Q: What should I be posting about? A: Basically, anything you want to talk about but aren't sure if it warrants a topic of its own. Heard a rumour you want to share? A new video? A question you are sure is super common but can't find the answer to via searching? A brilliant new idea that you want to vet, to make sure it's really as brilliant as you think it is?
This is the place.
Note: Posting standards will not be as high as if you were to make a new thread, but pointless spam will still not be tolerated. I have seen threads like these work out alright on other sites (for other games) so I figured, why not give it a shot? It's possible there's not really enough content for something like this to exist at this point in time, but no harm then, it will just die on its own.
Sometimes I get distracted by the voice-overs for the units in SC2. I always try to imagine what the person that did the voice IRL looks like. There is a part of me that wishes that the SCV voice actor looks just like the portrait in the game.
I'm gonna repost my post on the previous thread because it was the last post before it was locked and I don't know if people saw it:
Would you guys be interested in a write-up on how the professional SC2 scene could learn/not learn from other professional sports in terms of tournament formats, standartized rankings, team structure, etc? I've been toying with the idea in my mind for a while.
We've all seen barcrafts being done successfully, now my question is, how about movie theatres?
IMAX offers people to rent a whole theatre to themselves for birthday parties for like 50 bucks an hour, has anyone thought of setting a get-together like this up with everyone pitching in money? Maybe just for like a finals day of mlg? Sounds like it could be loads of fun. Just a thought that came to mind.
Would be even better if someone that actually owned a theatre would offer this

I was trying to test mineral patch distance from command center. So i had 8 workers mine each patch while the command center was in the air. When I landed, I noticed the time it took for the workers to realize a command center was landed and return the crystals was completely random. I ran several tests to prove it, shown in the short replay below. This randomness made it difficult for me to find the distance of each mineral patch. How can I find this out? Also, why were the scv's taking different times to return the crystal?

Umm its not really a lot of work compare to other things. It works nicely...I mean you get less FPS then on windows system..but i hate windows and i only get 20 less FPS and i get like 60-80 with my 8800gt on low...Which in windows i got 80-100 on low...So i dont know if your willing to sacrifice the fps...But the OS is way better for me
So muta is rising up again in ZvP, how many of you are liking it in comparison to other style? (not only to play/play against but also viewing enjoyment)
Personally I haven't been ladder much, so I can't speak for playing it as zerg but I find it quite a lot of interesting than roache hydra corruptor style.
Also how many of you think warp prism is currently a little bit too much health point as there is nothing from zerg that can shut down the warp prism except muta?

A good overlord spread and decent minimap awareness will basically shut down all drop play.
I watch a video in which liquid Tyler said that Korean players were celebrities. Celebrities to me are people who are really exposed people. House hold name, pop culture and its hard to now here about them. They are in the papers. Supermarket you can't escape them.
I went on regular news websites and didn't find much info on it. They reported the regular sports, baseball mostly and I was really disheartened. I did see artosis video from when the beta was happening and they had ads everywhere.
So my question isn't really about exports or how big it is. My question is if I was walking around in Seoul and I go to a supermarket or news stand. Would I notice that city is the mecca of SC? Would I be over exposed in celebrity gossip about the latest SC news? I know the culture is very different and publications very but I was just wondering.

Man, I feel sry for the protoss player when I'm watching the zerg going mutas, I don't think it's imba, but it looks anoying as hell...
warp prism are harder to kill, but I think this is balanced by the fact that protoss has no good unit to drop... low risk/low reward
I added a new wiki page to the liquipedia 2. I wanted to see how many nerfs in total have been made to each race. Soon I think I will also do a page for buffs.

Blizzard has publically stated that they still think that 1-1-1 is imbalanced in PvT and (judging by the potential HotS units) that mass mutalisks are too good in PvZ. What do protoss (and zerg + terran players) think about an increase in phoenix range from 4 to 5 to combat both of these problems?
In PvZ, mutalisks are supposed to be countered by phoenixes, the only thing is that, well, they aren't. With proper micro by both zergs massing mutalisks and protosses making phoenixes to counter, the mutalisks are generally much higher in count. So the few hits that the muta ball gets on the phoenixes does enough damage to prevent the protoss from gaining any semblance of map control. By buffing phoenix range from 4 to 5 you allow protoss to actually pursue the mutalisks and (with good micro) kill off a few mutalisks and gain some air/map control that making mutalisks give the zerg.
In PvT, protoss players are starting to realize that phoenixes are decent at lifting tanks and picking off banshees, so some players elect to make them to defend against the 1-1-1. The thing is, there's always a huge marine ball underneath the tanks/banshees, so any poking or prodding with your phoenixes results in dead phoenixes very quickly. By increasing phoenix range (and, preferably, the range of their graviton beam spell) by 1, you make it so that protoss can exploit mistakes in the terran's tank/banshee positioning a lot easier.

Yeah, I play on ubuntu too. Luckily Blizzard games work really well with wine Used to play WC3, WoW and now sc2 on linux. WC3 and WoW were sometimes very troublesome to get running, but it's getting better. No problems at all with sc2 so far.
I would rather see some sort of upgrade available for the phoenix to make it more effective against large numbers of mutas instead of getting the tempest. Im very skeptical to the HotS units overall actually, but ill guess in the end it will all be good times.

