Go look at the All Star games that were played when GSL hit its 1 year anniversary. Were any of THOSE games serious? Why did you not give shit to players then, and when HuK played "seriously" against NesTea and beat him, Koreans had the nerve to say that HuK was trying too hard...!? Seriously. Hypocritical as fuck. Naniwa, you did the right thing, and I would have honestly been upset to see you half-assing a game, which would somehow even out the so-called rivalry between you and NesTea. Nope, it was pretty much just NesTea, and he did it in a joking manner. The rest were TL bandwagoners. I see this more and more lately, which is people somehow conflating what some random TL poster says with what Koreans say or think. I don't know why it is, but it's fucking getting on my nerves.

Professionals have standards. Or should have. It's not only about the outcome. While he had no chance to get into the playoffs, he still could have try to finish the group stage at 4th place. If he doesn't really care about that, he not only lacks the right attitude, he also is a disgrace to televised matches.

And even then, the "problem" is blown fucking 100x out of proportion, and it's just mongering hate towards naniwa. I want to see him go tear up Code-A even more after this incident. The story is whats creating a joke out of esports, not the action itself. Pretty stupid.

They love them because they perform well, or they are cocky, or reserved, etc. However the reason you love them is the same, they play. Players like TO (NFL) and people who make drama can do so because football is big enough to support people who make drama. eSports is still in the beginning stages of popularity where there aren't exactly sponsors bidding for your market. We have to create the market. We have to show that when games don't matter we can still bring in the numbers. Football and every other big sport do it every season and that's why they're big. Because even when it doesn't matter people watch. That's how well make eSports bigger and better and more popular in the big picture. You haven't given me any examples of Naniwa showing he only cares about money.

Oh god I forgot all about this. This makes the "Naniwa should have disingenuously tried" arguments all the more moronic.

"Koreans need to stop making a big deal out of everything" Statements like this are the problem. You aren't making yourself look any more professional by pretending to be the victim or placing your beliefs above that of an entire culture's. What he actually did was not a big issue. I think reactions were overblown but an interview like this certainly won't make things any better for Naniwa.

They have just played 2 hours of very intense games bringing all their focus and their best strategies to the table, and one of the players has already won it hands down. Do they force the other 3 games to be played regardless of the fact that the outcome is a forgone conclusion, the players are likely tired, and the viewers have already witnessed 2 hours worth of very satisfying play ? So why should GOM have even bothered with the match if Naniwa didn't really feel up to the game ? It would have just been a waste of time for the players and the staff of GOM to deal with. Plus forgetting about the pointless match would have allowed the other games to start earlier, thus not making the day as long for them (affecting their levels of tiredness)

Equally important is his interview I just finished reading. I really liked Naniwa. I understand he was bittered, angry and disappointed in his play. But I just realized he is childish, conceited, spoiled and self-oriented. He is unaware of what he has done. I am sorry because of it. I hope he will find a right way dealing with this situation, overcome it and get the best out of it.

It's true though. Naniwa attracts hate for small things because he's already disliked by many. And he was long before he opened his mouth, people were already shouting shit about his WC3 career when he first won MLG. How many other players don't get shit for throwing games that actually matter? Just look at Stephano or IdrA. Hell even Koreans like HerO just a day ago. Now this time it became larger than usual because of the vocal minority among TL-goers that worship the ground Koreans walk on and think they can do no wrong. Even back just a while ago when every person who hanged on IdrA's every word hated anyone who cheesed they made an exception for the ultra-gosu Koreans like MC when he 4-gated every game.
