Q: What is this thread?
A: General purpose, SC2 discussion thread.
Q: What should I be posting about? A: Basically, anything you want to talk about but aren't sure if it warrants a topic of its own. Heard a rumour you want to share? A new video? A question you are sure is super common but can't find the answer to via searching? A brilliant new idea that you want to vet, to make sure it's really as brilliant as you think it is?
This is the place.
Note: Posting standards will not be as high as if you were to make a new thread, but pointless spam will still not be tolerated. I have seen threads like these work out alright on other sites (for other games) so I figured, why not give it a shot? It's possible there's not really enough content for something like this to exist at this point in time, but no harm then, it will just die on its own.

I'm just waiting to see how the infestors are used in the next few weeks.. It's going to be interesting to see what else it counters besides builds like VR Colossus.. And what it's place will be in Zvt, not just against mech.. It seems as though tanks and mech still can kill them so fast but bioballs die so quickly to fungal. Still looking for a bit more for zerg in the next patch, however, I could see an infestor build coming out soon... I kind of don't like the direction in sc2 though. As all the spells do not promote micro like Fungal growth. I wish we could see the return of more micro oriented units/spells.
I think the recent zerg drops from Idra and ret that were displayed in TSL were pretty amazing although they are very dependent on if they are scouted (similar to Brood Lords). I like the direction that zerg is headed in. Do you guys think that the Infestor will solve previous problems or will Overlord drops answer more problems? I've been experimenting with both.
And another question for myself, what's the best way to inject do you guys think with the introduction of the new hotkeys? I've been putting all my queens and Hatches on one hotkey but I haven't use the backspace method since I'm left handed. So, I've had to stick with the original hotkeys since I'm left handed and I've used the basic queen inject method.

Spanishiwa is putting infestors to pretty good use in his stream. He does a pressure/harass with banelings and infestors, and it works pretty well vs the standard turtle-push Protoss style that's taken over the ladder. I haven't seen too much from any of the other top-end players, but at the same time I'm not really looking.
As for injects, I replaced backspace with caps lock. My inject rotation is such:
[Queen hotkey] -> [Shift] -> [Inject hotkey + capslock simultaneously] -> [Capslock + inject repeating]
This way I can access all the hotkeys with my left hand without accelerating carpel tunnel's syndrome :O
edit: Spanishiwa's thread if you were curious

According to liquidpedia
Friendly Hallucinations can be targeted in 2v2 situations by Seeker Missiles. When the hallucinated unit dies (Through damage or elapsed time), the Seeker Missile will explode at its last location, providing increased accuracy for the projectile. So I was wondering could you use a hunter missile on an ally changeling then run that changeling into an enemy army?
If this works I would imagine this would be a neat tactic. The other team would of course try to kill a ling/rine/zlot with several seeker missiles chasing it, but that's only as long as they are currently paying attention to their army.

It's talking about hallucinations, not about changelings. ( and you can always try it out for yourself )

I'm just using that as a reference since I hadn't thought about using it to attack friendly units.
I can't test it out because of technical difficulties that prevent me from playing sc2.
Edit: According to additional notes on liquidpedia it can be cast on allied units so there should be no reason it can't target a changeling. Now I'm just curious how effective this would be in real team games, requires teamwork and a bit of chance or a distraction for the changeling to drag the SM(s) into the middle of their army.

I have one more question that I think applies to specifically zerg, but can apply to any race. Do you think the Notifications for when Chrono boosts, Spawn larvae, and Mules end help anyone? As a zerg player, I rarely ever notice the notifications and I'm trying to make it a habit to look for when my larvae pop. Do the notifications help you guys at all?

Oops, posted in the March thread right before it closed. Go me!
Anywho, This seems like a good place; I don't think it deserves it's own thread, so... I've noticed in the GSL (first) that during the battle, the observer could lower the UI (14:40 of MC versus morrow g1 http://www.gomtv.net/2011championship/vod/64030 ). I thought it was a mod that the GSL had done. However, I was watching the MLG stream earlier and saw it there too. Since I'm just now noticing it, I assume it came in with some of the other observer changes? I looked in the hotkeys list, and I don't see anything that might be it under the Observer or the UI tab. Does anyone have any information on this?

Whats the spire blunder I keep hearing about that happened at MLG?

I believe it was regarding Destiny's spire dying because it had no overlord spewing creep on it due to some sort of terrain bug.

