Its like they are offline, but i know they are not. Why? Well, it's either your internet connection, a hardware problem, or a software problem.

I'm already thinking a .267 GHz increase won't be that big of a deal, but in case it's not...

I'm pretty sure this isn't normal. Anyone have an idea why my cpu suddenly behaves so weirdly?

Yeah, considering 2x4 GB of 1333/1600mHz is often sold for $40, makes you wonder how much the 1333mHz kit is. On April 28 2012 16:54 Artline wrote: I have a i5 2500 cpu and when I first installed it SC2 worked really fine and used around 35% CPU. But today I realised that it used 100% CPU (all 4 cores) and my SC2 performance took a hit. (I can still play ultra but I notice some lag and FPS really fluctuates between 10 and around 80 (early game sceranio). Tried Prime95 for around 3 hours and noticed no problem. Load never goes above 20% when I don't have sc2 on. CPU temps 35 at idle and 70 when I am playing SC2. I'm pretty sure this isn't normal. Anyone have an idea why my cpu suddenly behaves so weirdly? Starcraft cannot use more than 2 cores maximum (50%) by itself. It also generally will have a lightly loaded second thread, so 40% maximum usage is more realistic. If you have 20% cpu usage at idle, that's a serious problem. You either have a virus or some unknown software raping your computer's resouces. Do you have an antivirus? Some are pretty bad, can do random scans that eat up your available processing power.

It's just that somehow sc2 eats up 100% cpu usage. When I play sc2 I turn off all other programs (although I shouldn't have to). I just realised that sometimes sc2 goes back to normal usage ~35% and keeps reversibly changing to periods of 100%. It's only when I get 100% when the fps drops like crazy.

CPU getting hammered and FPS dropping should mean that the GPU has a lot of idle room since the CPU isn't calling for new frames very often. But I still see 80 percent GPU usage so not sure. Does this happen in single player when disconnected from the internet? At the outset I would try to see if repairing the game didnt work. Which it probably wont but who knows. Also run a malware scan or something.

Likely you've got corrupted Windows system files/program files, etc. Considering that you've changed out hardware (I'm assuming that's what you mean by "install a lot of hardware", you really need to do a fresh install: 1. Backup date 2. Format the drive 3. Reinstall Windows 4. Install latest version of all drivers. Update, I have my computer back to normal now =) Thanks

What REALLY worries me is.. who is selling an 8gb 1666mhz kit for $50 more than a 1333mhz kit? Ehhhh yes and no. There are some applications where 1666 is going to have a slight edge, such as compressing large files and video encoding; even on a system with a slower processor. So if you're regularly encoding or compressing very large files there is a tangible performance benefit. For $50 more, that may be worth it. Though if you're someone who just plays games, then there's really no need for it. On April 29 2012 00:20 Artline wrote: Could you recommend me a trustworthy malware scanner? Don't know what is these days. Thanks for all your help! AVG, Avast, and Avira are all decent; each have their own fans. Though I'm not sure it's possible to say one is definitively, I would say go with Avast and Avira. Prior to running the scan, make sure you clean out all temp directories, and clear the java cache. That will eliminate probably 50% of the malware that's out there. -also, Medrea is a HT finally, yay.