I hate it because I don't know how to deal with it. I generally win most of my PvZ now except if they go mutas, I flail around for about 10 minutes and lose. Then cry.
Aside from when I fall flat on my face and don't scout them, I never feel like I can move out without base trading. As far as a spectator, I like seeing mutas in contexts where they're used well and/or defended well, but there are a lot of games where the Zerg goes muta and the Protoss doesn't scout it. Watching that is like watching someone fall down a flight of stairs. So I guess it depends on the relative levels of scouting.
muta s are bullshit, even if im doing a stargate opening the zerg just waits until i decide to switch back to a normal gateway army, defends with a minimum of spores and or some hydra, waits until my phoenix dissapears and then switch to 20 or 30 muta instantly, which i couldnt handle because of the lovely threat the hydra gives me (i need instant AoE or im dead) and i need blink because he can fall back.
Its even more ridiculous, because i cannot know what the zerg is up to, will he counter my colossi with corrupter or is he doin the techswitch. And this problem is not new to me, i have a master friend whos playin that crap for almost half a year now against me, i never win!
Strange, whenever Z goes Mutas against me I start smiling and plan how to enjoy the easy win.
I guess that's because I rely on Blinkstalkers in midgame anyway and instantly get Armor upgrades if I see Mutas, that plus one or two Observers and good Cannon placement make it impossible to do any damage with Mutas unless he has like 40 or more, but I just go kill him with +1 or +2 attack and +1 or +2 Armor (Zealots with attack upgrade destroy his lings, Archons with attack upgrade destroy everything, a few Immortals to kill all the spores he as while my Blinkstalkers deal with the Mutas np)
Usually he has a ton of Lings, a good number of Mutas and like 15 Spines at the front, I tend to lose almost nothing due to Forcefields and upgraded Zeals/Archons vs Lings, Guardian Shield and Upgraded Stalkers/Archons vs Mutas.
Oh, I also do the 2 Immortal +1Damage push stolen from Naniwa that inflicts a ton of damage, usually killing the third, a couple of Drones and the first 2 waves of Units Zerg sends. Soon after Zerg cleans up he has Mutas and tries to Harras, only to find 12-18 Blink Stalkers to greet him.

What server are you on? And what league?
Down at silver/gold level on EU I've been seeing virtually nothing but muta play out of most zerg players for at least the past two months or so. Its become pretty typical and its a massive nuisance to deal with as a Protoss; not fun, just frustrating and annoying. I'm not even finding it all that hard to deal with anymore so long as I don't completely screw up, but its still annoying. A lot of my PvZ games now I end up blindly going blink stalkers just because its about a 90% chance there'll be mutas.
On a side note, has any Protoss noticed that Zerg and Terran seem to be getting a bit more twitchy over the prospect of Colossi? I've played a couple of games now where they blindly or semi-blindly (i.e. they see robo fac but no bay) go with a fair number of Corruptors or Vikings. Not complaining because the games proved to be fairly easy wins but its an interesting little phenomenon I've been seeing lately.

Sounds like a good idea.
However I think that would make Phoenix imba/OP.
Perhaps IF we change the range we should also change: - less damage (-1) OR - less rate of fire (-20%)

Agree?
The idea to buff the phoenix might not be bad, but I always thought about giving an aerian attack to the stalker, doing 15 damage but getting +2 more damages at every +1 upgrade.

I am at Diamond on NA and Plat at SEA. I actually lose most of my games for ZvP nowadays because whenever I go muta, I die to a 6 gate timing or so. I don't quite know the timing for the muta switch I suppose
I have a toss account at plat as well and I also have trouble dealing with muta. But I always go chargelot archons anyway, so whenever he harasses me with mutas, I just push out with all my chargelot and archons and usually can kill off most of the mutas and just win there. if not, then I lose.
i thinck a buff to phoenix would be great. but nerfing damage would mean it had 4 damage. thats to low. all protoss air units have low damage visa v vikings. so it would not be imba because they are up now. And on the stalker taught i think they should buff the damage from 10 to 14. and against armored 14+4.(or 12 and + 4.) remember marauders have10 and 18. roaches 16 and +2 upgrades. i think with this would be more balanced.
protoss is suppost to be powerfull and expensive. right now they are just expensive. you can se this on how bad templars and stalkers are against their counterparts in other races. "the amulet," everybody else have this kind of upgrade, and yes it is imba aginst drops but they shuld have 5 less enrgy on the upgrade not remove the whole upgrade. any toughts?
Blizzard should make the emp damage to 50 not 100 because they then would make a little more damage than a fungal. And take away combat shields on marines because they have medivacs. I think this would be a big and good nerf to Terran, that they need!
So your race may not be winning as easily these past couple months. So what? Embrace the challenge. That's why we play video games, after all, right? For the challenge? Try coming up with some new ideas instead of whining to the developer to give you super powerful units and free victories.
Challenge? is a challenge, half of all hitpoints away from most of an army? I do understand your thoughts and I partly agree with it. But manly I am sick of seeing all the cool things of protoss being nerfed, (and they wonder why p is losing to t so easily.) From an e-sports perspective i think its problematic not on a personal gaming perspective.

It seems to be the problem with the warp gate mechanic again. Because protoss get their units at the beginning of the production cycle. Meanwhile zerg's infestors still take 50? seconds to make. If I could warp in an infestor at the beginning w/out pathogen glands I'd probably have more than 75 energy after 50 seconds. I hope that wasn't too confusing.
Hey you know this thread is for any kind of discussion and definitely a sense of anything goes but please don't be too hostile towards the races or people that play them. I'm not acting like I'm a mod or anything but just for the sake of conversation, try to respect each other!
There's always the balance thread if you have fundamental problems with the choices, design or balance of the game. And let's face the truth here: Protoss win rates on ladder have been below both Terran and Zerg for quite some time. Brotoss need to vent a little. I remember what it was like a long time ago for Zerg and still get a taste of it against unfamiliar strategies

No problem!
I'd like to see more Toss pros get a bunch more observers and have them patrol likely medivac or mutalisk paths. That way players can react more quickly to the minimap vision it gives. I think I saw some Protoss do it in the GSL on Bel'shir beach. Think Parting vs Top, he made like 6 observers and many were just giving vision of air paths while a Templar stood watch to feedback any incoming medivacs.
Many times I see ZvP where Z goes mutas, but Protoss has no vision outside their base. And only react when mutaslisks are already sniping something. I think more observers => more vision around base will help a ton in base defense.
From a zerg perspective, muta's are pretty damn good in ZvP, I have played plenty of games where I go ling muta, and the protoss is just going crazy, because I just go back and forth between expo and main. Although with that being said if they open stargate and I don't tech spire pretty quickly, it is almost insta-loss if I don't scout (usually the hide it quite well). As it is now, pheonix are still good v muta, it is just nobody actually micros them, and let's not forget graviton beam is pretty good v small number of hydras.

