Please DISCUSS the changes and the impact they will have on gameplay.

People in GSL don't any use ghosts in tvz (veyr rarely at least). Ghosts are to good when terran can split map easily (shakuras, shattered). But obv. the solution is to change those maps. Not make terran unwinable not late game.
Blizz just showed a lack of game understanding.

Is it just me or does it seem like terrans won't be happy unless they are dominating both the other races?

I make Vikings to counter Brood Lords, then Zerg switches to Ultra and I'm f'd up... Looks like David Kim is playing Zerg :F make a maruader or two. you'll have 3/3 by then, to boot. Hahahaha, you have some really strong marauder micro, one or 2 marauders and you will be fine? pls post some replay to teach us
He is sarcastic, because there is nothing to say here, TvZ lategame is just fucked up now..

Other than that, I think it is a good change to otherwise very balanced TvZ. As for the CPM/APM, more options are always welcome, but I think the CPM is not an accurate measurement tool compared to SC2Gears EAPM. The Phoenix change is very interesting and while it helps vs mass Mutas it does require skill to pull off and it is a step in the right direction. It will be interesting how this will rebound in other directions (viable late game stargate play in PvP?? PvT Stargate play??) The MULE change is necessary for ladder, much less for tournaments where they no longer use gold patches (at least not in the GSL)
Have you ever seen a pro using ghosts to snipe zealots?

Overall I'd be okay with the snipe change if fungal growth no longer stopped units from using their special abilities. Ghosts are realistically the only hope to beating infestor/bl late game.
Guess we'll see if we it makes it through ptr Fungal'd units can still fire and use abilities, they just can't move to get in range to do so. The problem is that Ghosts now take dozens of snipes to kill Ultras and Broodlords.

you cant scout ultras until they are there FFS. how often do you guys need to be told? it's the techswitches that will be incredibly hard to deal with. that is just what happens, when you give a race the ability to produce 20 t3units at a time...

I'm just happy for the fact he's saying they want to focus the maps towards competitive play!

Other changes I guess are ok, but now I feel as though Gold bases are actually disadvantageous for Terrans in general because we cannot use our macro mechanic on it while meanwhile the other two races can continue to use their increased worker production to benefit.
I dunno. I think Removing Gold bases completely would make better sense.
Oh but we can. We just need to use all our workers for the gold. We will then want to throw the mules anywhere BUT the gold base, and keep getting maximum benefit.
Gold bases entire mechanic revolve about having few workers. If you got enough spare workers to saturate a blue base you should actually head for blue as it will give you same income but will typically be safer and last longer.

On February 11 2012 03:45 Haustka wrote: so what counters phoenix now, if muta isnt the answer?
Since when where muta's supposed to be a "counter" to phoenixes? Phoenixes cost more and can only attack air. Switching to roaches and rolling over his flying ball of upgraded air units that can only shoot air sounds like an ok way to deal it. Overmaking phoenix will have a similar effect to overmaking vikings. Zerg will now have to time their tech switch, which they have been very good at anyways.
I am fine with zergs not being able to stick on mutas all game. The fleet beacon is pricey on 2 bases and I can't see protoss getting this upgrade until withouth a third base. Mutas will have plent of time in the sun before the range 6 phoenix comes in.
Late game PvP vs colossi could be intresting.

I wish they would just completely do away with Gold minerals. Also, Blizzard, please don't nerf the Ghost into uselessness....please.

When protoss and zergs win terran babies cry.

On February 11 2012 04:04 Ventor wrote: Is it just me or does it seem like terrans won't be happy unless they are dominating both the other races? Agreed. Terrans are too used to abusing the game, so when they get nerfed and start losing at 50% ratio, their heads explode.

I'm a zerg player and actually I find myself worrying that the snipe nerf might be a little to much. It needed a nerf tho and I hope they found the right balance.
Really happy about the Phoenix-buff. I hate watching mass muta in pro-games and I never do it myself for that very reason. Hopefully mass muta will be easier to counter now.

Armor, no. Shield, yes. Snipes will have to kill the shield before chipping at the hp. So a zealot now needs 6 snipes to die, instead of the old 4.

My god 43 pages in less than a day. :O
I hope these notes change at least a bit before they enter the PTR.
I also hope they remove Strike Cannon on thors.

I don't really understand why not every foreing pro terran is switching races. There is no point, before no foreign terran won almost nothing because the race is harder to play, but right now it's probably impossible.

Why strike cannon ? with the energy disappearing i'd understand why and it'd be quite cool.
