that, but I don't know what the point is.
|
Honestly even though the people who offensive gg are starting the BM, the best response is still to just gg out. If you leave without a gg, they've successfully trolled you, and if you go around extractoring and what not it just gives them time to talk more shit, so either way they get what they want out of an offensive gg if you dont just gg out.
|
I think you all are missing the point im making here. Let me put it a different way. The bottom line is that no one gave a shit about so called "bm". In the old days, there was no concept of "bm" in the manner it exists today.
When I talked about telling a guy you want to rape him mom, Im not trying to say it was cool or manly or any shit like that. I also said in that sentence that you'd probably end up gaming together with him the next day. Why ? Because back then no one really cared about some stranger you're never going to meet calling you a faggot or a noob or threating your family. This is the idea im trying to get across.
It was normal for bnetters online to be total dicks to each other. Even amongst friends. The BGH community that was Marlboro is a very good example of this. There were about 60 or so regulars in that channel and its a guarantee that anytime you went there, you'd see two or more engaged in a heated name calling shitstorm because someone on a team didnt pull their weight or some shit like that. Then someone would come along and call for an inny and boom everyone is playing together again. No one is crying about bm and blogging about it. And no one ever left crying and saying they wont come back or any kinda shit like that.
This is what I miss. Today, you gotta walk on eggshells with these new kids. What the hell do you care that someone you're never gonna meet irl doesnt gg or call you fag.

I dunno, one time I got an exasperated "fuck your mother ~_~" from some Korean after I drew the game out after his offensive GG. People generally don't like having their time wasted.

Two letters shouldn't be important. The fact it is to some is annoying to me.
It's merely a tradition that I wish would lose its fire. I don't mind GG in and of itself, but the fact people argue over it is pretty bad. It's really up to the individual interpretation, and it isn't even consistent across games.
Leaving is the sign of giving up, GG isn't. Oh lord, it isn't...And don't let authority control what you do; just because a progamer does it doesn't mean that it's wrong or right.

My friend, if you were there, trust me you would have enjoyed it. The moderation free environment of the old bnet created one on the most interesting online communities ive ever had to pleasure of spending time with. You just have to not give a shit. There was just sooo much personality there. ICCUP by comparison, although a great server, really has no personality because you could get banned for bullshit like calling someone a noob so there are no really interesting interactions because no one can really speak their mind.

I never say gg
I don't see the point
|
bronze leaguers generally arent the most well mannered
|
|
If people all in me or cheese me I do not gg because it is not a gg how ever if you out play me in a macro game then I will gg. GG should be earned not given out freely.
|
IMO GGs are like handshakes. They're done in professional settings, with people you know, but when it's, say, a random generic accounter at like a supermarket, no handshake is required to seal the deal. Ladder just feels to generic and automated for the personalized gg, but often can have it if you're feeling particularly friendly.
|
I don't cheese, these were all longer games in the order of 15 to 25 minutes. I don't gg on cheese either but it is a simple courtesy like shaking hands after a game in almost any other sport. In fact I would argue that the less you know someone the more courteous you should be. I am more likely to obey the formalities in sports when I play with strangers than I am with friends.
|
I don't often receive GGs. On ladder, it's not a big deal, and I just assume the person wants to get out of the game and move to the next one asap.
In a tourney it's a different thing altogether, because it's not an anonymous ladder matchup.
|
I really don't care at all. I don't play random games to have people like me, I'm playing them to learn. I don't gg, or even gl hf unless I'm playing a tournament or friends, and I just assume all my opponents think the same way. Sometimes even if I have won and the opponent is drawing out the game hiding pylons or whatnot I will leave the game just because I am playing to improve, not make friends or have a nice record.

well tbh iccup really wasn't meant to be the social environment blizz servers were
ur in there to play games and ladder. with the sc2 one it's kinda different though because u have a community of both casual players and 'tryhards' (no offense intended) so u end up confused on what ur opponent really meant by gging or not gging. iccup and other private ladders kept the serious players confined to their own environment where the pro scene and many of the sc customs were developed.
@OP: just don't worry about it. concentrate on improving ur game and not what ur opponents say or don't say (unless it helps u improve in some way).
anyway, the old days were mad stupid. it was mostly a bunch of people who thought they were good playing fastest/bgh and actually caring about whos joke play was better.
|
i never say anything while playing, not when it starts and not when it ends. I have other forums to socialize in. When i play i just want to play and i consider my opponent nothing else than a name on a computer screen.
|
The only time when I don't gg is usually when I press my F10 N button too fast I usually think I typed GG but I don't think about it much since I want to go into my next game.
What I do hate is when people start talking to you saying GG whether or not you said GG yourself. That's just BM in my eyes.
|
When people just leave the game, I just type 'GG', I don't need them to GG, they can just leave the game, who cares?