I think the idea behind lings is that you are supposed to have MORE of them...also, you should never let the enemy get to 3/3, that's pretty rediculous. You've got banelings too, bro.
But yes. for 25 minerals a zergling SHOULD be weaker than a marine or a zealot.
You should never let your opponent get to 3/3? Uh.. yeah sure and you should never let your opponent expand out of his main but it tends to happen -_-;; Of course lings are shredded by 3/3 alternatives. On 0/0 they're shredded too. 2 3/3 cracklings will kill a 3/3 marine and 4 microed 3/3 cracklings will kill a chargelot but in mass both the other sides will win. Zerglings are supposed to outnumber your opponent or be part of the fodder/counter.

Going for a quick robo (Gate-Core-Robo) has been done, but traditionally the defense against 4gate is difficult. Recent changes to the interaction of ramps, vision, and power fields has made a robo opening in PvP more viable. As a general rule, rushing up the tech tree like that only works on maps with a high-ground main (which is all ladder maps except Tal'Darim Altar). Once you have immortals out, you're fairly safe-- and you can transition to colossus production easily.

I think the best approach would be to open a blog. Write about your problems with the game, what race you play and all pertinent information. Then explain that you're hoping to find a coach in gm that is willing to help you for $15 an hour.
I'm sure that a thread would eventually be closed, although I wouldn't worry about a warning. Good luck finding a coach and if you're more interested in a free one there are many people willing if you look hard enough.
Insanely hard to be kiting zealots, emp'ing templars/archons, producing units (even que'd up) and making sure my vikings are not dieing to FF. It's so APM intensive I really wish that blizzard would make it alot easier for non-pros to do. I know that protoss is not just a-moving but honestly that's all it appears like and you're trying to hard. You miss one templar with EMP or you only EMP them once and they get off one storm and your whole army dies with minimal losses to the protoss. And even when you overwhelm their army and you get to their base the chargelots buy more than enough time for them to get collosus or templar out again and you're at a loss for a counter for that currently so you're forced to just trade armies with them until you finnal catch them without money.
Trying to mix in more marines but the mass zealot strategies still overwhelm you with the aoe from storm/collosus. It really feels like if you ever let them get to a 200/200 army comp then you have no chance to win.
Mid-masters. Would really really like some help dealing with protoss death-balls. Tips on ghost control (empin'g the archons and the templars when they don't just bring all the templars up clumped together would be nice. Alot of the time they attack, and leave 2-3 templars behind and just bring them up one at a time)

Mid-masters. Would really really like some help dealing with protoss death-balls. Tips on ghost control (empin'g the archons and the templars when they don't just bring all the templars up clumped together would be nice. Alot of the time they attack, and leave 2-3 templars behind and just bring them up one at a time)
If Protoss makes alot of zealots you should make BF helions, not more marines. Hellions absolutely rape zealots and are easy to micro with their speed, also have alot utility for harass, just like marines.
Spread your army before engagement and position ghosts and hellions a little forward. You should have 1 group for hellions, 1 for MMM, 1 for Vikings, 1 for Ghosts.
Getting cloak for ghosts helps alot and allows you to EMP pre engagement so you have less micro to do later in the fight.
Engage somewhere where you can kite back alot to dodge storms, kite zealots and outrange slow colossi.
*this is my first post, so excuse its suckyness* As a protoss/zerg, I find that muta's do actually very well in harassing, if im a toss and i can't leave my base because there is a flock of 20 muta's waiting to come in, the zerg can do anything that the zerg may desire, such as....6 bases.. I have been testing with it alot in dia, and I know its only dia, but I find it effective, but I do need to find a way to transition from mutas into a big engagement unit. Should I start my hive when i start harassing and transition into brood lords? also, as a toss, would getting pheonix to stop mutas work and then they can also snipe bl? Just a thought, so be gentle...
why when baneling and broodlord are morphing do they automatically get full health when being attacked but when protoss units are being warped in they dont?

Because the banelings and broodlords are morphed out of existing units that may not have full hp, whereas warpgate units are just warped in. Does this also apply for Overlord->Overseer?

I get that scenario but what if the unit thats morphing is full hp, and yes it does happen for overlord -> overseer, some players use it in zvz as a trick to get away from queens

Not exactly the right forum, you want strategy. However...
Reactive Phoenix as a Protoss just doesn't work. You just can't produce Phoenixes fast enough. If you've already gone Stargate it has possibilities, but I tried it myself the other night and I wasn't happy with the result. Other, better, players may have more luck though.
The general rule for fighting off mutalisks is to go mass gateway using templar tech. Blink Stalkers/High Templars/Archons whilst mineral dumping into Zealots for the almost inevitable mass ling support (mineral dumping against the gas drain of muta production).
yo me new to the forums lol can anyone gimme a tour somehow on how to join tournys and connect to streams? inboxes would be nice but post here if u want.

