Why are so many people defending Naniwa? and Why does this thread deserve more attention than the winners?
Naniwa does not play this game for us, he does not play it for fun, he does want to play nestea, he just wants his money and no one can deny the fact that what he did was disrespectful to Nestea, the Koreans, the Tournament itself, and the viewers who paid for this.
Why should people root for a person who does not care about his fans? If this was Boxer playing he would still be playing 100% in all his games even when he knows he lost. This mentality is what I as a viewer want to root for watching this game. I have to say I dislike Naniwa and how he has no respect towards anyone.

People hatin on Nani are weaksauce. Naniwa hwaiting!

It depends on your perspective or respect I suppose. I respect him for deciding the way he did, and because of his reasons behind it. I don't find it disrespectful at all if he threw a game that was meaningless.

Because of statements from journalists basically saying that he doesn't qualify to be a pro gamer.
Naniwa probably won't gain any popularity by doing this, but he's done nothing wrong. Questioning his right to be a pro gamer is just enormously disrespectful, especially since he's one of the most dedicated gamers in the business.

I see what he's saying, but I don't agree on his actions, he might as well just say GG at the beginning and quit the game, or just tell the judges that he forfeit the game before it even started if that's the case. I mean, would this be acceptable in any other sport? You know you won't make it to the playoffs, so you why bother swinging your bat? Since both him and Nestea already out, so you can't just give the fans a show-match for the love of the sport? I think he would have gained alot more respect if he still gave 110% on a game that "didn't matter".

It's very hard to play at 100% when you know you can't win... And it's not even fun.... So why play a bad game for 15min...... Look at that fucking football game where both of the team go to ro32 if they played 0-0... That was a fucking great match...-_-" (I think is was VM 1978)
And Idra have a really good point http://twitter.com/#!/idrajit/status/146608080761790464
Edit... + Show Spoiler [Naniwa the probe master!] +

aaw poor naniwa, i dont think there should be any issue with this at all!

Easy fix, winner of those "meaningless games" should get $50, issue solved

A difference in that would be that the baseball player has a team of other players who would be relying on him to do well if they wanted to get to the playoffs, or something similar. For NaNiwa, there is nobody sitting on the sidelines going, "I hope he wins so then we can play together in the Grand 2v2 Finals" if there was a reward for winning the game.
Team sports vs Solo sports
I do think that forfeiting the game before hand would have been a little more professional, but neither way should be harmful to him as a player, or anyone around him.

These huge overreactions.

Of all the Naniwa drama out there, I don't think he deserves too much attention for this. It's GSL's fault really for the poor tournament structure if you ask me. You can't expect some guy completely distraught from having just been eliminated from a huge tournament to go put on what's essentially a pointless show match for the crowd.

Regardless of ethics and fan reservation, it was funny to see Naniwa do something that I havn't actually seen in the last year of Sc2 progaming, a cannon rush might have been more entertaining and made at least a 3 minute match out of it, but oh well, you can't expect someone who's morale was destroyed to suddenly come out and play like a grand final is on the line, made me lol

Fuck it. I'll be the epic naniwa supporter. Who other progamer would have the NERVES to 7 probe rush Nestea? No one. not a single fucking person on this godforsaken piece of shit earth, EXCEPT naniwa. Just imagine the amount of pure cajones it takes to do something like that. Naniwa was staring down the barrel of one of the greatest zerg player in the world, and all he did was spit in his face. Seriously, who else would've done something so ballsy? Damn it Naniwa, you're the best!
Naniwa HWAITING!
what do you mean cajones? this was a pure act of cowardice. Obviously after talking all that shit to nestea and basically hyping up the match at the press conference before hand he had alot to lose and chose to be a pussy and bow out instead of fighting.
Its kind of like saying your going to kick someones ass and trash talk them all day and then not show up for the fight.
the move of a coward
i can almost guarantee he would have played it out if his last game was anyone else but nestea.

Do you have any words to say to your team, fans, and Koreans?
I am very sorry for upsetting people like this, I did what I did because of reasons I explained, I dont have anything more to say to fans or my team, what I said should explain it. Koreans need to stop making such a big deal out of everything , it's going ridiculously far to say that I dont deserve to be called a progamer and such for this kind of thing.
Wow Naniwa's got problems... why is he making more controversial statement like
Koreans need to stop making such a big deal out of everything, it's going ridiculously far to say that I dont deserve to be called a progamer and such for this kind of thing.
The kid needs to learn when he's out of place and keep his mouth shut after an apology.

Yeah, because either you probe rush or you play like it was a grand final. There is no middle ground.

A half hearted game is much, much better than disrespecting the game, the tournament and your opponent like that. If you have the impression that fans are generally hostile towards you, Naniwa, you should take that as a hint that maybe it is in fact you who is at fault.
|
I'm curious, how did the commentators reacted when they saw what happened?
|
I think this all comes back to the way you perceive respect. The people who are supporting NaNiwa see no problem with it, and no disrespect. The people who do see an issue with it and start talking about it, do feel that it's disrespectful.
