Q: What is this thread?
A: General purpose, SC2 discussion thread.
Q: What should I be posting about? A: Basically, anything you want to talk about but aren't sure if it warrants a topic of its own. Heard a rumour you want to share? A new video? A question you are sure is super common but can't find the answer to via searching? A brilliant new idea that you want to vet, to make sure it's really as brilliant as you think it is?
This is the place.
Note: Posting standards will not be as high as if you were to make a new thread, but pointless spam will still not be tolerated. I have seen threads like these work out alright on other sites (for other games) so I figured, why not give it a shot? It's possible there's not really enough content for something like this to exist at this point in time, but no harm then, it will just die on its own.

Sometimes I get distracted by the voice-overs for the units in SC2. I always try to imagine what the person that did the voice IRL looks like. There is a part of me that wishes that the SCV voice actor looks just like the portrait in the game.

I'm gonna repost my post on the previous thread because it was the last post before it was locked and I don't know if people saw it:
Would you guys be interested in a write-up on how the professional SC2 scene could learn/not learn from other professional sports in terms of tournament formats, standartized rankings, team structure, etc? I've been toying with the idea in my mind for a while.

We've all seen barcrafts being done successfully, now my question is, how about movie theatres?
IMAX offers people to rent a whole theatre to themselves for birthday parties for like 50 bucks an hour, has anyone thought of setting a get-together like this up with everyone pitching in money? Maybe just for like a finals day of mlg? Sounds like it could be loads of fun. Just a thought that came to mind.
Would be even better if someone that actually owned a theatre would offer this

we need to have a barcraft las vegas!

I would read the hell out of that.

I was trying to test mineral patch distance from command center. So i had 8 workers mine each patch while the command center was in the air. When I landed, I noticed the time it took for the workers to realize a command center was landed and return the crystals was completely random. I ran several tests to prove it, shown in the short replay below. This randomness made it difficult for me to find the distance of each mineral patch. How can I find this out? Also, why were the scv's taking different times to return the crystal?

Umm its not really a lot of work compare to other things. It works nicely...I mean you get less FPS then on windows system..but i hate windows and i only get 20 less FPS and i get like 60-80 with my 8800gt on low...Which in windows i got 80-100 on low...So i dont know if your willing to sacrifice the fps...But the OS is way better for me

So muta is rising up again in ZvP, how many of you are liking it in comparison to other style? (not only to play/play against but also viewing enjoyment)
Personally I haven't been ladder much, so I can't speak for playing it as zerg but I find it quite a lot of interesting than roache hydra corruptor style.
Also how many of you think warp prism is currently a little bit too much health point as there is nothing from zerg that can shut down the warp prism except muta?

A good overlord spread and decent minimap awareness will basically shut down all drop play.

Does anyone know of any updated maps similar to YABOT?
Something to practice build orders with that has the capacity to restart without having to exit and and start a new game.

I watch a video in which liquid Tyler said that Korean players were celebrities. Celebrities to me are people who are really exposed people. House hold name, pop culture and its hard to now here about them. They are in the papers. Supermarket you can't escape them.
I went on regular news websites and didn't find much info on it. They reported the regular sports, baseball mostly and I was really disheartened. I did see artosis video from when the beta was happening and they had ads everywhere.
So my question isn't really about exports or how big it is. My question is if I was walking around in Seoul and I go to a supermarket or news stand. Would I notice that city is the mecca of SC? Would I be over exposed in celebrity gossip about the latest SC news? I know the culture is very different and publications very but I was just wondering.
Thanks

Man, I feel sry for the protoss player when I'm watching the zerg going mutas, I don't think it's imba, but it looks anoying as hell...
warp prism are harder to kill, but I think this is balanced by the fact that protoss has no good unit to drop... low risk/low reward

What do teams look for in terms of recruiting members? I am currently high-masters w/o a team, and would considering joining one. Is there anything in specific that I should be trying to do other than tournaments?

Blizzard has publically stated that they still think that 1-1-1 is imbalanced in PvT and (judging by the potential HotS units) that mass mutalisks are too good in PvZ. What do protoss (and zerg + terran players) think about an increase in phoenix range from 4 to 5 to combat both of these problems?
In PvZ, mutalisks are supposed to be countered by phoenixes, the only thing is that, well, they aren't. With proper micro by both zergs massing mutalisks and protosses making phoenixes to counter, the mutalisks are generally much higher in count. So the few hits that the muta ball gets on the phoenixes does enough damage to prevent the protoss from gaining any semblance of map control. By buffing phoenix range from 4 to 5 you allow protoss to actually pursue the mutalisks and (with good micro) kill off a few mutalisks and gain some air/map control that making mutalisks give the zerg.
In PvT, protoss players are starting to realize that phoenixes are decent at lifting tanks and picking off banshees, so some players elect to make them to defend against the 1-1-1. The thing is, there's always a huge marine ball underneath the tanks/banshees, so any poking or prodding with your phoenixes results in dead phoenixes very quickly. By increasing phoenix range (and, preferably, the range of their graviton beam spell) by 1, you make it so that protoss can exploit mistakes in the terran's tank/banshee positioning a lot easier.
Thoughts?

Yeah, I play on ubuntu too. Luckily Blizzard games work really well with wine Used to play WC3, WoW and now sc2 on linux. WC3 and WoW were sometimes very troublesome to get running, but it's getting better. No problems at all with sc2 so far.