Does anyone know of any good fpvod casting channels on youtube? A lot of the streaming it is just random nonsense not much actual explaining of why they are doing what they are doing. I know there is that one that guy banned from tl (who we are apparently not allowed to support for whatever stupid reason), anyone else?
Some streamers rather notably self-cast their games. If you're interested in Terran streaming, I'd recommend Trump-- he's one of the featured Other streams here on TL. Although he's been playing mostly Skyrim this week, I've always found him to be entertaining because he constantly talks about what he's doing and how he's thinking. I am sadly unfamiliar with Zerg and Protoss streamers but I'm sure Trump has his counterparts in the other races.

Has anyone mentioned how the 2 seeds for GSL code S are decided? With the new format, we have 8 from top 8 code S 10 from up and downs 12 from top 12 code A.
If we include the 1 spot from MLG, then where does that last seed go to? Did anyone make an announcement on this?

None of us know right now. I am sure GOM will announce the new system in full detail once GSL November ends, since that is when the seeds will come into play for next year.
I just watched the movie Freerunner and noticed an amazing resemblance between one of the characters "Freebo" and Qxc. I found it pretty awesome since Qxc is known for practicing parcour/freerunning as well. + Show Spoiler +

People are put into Up/Downs rather than directly into Code S.

hey guys i have a weird feeling. i'm diamond and i don't play much and i don't feel that i improve with practice. but lately i get matched mostly against masters. but today i played about 10 games, and won 9 of them easily, and all my opponents were masters (and not from the bottom of their respective divisions surprisingly). and i didn't feel that i got better compared to what i was, i somehow felt that other people got worse =) did somebody have such feeling? is it my subjective perception or did the ladder really degenerate a little ?

It's hilariously Terran favored.
There was one map I saw where it was an asymmetrical 2 player map with a single island expansion with a neutral creep tumor in the middle. It was an interesting idea because it prevents a Terran from flying over, MULEing insanely then picking up and getting out once the opponent can counter it, you can't take it until you have medivacs and then have to wait a minute, so any race could take it just as easily. It wasn't a competitive map or anything, just an interesting idea that could be used to somewhat balance island expansions.
can someone tell me where the Dreamhack streams are? I watched it yesterday with day9 and mr bitter, but i don't know whos casting it today or where to find it. thanks.

Wow man, actualy thats a pretty neat idea, i think some mapmakers would love to experiment with that ^^
Intro: I have entirely avoided TL based discussions regarding anything SC2 related because I think it is extremely difficult to have meaningful discussion over the interwebz without time-heavy tenacity and dedication, and saintlike patience and compassion.
That being said I had this idea.
Background: Since release I've been thinking about the warp gate mechanic, and how it makes no sense to me. I know this has been discussed to death, but basically the problem I have with its design is that there is no reason not to get it. You can produce units faster, and warp them in wherever you want to. It's basically a no-brainer upgrade, and in 99% of matches is the first 50 gas spent for P. I have no problem with warp gate, and I think we should leave it as is. So here's my idea:
Idea: Create another cybercore upgrade for gateways. For the sake of argument let's say this upgrade is identical to the warp gate upgrade in both cost and time. The upgrade reads like this: "Units produced from gateways require half of their production time." Okay so it's not worded that great. But basically it's saying that units could be produced faster from gateways than warp gates, but only after this upgrade has completed. In the past when reducing build times out of gateways has been suggested (and patched, then nerfed), people would complain that it makes early gateway pushes way too strong. The beauty of making it into an upgrade is that you can adjust it for timings to prevent undefendable gateway pushes, while still providing a useful alternative for the warp gate tech path. This option gives players more choice during all parts of the game, and has the potential to create dynamic and skilled play. Now a player has an actual choice to make regarding their first 50 gas, a choice that impacts the flow of the game from the get-go. Later in the game, once players get both of the upgrades, they can make choices about which gateways they want to keep as gateways, and which they want to have has warp gates; for example if a player wants to harass with some warp-ins while making sure they can produce a follow-up army at home (for less time, and with less mouse clicks since they don't have to "look" back at their base to macro), they have that option. Also players could switch their warp gates back when they need to defend to produce units more quickly at home with defenders advantage. I'm sure there are many other cool reasons to have this option that have discussed elsewhere with more depth, so I don't need to beat it to death. Suffice it to say that there is some potential to the idea.
tldr; What if we had another cybernetics core upgrade in HotS that decreased build time for gateway units as long as they are produced from gateways and not warp gates?
Did anyone notice after a certain patch (1.3.x I believe) the text in the chat box changes its vertical position when you type a character which exceeds the baseline towards the bottom, like the 'g':
Kinda annoys me, does anyone know a fix? Perhaps somehow changing the font by adjusting the MPQ until Blizzard finally notices it and fixes it. It's been quite a while, but I imagined it was so obvious it would be fixed in the next patch after it was introduced but it still hasn't ^_^
To be honest I did not bother emailing Support about such a minor issue, but I guess it won't hurt so I will do that as well.

Ok, i understand where you're coming from. You want WG to be a choice with pros and cons, but you don't seem to understad why the WG research exists.
First of all you can't warp units anywhere you want, but in the pylon or warp prism field. Secondly, WG research exists to delay warping tech long enaugh, to prevent very early warping to enemy base that wouldn't be defendable. There is no problem with the design in that sense, you just didn't get why the upgrade was there. It isn't supposed to be a choice, just like making Queens isn't a choice for zerg.
There is no unstoppable warpgate push discovered yet, but if your suggestion of another upgrade would be implemented - there would be. Massing units with super fast gateways and morphing them to warpgates when pushing.
In current state of the game, Protoss needs warpgates to compete with zerg and bio terran mobility and terran defensive/offensive capabilities.