It has helped me a bit, mostly just for learning the timing in my head. Now I've gotten a better feel of just how long the larvae injects last so I can know when to start going to my bases.

anyone else finding the mothership less fun now, the invulnerability cooldown patch has really made them a boring unit to use in the late game. the vortex's archon toilet and similar tactics gave some interesting micro to the late game protoss deathball. it feels like Blizzard are patching to stop tactics they didnt consider when creating the game that infact can create interesting matches away from the late game attack move and hope.
Video example of the good days of the mothership (long game, watch from 30:00 to see the late game brilliance i am talking about):+ Show Spoiler +

I thought about making a new thread about this but since the last thread about LAN support was closed instantly I will try it here first.
Idea for advocating LAN support
+ Show Spoiler [Why LAN support?] +This has been discussed often enough already so you can use the forum search for previous discussion. I will briefly sum up the arguments I think are the most important: - LAN support has been there and removing it feels like taking something away from the customers. While it is very unlikely that Blizzard suspends their online service for a game like other companies do, it supports the impression that the industry takes PC gaming freedom away.
- It has been shown several times since the release of SC2 that eSports events do in fact require LAN support. Western eSports organizers that organize SC2 events at fairs or in congress halls often must use ISPs that can not accommodate the load of video streaming and multiple games played simultaneously. As such, SC2 which is designed to be a game specifically for eSports should take this into account.
- While there are valid arguments for the removal of LAN support (piracy, control about tournaments), I think that the satisfaction of the community outweighs short term revenues. Success of Blizzard games was also carried by the community by hyping releases and continious (10 year+) support for older games compared to other games that cease to be hyped and sold after 1-2 months. Despite reasons against the LAN, a great majority of players would rate the removal of LAN support as a loss.
There is a petition ongoing about adding LAN support in SC2. There are several problems with it:
- I think no petition in these kind of sites has ever achieved anything.
- Noone can verify the true number of signatures because you can sign in multiple times. The number on the site is therefore meaningless.
- Only ardent fans that really care about the game sign it. Moreover you need to give your e-mail address away and many people do simply not know about this.
- It can be easily ignored by Blizzard by just not going on that site.
So my idea is based on the history of the phrase "Furthermore, I think Carthage must be destroyed" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carthago_delenda_est). The Roman statesman Cato the elder repeats this phrase so persistently until eventually Carthage was actually destroyed in the Third Punic War. We should, in every game after every gg (or before every ragequit) write into the chat "Furthermore, I think LAN support should be added" until Blizzard adds this. Here are the reasons why that might work:
- The formality of writing "hf gl" and "gg" has been traditionally a great example of eSports sportmanship. It is recognized and repeated from Bronze to Grandmaster League. If "Furthermore, I think LAN support should be added" could be spread like "gg", this would show that the SC2 community can mobilize for their course.
- It is very easy to voice your opion this way if you "gg" after every game in the first place.
- There might be a chance to make this viral. If many people adopt it, it might receive mainstream gaming media attention.
- Doing this repeatedly prevents this matter for being ignored. There is a public outcry each time LAN support might have benefited the flow of a tournament but Blizzard can simply sit it out and one week later everything is fine and forgotten.
- If pro players pick this line up and write it in streamed matches in tournaments where writing anything but "hf gl gg" is allowed (or otherwise in statements or in the end of interviews), everyone that follows SC2 as a spectator sport will be aware of the broad wish for LAN support. It does no harm to do this (we have no Kespa here).
TL;DR: "Furthermore, I think LAN support should be added" after every "gg".
What do you think of this idea?

Is TLO Terran full time, or is it just for current tournaments, or even just still being experimented with? I'm curious since I love TLO's play in general but I especially love him for playing Random.
The Liquipedia article still says Random, the MLG interview was basically 'no comment' and if you liquipedia link TLO it shows Terran so I'm just wondering if there was any official comment I've missed.
Edit: Forgot to mention, the fan club has him listed as Zerg too.
+ Show Spoiler [MLG Interview Quote] +MLG: You’ve experimented with different players more than just about anyone on the SC2 pro scene, moving from Terran, to Random, to Zerg, to Random and Terran. Have you decided on a race to play fulltime?
Liquid TLO: Oh well, I don't really wanna comment on that. I have been switching races and everything so many times now. Let's just say I will simply play what I feel most comfortable with.