Sorry if I wasn't specific enough here, clearly you can't warp in wherever you want, I was using hyperbole.

Not 100% sure what you're trying to say here.
It isn't supposed to be a choice, just like making Queens isn't a choice for zerg.
This is inaccurate, IMO. Queens are the economy based macro mechanic for zerg. The proper comparison is Queen-Orbital-Chrono. Gateways have nothing to do with that.
There is no unstoppable warpgate push discovered yet, but if your suggestion of another upgrade would be implemented - there would be. Massing units with super fast gateways and morphing them to warpgates when pushing.
This is the best argument I've heard so far. Yes it would change push timings, and yes it would probably need some adjusting, but in response it's also really fucking cool. To use it correctly takes thought and flexibility. It allows players to macro in new and interesting ways. And it really would not change things that much. Units would produce (a little) faster, but they still need to be walked over to the fight. And as another slight disadvantage it also temporarily breaks up the death ball. Players who make gateways at their thirds to block the ramp (like on metal and shattered) could allow the units to be created there to defend from counter attacks (or drops, or mutas, etc.). This way you have units spread out across the map and not in the death ball, at least temporarily.
In current state of the game, Protoss needs warpgates to compete with zerg and bio terran mobility and terran defensive/offensive capabilities.
I don't think a foreign Terran will ever win a major tournament again. EDIT: Possibly Major. Maybe. edit2: I should have said that this is because of a seemingly gigantic difference in skill that still exists between Korean and foreign Terrans.

Why does Zerg use Mass Roach instead of Roach/Hydra vs Protoss? I feel the latter should be superior in many ways, yet I even watch pros go for the former composition.

Roaches are simply more cost-efficient, more mobile against protoss deathballs than slow and expensive Hydras

Kidding me? Twitch.tv is laggy as hell, every single stream! Never have I watched an own3d stream with lag, dunno why but one service is crap and the other is not. Also MLG/gomtv and such is also lagless lol.
Also does anyone else think its silly they kill the entire NA SC2 server for a whole day to patch WoW? I feel that they should work that out, thats pretty retarded to me.
So I finally got my hands on a Korean version of Starcraft. And holy North America ladder is like 1-2 league behind Korea ladder. I am a high master player in NA but only low diamond on the Korean server. Their strategy is much more micro intensive and much more harass base. They will not let you sit back and macro and if there is a timing they can punish you for they will take advantage of it. Any midmaster on the Korean server can easily be GM in North America. I wonder how the Euro server compares to NA?
I dunno if this is the place to ask, but it's a question for Jinro
Many months ago, we saw something unique from zerg players in GSL, but it only happened for about a week, and I want to know why.
Late game ZvP and ZvT, zerg would be on many bases, as would their opponent. They would have brood lords + infestors, and the opponents would have void rays or ghosts, etc.
The strategy zerg used, was to keep a giant cloud of like speed 50 overlords with their army. How can ghosts snipe when there are 50 overlords covering them? They would all be dropping creep as well, so roaches and lings and banes under the overlord ball would get an instant speed boost when pushing and stuff.
I don't see how a terran is supposed to deal with that. They can't focus fire BL with ghosts or vikings and overlords have 200 hp for a measly 100 minerals, easily worth it later game ZvX to tank.
The only counter I saw to this was storm, as it kills overlords in 10 seconds.
In accordance with the Team Liquid rules i have not created a new post. This is simply to acknowledge that my previous post, which has been locked, was incorrect.
I appologize to anyone who may have thought Leenock was a bonjwa or an octopus as a result of this post. It has come to my attention that Leenock is not an octopus and is not a bonjwa. A bonjwa is someone who has been a good player for a year, and only MVP is a person who can qualify and also Nestea. This is because MC is not good anymore and MMA has not been good for a year and Leenock has not been good for a year.

Why has this died off?
Hahaha this is awesome I would love to see this used. Another dead zerg tactic is making the lair at the natural and hiding the spire.

Hi, I was wondering if maybe someone here could help me out!
I'm a girl and I know NOTHING about Starcraft. My new boyfriend is really interested in it and I want to try and impress him with knowing general stuff about it! I've seen him go on the site a bunch of times and thought it might be useful. Is there anyone here who could sort of just give me a general idea about it and share any important information one might need to know?

What is the ideal number of probes to cut at for a one base 3 gate robo timing? Should I continually produce probes if I'm planning on expanding behind it?
If you plan on expanding I wouldn't cut probes. That will put you way ahead if your attack does good damage. @Alpina: I don't seem to have that problem at all :/
Question. What does the protoss shield upgrade actually do? I don't see an increase in shield energy or anything when I get it. If I only have 1 forge up, is it better to get the shield than the armor upgrade? Why or why not? Is it worth upgrading both armor and shield instead of attack and armor/shield?
Another question. Why do pros only put up one or two turrents/cannons/spores in their base when the opponent is doing a lot of drop play or muta harass? And I think a better question is, why do a lot of pros run their drop ships or mutas away when they could easily move around the single one or even take it out?

That helps, but what if I'm planning on being on one base for an extended period of time? Should I cut, and with how many probes?
Why doesn't blizzard add a feature in the replay manager to be shown the winner of each replay? What I mean is that I want to check the replays of the games I lost, but I have no idea which ones to choose. wtf blizz
Just thought of something while explaining the Phoenix to a friend.
The phoenix's ion cannon shoots 2 projectiles and it says it does 5 damage (+5 to light) x2, are these two separate instances of damage? Are they both mitigated separately by armor?
For example, a phoenix is attacking a non-light unit with 1 armor, does it do 5-1 + 5-1 damage, or just 10-1?

Hey everyone, I recently picked up SC2 as my new game of choice "I couldn't pass it up for 30 bucks the other weekend". I am absolutely terrible but I am learning a lot! I have always wanted to make gaming vids, so here is my first stab at hopefully many more to come.
In this video, I am playing my final placement video for league play. I was obliterated my previous 3 games, so I decided to attempt a "cheese". I forgot to build a forge, so I was unable to warp-in cannons @ their base. Fortunetly for me, the opponent made very many mistakes and put me ahead
This was probably my 10th match ever played, I know I am horrible
Im watching Leenock vs Clide GSL Open Season 3. I forgot how T favoured the TvZ maps like Jungle Basin and Lost Temple, even old school Shakuras had that easily siegable Back alley + the still siegable front cliff to the natural.
Does anyone else think that maybe the "Terran problem" started because the map's were T favoured then persisted because there were more Korean Terrans to learn from?
I think part of it may have been the format of Code S, which for a long time had very limited turnover, and the fact that for a long time, people didn't know how to defend against early rushes. Also, there were a lot of balance changes in addition to map changes. Although a shorter map may favor 2rax, it also favors 7RR and other rush builds.
so, i always wondered for which friends (non real-id) battle.net shows when they were last online. for example, it says 55 minutes ago for empire.kas, but for other persons it doesnt say anything.
I purchased a US copy of starcraft 2 but then I had to move to China. I can't play on the NA servers because it's too laggy. I want to play on the Taiwan server (China and Korea servers are complicated) but I'm not sure how.
I didn't know whether I should create a new thread or not because there's a lot of discussion over the past year but not a lot recently. (The previous thread was created a year ago)

i feel like mutas have been way too strong versus protoss since the end of october, if we cant figure out a solid way to deal with the mutalisk strategies i wish blizzard would implement splash damage onto phoenixs and keep the carrier and try to fix it instead of adding the tempest, because i cant see t3 tech being an appropriate response for mutalisk balls and tech switches...
I dunno, I do think mutas are too good but I think that would break TvZ in terrans favour.... Or at the very least pretty much kill the entire way IdrA et al play ZvT.
Who is CSNTC? He's ranked #2 on EU Grandmaster with a 166-33 winratio. I don't know who he is, but judging by his record I would presume he is a pro player smurfing on another account(as opposed to just a highly ranked ladder player. They usually have a winrate closer to 50-50, even if their GM). I was quite impressed with his winrate, but I don't know who he is. Is there anyone who does?

At a big even like MLG or NASL, when a player loses a game (not even a match, just between every game), an official goes into the booth of the loser. What does he give the player?

Who thinks the next game blizzard is working on will be an amazing seller. And what do people think of the new units coming out for the next sc2 and also that carriers have been removed from the game Good or Bad move? To me i think the choice to take carriers out was a bad move because they were amazing in Brood War i want someone elses opinion into the fact that Blizzard decdided to take them out. But on an other note what do people think of what Heart of the swarm will be like?.
I also want to say do you think Idra could of made it farther in NASL or was it a mistake that he gg'd so early against Puma. Or do you think he did it because he wanted Idra to move on so EG would have a guaranteed player from the team in the finals.

I'm almost inclined to agree with him. MVP is the best player, but Hero "should" be the best protoss player. His issues wtih nerves are pretty obvious. If you watch his stream and alot of his tournament games where he's on point, he makes protoss look absolutely abusive
But pulling the GSL finalists as your example for the best player in the world is absurd, certainly more then saying Hero is the best.
Russano i have to disagree with you that MVP is best player. The reason i disagree is because Hero and HuK are both so much better Protoss players reason i say that is because huk has been placing high in so many events lately and has been showing people why he is one of the best players in the world.
And also another reason why i say i disagree with MVP being the best is because of some of games i have seen him play. HuK and Hero have some really consistent games.
I would Definately say that Hero is in the list of top Protoss players in the if not #1 because of his consistent plays and also the matches he had against EG.Puma yesterdat in NASL

You are out of your mind if you consider HuK and HerO more consistent than Mvp.
Since August he's made 3 consecutive Code S semi-finals, 2 finals(where he won one of them) and he won Blizzcon.
I agree with you that HuK is consistent, but just not at the same level as Mvp. He's a solid Code S player, but I don't think he will ever win 3 GSLs.

Lol, 4th at providence, winning WCG korea, winning MLG a while ago. Even further back in the year. When he dropped from code S by having a bad month , he went straight to code A finals and right back into code S. He does exceedingly well in everything enters. If you ask ANYONE the question; whose the most consistent player? Every single person should be picking MVP. Nerd is the definition of consistency, and pretty obviously the best player in the world, based off of pretty much any standard.
and this is coming from a protoss player and major hero/huk fanboy.
Yes i agree with you. I just pulled whatever i could remember from the last couple of months. Just forgot about WCG and Providence ^^
The only player who has been consistently at the top is Mvp. One could argue that NesTea is as consistent(since he's basically won every GSL where he wasn't knocked out by Mvp) but he seems to be slacking off a bit lately. It's probably too soon to judge though, but he didn't do as well as most people expected in both Providence and GSL RO16. We'll see after Code A tomorrow.

No Protoss player compares to Mvp in consistency.
I know you were, I was just adding to your list to prove the point. I'm pretty sure NesTea is most peoples second choice, and I agree. But the lack of really any results outside of the GSL (not even the GSTL) really seems to hurt his credentials.
Hero's consistency is hurt by his nerves, even though his skillcap seems to be higher then any player I've seen of every race. Huk also suffers from these bizarre jet lag infused tournament showings where he just sorta loses to players not as good as him, and he makes an early exit, while at other times he just makes an MLG look easy.
But neither of these two are "really" what you could describe as consistent.
Yes, i did say HuK is more consistent because he has been placing top 5 in almost every MLG he did exceptionally well in DreamHack he also won two of the 6 MLG events. And he has a bad Placing at NASL which everyone knows and yes i did say hero is more consistent then MVP. Hero is by far one of the best protoss players in the world if not the best.
I can say this because he has been placing top in almost every single NASL along with Puma and Hero could of taken NASL Finals away from Puma if not for nerves like Russano said. But every player has a bad day or bad match and you cant blame them for doing bad no player is going to win every tournament.
@Banshee Okay MVP is consistent but HuK has beat almost every single korean player in so many tournaments he has entered he won DreamHack 2011 Spring, 2x MLG Winner, and i dont know which other events he has won but he has lots of titles under his belt.
@Keyboard Warrior Idra has kinda changed his play style more from macro play in a aggrestion build has he has been going roach, infestor, muta alot lately and that is what costed him at NASL against Puma is the aggrestion switch.

after seeing him play in the NASL yesterday I can't help but notice that he did look spectacularly good. + Show Spoiler +
especially in the game on crevasse (game 4 i think) in which he lost.
He has a lot of patience and a great game sense.
however, I have learned to not judge how good a player is by their stream. I have become a fan of far too many players because I saw them crush some random guy on the ladder in some funny way or because they won 10 games in a row.
Puma did exceptionally well in NASL but one thing i noticed is Hero could of played so much better not saying he did bad but i know that hero can beat Puma. I think nerves got to him a bit so he lost momentum going into the last couple games.
And i never judge pro players by their streams i judge them by their performance in events and also how mannered they are like HuK is amazing and is good mannered and has beaten almost every top korean in the world. So HuK for sure is my favourite player along with Hero and Puma and also Idra just because his play style is amazing.

And would you argue that Mvp hasn't beaten pretty much every single Korean player he meets? The guy is 108-48 in Korean TLPD dude.
HuK is just consistently mediocre(compared to a guy like Mvp). He is able beat pretty much anyone on a good day, but I would never consider him a favorite versus one of the top Koreans. He has also bombed out of some events way quicker than he should(like losing in the group stage of Assembly Summer).
It's a pretty stupid argument. Mvp is simply a better and more consistent player than HuK. I think that basically anyone who follows all the major events will agree with me. If you want to continue the discussion, feel free to PM me.

If anything, Huk is very inconsistent. Sure he won MLG, but he drops out of every other tournament like near the beginning to random players. His win rates aren't that strong either.
My buddy is ranked 11 on NA in Masters with 920 points and a record of 226 -214. I bet him that he wouldn't make master league on the KR ladder because the comp is much better in Korea. Has any other upper master level players tried playing on the Korean ladder and did you make it past diamond?

I was grandmaster level on the NA server season 2, high masters on the server season 3/4 (I stopped playing on the server which you'll find out in a second). I started the korean ladder in season 3 the day grandmaster became available to NA. I had to work all day so didn't get to ladder and missed GM. So played on korea and I got masters easily. I am mid-high masters on the server.
I don't know how high 920 points on NA ladder is now of days but if he's high masters on the NA ladder he should be able to get high diamond/low masters on korea. It really depends on how much latency he has and how much it affects him (me personally I get none).
Odds are though he will be stuck in diamond for a bit as I know a friend of mine who was about the same point range last season can't hit masters on korea as of yet.

Yah, one of my roommates plays is mid-master on the Korean server, and the level of competition is around slightly less than 1 league higher.
Why don't players pre-bane burrow expos instead of burrowing a ling to block? Seems like killing scvs > delaying an expo. Plus no one scans their own expo unless it's blocked?
It's just one of those things. Why, late game, do Zergs not get both drops and Nydus worms like mad? You have the gas and you could have swarm taktiks by dropping to establish and using a nydus to bring everybody in.
There's a lot of cute things that you can do in SC2. We don't see all of them nearly enough ^_^. Burrowing banelings in gold mineral lines are a personal favorite but one hinderence is a Terran will often build missile turrets as he's expanding.. revealing the banelings before the scvs get there.
So. This seems like a good spot. Since it's definitely not worth a thread. I understand the matchmaking system is kind of wonky at times. But.
Why am I getting put against platinum players when I'm Silver? And why is it an even match? Is it likely my MMR is just going up since I'm mostly winning? Or is it distinctly possible Battlenet is just empty at the moment? :S

I'm not sure if maybe you mixed it up with this, but on Black Friday Sc2 NA was $30. Black Friday is the day after the last Thursday of November (worded this way because sometimes it falls on Dec 1st I think). Maybe that's what you were thinking of?

Should probably just wait until HotS to come out, there might be a bundle deal.
New topic: This sounds crass, but it's not IMBA-whining
Blizzard botched the dynamics of warp tech and nydus IMO.
I still don't understand why Blizz has designed nydus to be "all-in" oriented; 200/200, fast spawn time, and low health is all designed for inception into an enemy's base. I'd much prefer the BW-style of having nydus worms as a mean to defend against those pesky stim rine drops or randomly hidden pylons that pick off distant expos (especially if the opponent is going air for slow hydras). I've constantly experimented with nydus worms but any competent player will simply pull workers and EZ snipe the worm before it even finishes (i'd have to rely on the opponent not sucking for a nydus to be successful, especially against P due to warp ins)
Also for warp tech, I think it's undeniable that warp tech is the strongest asset to P. However, I was considering how it might change the dynamics if warp in time was extended in exchange for shorter cool down on gateways. IMO, this doesn't have any effect on spawning units, it only deters cheesey pushes or rely too heavily on surprise warp ins (it'd give more of an advantage to the defender against the aggressive unit warper).
I am a noob (started last month) siege tank do 50 dmg vs armoured units zealot life=100 shield=50 armoured unit so I cant understand why siege tank kill a zealot in 5 hits instead of 3

Zealots are not considered armoured, they are light, so tanks do 35 damage to them instead of 50.
Why can't banelings detonate inside overlords. could be a new design to fill up a hole left by the scourge. put 4 banes in an overlord... suicide it into a ball of air units.
Click drop and click the medivac. That will make it drop while moving. Yes, you can do this to as many medivacs as you can.
SaddestPanda that's a cute idea but I have a feeling since they've already patched against viking flowers, muta stacking and all that they wouldn't do something like that..
Why is the custom games setup on sc2 battle net sooo bad? It is impossible to setup games and play with people in the maps you want unless you invite them. They really ought to change that but I think it might be a conspiracy to get more people playing ladder matches instead... the ladder system is pretty good though.
@WeddingEpisode... the only benefit is when the medivac is spawned it has extra energy, but once it maxes out the benefit is gone. Basically it's a useless upgrade along with the thor 250 mm cannon and seeker missiles.

But then there are other units in the game, like infestors, where you don't want to build them until you get the pathogen glands half way done. I agree if you let them max out their energy, you'd lose the benefits of the upgrade, but new units will have that much more of an edge. Besides, I feel that the energy upgrades are most useful on spellcasters (infestor, ghost, etc).

Is there any place i can download the NA client from an EU mirror, the Blizzard one is taking ages. Or is it possible to just play on the NA server by screwing around with the files?
Wuts up guys a bnuch of us have a show reviewing alot of geeky stuff Here one of our new segments we discuss keyboards. Abunch of us play sc2 just wanna share this with you guys.

Well yes, it is a challenge, just like fungal growth on bio. Atleast EMP only removes the shields, try dealing with multiple fungals across an entire bio army, no retreat for them.
This is probably more related to the TL site, but does anyone know or remember the teamliquid article with the community themed graphics? I remember it was about the proleague or something - I couldn't find it looking through the featured or community news.
You know what a really cool patch change would be?
To be able to drag-box-select multiple units (when you got them selected) in this big center window down in your command bar. You know what I mean?
Like, you selected 10 units, and they are shown down center in this box. There you can click with your mouse and box as many units as you want (apparently not more than 24). But it would kinda help splitting up your big clusters of units.
Dont know if thats good or not, but would find that quite nice
I was just wondering why every pro toss has been doing FFE builds as of recent. HerO did it, Huk did it, and Naniwa did it yesterday, even on Dual Site...., and all of whom were destroyed time and time again Are there no viable builds now?

I actually have no idea what you are talking about..

So, normally, you have to shift deselect units down in the center command box (the one with the unit silhouettes the shows you how many you have selected). He thinks it would be cool if you could also box units inside that window, so you can do something like easily select half of the units.
God damn, is getting promoted to masters tough or what? I was playing mid-masters players today (rank 1 diamond) and won 6 games in a row. Now I just lost 4 in a row and my mmr is back to the diamond league... so frustrating. I've been top 8 diamond for MONTHS now and still cannot get that stupid promotion.

I believe that right now the ladder is locked, which may contribute to your difficulties in getting promoted.
How do people who have multiple accounts for different servers do it? I bought two copies of SC2, both were NA. I got one NA switched to EU. I can only play the one which I most recently installed. I'm talking about installing the whole game because I can't seem to have both server clients at once. Blizzard even put both accounts on one battlenet account with one email address. I've been fucking around with Blizzard for over a week trying to get shit straight and I'm curious how other people are doing it?

Well I knew that I just meant in general. I've beaten plenty of masters players, but it's almost like there's an invisible "line" that I haven't crossed yet to get into the league.

If you have 2 harddrives you can install the EU client on one and the NA on the other. If you don't have 2, you can create a partition and it will work in the same way. That's what I did.

Hey, it's my first post on TL, been lurking for a while now, watching streams and reading random stuff...
Anyway here is the reason for this post: I'm a very, very casual bronze player. Today I noticed that there is a player in my division with approximately 1200 wins. I should mention that he is in the top 8 but not the number one player of the division. To put things in perspective, the second highest win number in the division is 138.
I checked his profile and here's what I saw under match history (the name is blurred, it seemed somehow appropriate):
The matches are played in very rapid succession, one or two minutes between each, and rarely do they last more than that. From what I saw, probe production is optional. Some of the opponents seem to behave in the same fashion. I scrolled down a bit and found one that had lasted for what must have been 16 seriously epic minutes. One last thing I noticed, a couple of matches have been played every hour for the last 22 hours...
This looks like a bot of some sort, I suppose this is pretty common, but being a noobie and all I really have no idea...
I'd be grateful if someone could shed some light on this and/or tell me what it is I'm looking at ^_^

Hello everyone, I have a question regarding getting a Taiwan acount, I already have the taiwanese client, but I dont know how to purchase an acount, can some one plz point me in the right direction or perhaps getting me a link so I can buy one asap, thank you for your time :D
Even though I'm sure most people will not see this, how many master Terran's feel that going into a macro game Vs Protoss is a fair match up?
My personal opinion is that until your micro gets very very good you will be at a disadvantage vs toss in late game but just wondering how many master Terran's feel the same way or I would still want to hear from you if you feel it's an even match and if so why.
I want to state that I don't feel it's necessarily an imbalanced match up, I personally feel I have to end the game rather quick though to stand a chance. For the record I am master league Terran and I do win vs toss quite a bit but again I try to end the game rather early.
